Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

If Bowles is smart, he'll play to win against Atlanta to gain momentum for the playoffs and keep moral high. The starters should be in for at least half the game. BB would probably play them into the 3rd quarter.

Brady has a chance to get the 5000 yard milestone and stay behind Mahomes in passing yards.

Evans was great but he still dropped an easy 43 yard pass. They need to work to maintain that chemistry.

Godwin is close to 1000 yards and is chasing the Bucs reception records.
I would also start everyone who isn't nursing something and try to blow out Atlanta in the first half. This team isn't good enough to 'sit' for a week. You do sit your injured players though. One very key question is to you play Jensen if he wants to play. I say no. You can't afford even one drive ending because of rust at the center position. They aren't good enough to overcome it.

If Brady is inactive against Atlanta does a loss reflect on his stats?

no. but he would finally have a season where he didn’t finish with a winning record. that’s why I want him to start and at least play until the game is in hand

Lol, Bucs games aren't in hand until the clock reads 00:00.....but I understand the sentiment

So what permutations are necessary next week to try and make it as unlikely as possible that the Bucs have to play the Eagles or 49ers in the divisional round assuming they win their wild card game? The Bucs at the 4 seed will face the 5 which is PROBABLY the Cowboys though the Eagles are really risking a truly embarrassing choke where they fall to 5 and the 49ers go to 1. But lets assume Eagles take care of business and are the 1. Giants are the 6 locked in already. Vikings/Niners can both either be 2 or 3 with the Niners a chance at 1 as I said.

It's a no brainer to play the healthy starters and go for the win. But these coaches march to their own tune.

Low seeded teams only have success in the playoffs when they have momentum with a winning streak. The NYG did it twice.

I’m going to be so pissed if they play Brady 1 or 2 drives, pull him, Gabbert or Trask come in and stink it up, Bucs lose, Brady gets the loss and finishes 8-9

Best case scenario IMO is the lions or Packers finish 7th and Eagles get the bye. 49s get knocked off in the wildcard and TB has to beat Cowboys at home and then most likely an away game for divisional with the outside chance of playing a home NFC championship game against Lions or Packers. They make it to the SB and get Buffalo or Cin and win it all. Of course they could get 1-2 serious injuries next week and get blown out in the wild card and Brady retires.

@venecol

Brady in the 4th quarter yesterday:

12-14 for 166, 3 TDs (1 rushing), 158.3 passer rating, sacked once

Runs during that stretch (excluding Brady runs):
Fournette for 1 yard
White for 2 yards
Fournette for no gain

F*CK THE RUN GAME

I’d feel a lot more confident in a miracle SB run if Barrett didn’t tear his Achilles

Absolutely. They need to pass on every single 1st down and try to mix in runs depending what happens after that. The RBs can close out the game should TB ever get a lead which is unlikely anyway. The defense is boom or bust no matter who plays QB.

That would be absolutely the worse coaching decision ever. If defenses think you're going to throw the ball 90% of the time, Brady will get sacked 10 times.
Explain all of their success with Brady in the no huddle. You know, the only time they're good.

All of these 1 & 2 yard runs aren't doing them any good. Pretty much setting up passing downs on 3rd-long. When defenses are teeing off with their pass rush.

I don’t remember who said it in this thread but I’m convinced they were 100% right that Bowels is behind all this running BS to try and keep the defense fresh so he looks better

it doesn’t work yet they keep doing it

calling those run plays to get put in constant 3rd and longs. it’s like they think they have a great pass blocking OL and a Welker/Edelman to get open quick so 3rd and long isn’t a big deal and they can convert them at a high rate

they have neither

Totally agree here but the chances of Bowles playing starters less than 100% are slim. He's too conservative. And I don't want Brady playing with a half-assed game day roster.

I would play the game to win it. That's how BA would play it too. If it's absolutely in hand by the 4th quarter then pull the starters.

Everyone in the world knows it but them. Tom has to take some blame too because either he knows it's BS and isn't saying anything or he's agreeing with this. They don't have receivers that can get open quickly and they don't have elite blocking. You don't need to run to setup PA, which they underuse anyway. They need to stay in 3rd and short where a RB can stay in the game and the defense actually have to honor the run and not tee off. The Oline can't block any kind of overload and Tom isn't moving around in the pocket like he's 28. If he has time then the receivers can become, but not with only 2 downs to throw and the defense teeing off on both of them.

you mean the short 3and out drives keep the defense fresh over long sustained offensive drive?
