Mayo negotiations + OC interviews next week

The entire offense was terrible this season.. including the coaching staff.... so puzzling what the jets see in Caley!

this is why 2022 has been deemed one of BBs worst coaching seasons.. I was reading currans piece on rumors of Judge and Patricia allegedly having a gripe with Jones.. my thoughts were ok... 2 failed head coaches, were brought back in the organization... accepted roles they had no business in... regressed a promising QB and the entire offense..

So I'm trying to Find what leverage they have... if any!..
FOB.

BOB will be a popular hire because he's not Matt Patricia but he's another Bill bobo who Alabama fans can't wait to run out of town, hasn't proven anything offensively with a mediocre quarterback and it's sticking to an offensive scheme that has proven nothing without Brady.

I would rather a clean break and get someone from the Shanahan/McVay tree who you see plug and play average quarterbacks and win games and look competent but we know that will never happen, the offensive coordinator search is just really Bill hiring another one of his buddies but at least this one is actually a proven offensive coach.

Caley was the TE coach, and the TEs were disappointing. No idea why anyone would want Caley.
He’s the next guy up in the system, so any team considering this offense will interview him. It’s like how people want to interview Zac Robinson even though he has no real OC-worthy credentials other than being the next guy up under McVay.

This is only the second year of position coaches being freely able to interview for coordinator jobs, so it’s going to look different than prior years. A team that’s truly open to any offensive system should interview somebody from each major system.

Why do the fans want him out of town? The offense was pretty good at Alabama the past year. I get BOB isnt a likable guy but he usually gets results.

True, I made this point last week... however, we have to assume the assistant coaches were more "patsied" than the players or fans.
An asst. like Caley was probably furious with the system, play-calls, QB controversy, etc... because it made him look bad by association.
That's probably why he wants to bolt while he can - but we just don't know what he can do. He was also highly regarded enough last year when JMD left for the Pats to block his outside interviews. I'd just hate to lose all consistency with a brand new OC with a new system.

With the amount of talent running through the Alabama they should be in national championship every year. I don’t think that’s hyperbole at all

On BOB - I really don’t think he is what is needed. He’s done fine as OC but he’s always had a ton of talent to work with. Brady, Watson , Alabama… and none if those offenses were elite or explosive.

Nothing against the guy but was really hoping for someone to transform this offense not just someone who will be “fine”

Not always the offense's fault, they lost a game where they scored 49 points and another with 31. Maybe they should ride the D coordinator out of town.
They’re way ahead of you! It was just announced on Friday that the DC is leaving Alabama to go to Ole Miss.

95% of the time. But I am sure Kraft stomps his foot when BB is being stubborn and it is effecting the bottom line.
For Instance… This latest press release (no way BB would have done that) That was forced down his throat
The Jimmy G saga
When BB got caught in spygate and Kraft called him a schmuck
I don't think it's only about the bottom line. Kraft's a fan and wants to win.

I don't follow Alabama closely, but I believe the complaint they have is that O'Brien underutilized their Heisman-caliber QB's skillset.

Bill O'Brien's offensive schemes took Brian Hoyer and Brock Osweiler to the playoffs in back-to-back-seasons...

Most of the top scoring offenses in Patriot history were under BOB, except for 2007.

Mac fought through adversity this year and looked better at the end. Even though the season was a disappointment, I would be surprised if Mac does not feel good about himself (which is important with his overly emotional personality type). I do not think it was a wasted year at all, I think Mac grew up a lot and is on an upswing going into 2023, unlike coming into 2022.

I wonder if Mac agrees with this...

It was definitely a wasted year for a pretty good defense.

I also seem to recall people here excited about his upswing coming from 2021 into '22...

I was pretty disappointed in Mac's ability to stay calm in the pocket and scan the field.

That being said, this is the skill that QBs sometimes gain with experience.

The 3rd year should be the biggest jump, bigger than 2nd.

He has a ring, just not as a head coach you forget he was here? He played a part in bradys early development.. not saying he is responsible for Brady being the GOAT. But the guys respected league wide.. so ya I get your point! I'm just recognizing, and putting emphasis on how important coaching is to a young player! How'd this season look for coaching for us?
I am not saying he's not a good coach. He's an excellent coach. He may go down as one of the all time greats, 100%. All I am suggesting is let's see how his career plays out. I think there's a real good chance he's indeed one of the premier coaches in the NFL.

As far as his ring goes, there's plenty of folks here who want to discount Bill's two rings he earned with the Giants, as he wasn't head coach. Now, I think that's sheer lunacy, but it still happens.

100% agreement on what good coaching did for the Giants vs chitty coaching for the Pats.

F UCK Mike Greenbarf. He's a Jete lover & a New England hater, and not just of Belichick either.
True, but….is he wrong on this one? I mean, look at Daniel Jones this year vs. Mac Jones this year.

Last year everyone though DJ was washed up and a bust, while Mac was a promising rookie find.

This year DJ is playing well and a legit starter while Mac (in some circles) is about to be run out of town.

Common denominator:

Joe Judge (plus the addition of Matt Patricia and look at the Lions now).

Coaching does matter.

One problem with all this is that Judge was indeed forced to keep on remnants of the old offensive coordinating team.

The Giants GM really submarined him.

Please tell us that you're not going to start defending Judge Joey's catastrophic failure of a tenure as the Exit-16Ws' HC... are you?
