Curran Believes Jones is 'Making an Enemy' Out of Belichick

Sure he did. He was the starter against both Detroit and Cleveland and got all the reps.

Again, plenty of time to make a determination there.
Well considering how he played in those 2 games compared to how Jones has been playing this season, Zappe definitely deserves more time as the full time starter.

If Jones falters down the stretch, I'm sure there will be some discussion this offseason about it. The only potential issue is whether or not they bring in a veteran to muddy the waters, which is why Zappe is going to have to put in the work this offseason.

That's an interesting question: let's assume the last 3 years was a rookie coach and he went 7-9, 10-6, and currently 7-7 how would we be looking at it? I think the defensive guys on offense might be fire-able as it is without the cache BB has but then again they'd never have been able to try. For this exercise let's assume a normal offensive staff and the same results.

I've said it elsewhere I think I'd just let Bill do his thing and pray he brings in an offensive staff but if he doubles down then the seat gets extremely hot. I don't think he'll double down and I'm not sure either way that seat can get any hotter. I can't imagine Kraft going there now but how long is supposed to give him. Personally I think 5 years seems right and if you want to argue he burned an extra year with the Patricia thing I wouldn't argue. However 3 years post Brady seems way too soon.

The problem is you gotta wonder if the GOAT Bill Belichick is still there or this going through the motions Belichick who skips the Combines, rather put guys who are unqualified in key positions like Patricia because he is comfortable with them rather than hire an OC who has experience in the system you want to run in a key year for his young first round pick QB, and give players days off when they expect to be practicing when the Patriots are playing like crap? I just fear that Belichick doesn't have the fire anymore.

But I think Belichick burned up his cache putting Patricia and Judge in their roles. I said earlier in this thread that any other head coach would be fired for making moves like that, but that isn't true because most other head coaches would have either overruled or fired for even trying to make such a move. Kraft said Belichick earned the right to make these moves because of his cache. But when it blows up in his face, I don't know if he still can rest on his cache laurels.

But it wasn't just Patricia and Judge. Belichick hung Jones out to dry in the Chicago game and the post press conference. We are seeing he is losing the room probably worse than he did in 2009. And the difference is that in 2009 you just had bad apples who didn't want the hard coaching. They were pissed off for being sent home for being late in a snow storm. This year, the players Belichick and his staff are losing are players who upset that they are not being coached hard or well enough and feel they are being set up for failure. Other than maybe Trent Brown, this group wants to work and succeed and are upset that they feel the coaching staff is letting them down.

Man...I didn't look at the thread. You're on a roll this morning.

If they get blown out on Saturday - which is entirely possible - and most of their drives stall, it's going to be an ugly situation, and as I've also posted, another bad performance could very well see a change come before the year is out, which would certainly set up an interesting offseason.

But we're all just going to have to be patient because they're going to let it play out, and "it is what it is." They don't care what we think

Very threatening at the mere suggestion of giving Zappe another opportunity to win the game on Saturday.

"If" Jones falters down the stretch? There's really no "if" about it, he already has faltered down the stretch. In the past 3 games he has 542 yards passing, with 1 TD and 1 INT.

Um, not threatening at all. But they're not going to bench Mac based on one game. At the same time, if the Bengals get off to a big lead and they're not showing any signs of life, it's very possible he could see time. And if they're out of playoff contention, maybe, as @PatsWickedPissah pointed out, maybe he plays then as well.

However, you need to share whatever brand of coffee it is you're drinking. I need all the help I can get this morning

Whats wrong with winning now?

You state "its where we are" and "it is what is," but that is only true if Zappe plays and is no better.

Kraft might be the dumbest owner in all of sports, if this were in the works.

I don't know about that. After everything Belichick has done this year which goes beyond the Patricia/Judge moves, you gotta wonder if Belichick is the GOAT Belichick anymore. See my last post. But other things I forgot is that he has the smallest coaching staff in the league which is probably a huge factor in why this team is making a lot of dumb mistakes. Pretty stupid to do that when you have guys with no experience at the three most important roles on offense with one of them in control of the two most important roles.

If Belichick made one of two bad mistakes, then Kraft would be stupid to let him go. But there is a long list this year which has to make Kraft wonder if Belichick is just really just going through the motions to stick it out long enough to get Shula's record or is he willing to do what is necessary to make this team a Super Bowl contender again. Based on this season, it is the former.

The INT came when his arm got hit. Other than that, he was obviously terrible on Sunday. So only Belichick knows how long the leash is going to be from here.

I want Patricia put in one of those Hawaiian rolls.

Judge I'll take in just regular hot dog roll.

LOL! Oops! I meant roals and not rolls.

And just because I probably need to say this because someone will think I think roles is spelled roals. It was a joke.

P.S. I edited the post to fix it.

Because Mac is a first-round pick and they've invested a lot of time in him and you don't give up on a player like that, especially one who threw for almost 4,000 yards and threw 22 touchdowns and won 10 games last year. Bad teams are reactionary and make rash decisions. This whole thing will play itself out and the "it is what it is" is in quotes because you know that's not me saying that

We see routes short of the sticks because it’s called that way. Because they don’t thrust Mac throwing the ball in critical situations. since his injury his average depth of target is at the bottom of the league because the coaching staff don’t want him turning the ball over.

At some point we need to realize that if the game are called that way is also cause by Mac’s limitation and not just because Matt Patricia doesn’t know what his doing.
This is more of a catch 22. Mac’s throws aren’t going far because the game isn’t called that way presumably because the coaches don’t think he can do it. Either let him prove he can’t do it or let him prove he can so they can make a decision.

Is your guard dog off today?

I only have 1 cup of coffee and you would not like instant.

I want to play Zappe to reach the playoffs, not after the house has burned to the ground. This season is not a trainwreck if the Pats win these last 3 games. Knocking Buffalo out of homefield is old BB Pats football. Keeping up with Burrow and those 3 WRs is going to be extremely challenging.

Benching Mac now will do no good. The season is almost over, let the kid finish.
I agree with this. Let him finish and let Zappe or whoever else they bring in compete for the starting job next year.

I don't mind instant if it's any good

And again, I hear what you're saying. But they're going to go with their guy for right now until their guy becomes someone else. I would say the one bright spot about this entire situation is at least they have a guy behind him that people can feel good about if it doesn't work out. It's no longer just Brian Hoyer on the depth chart, so there's certainly hope moving forward.

That would put him at the end of a long line of players who played hardball here and got absolutely nothing in return for their efforts.
If he went elsewhere and flourished we would lose the PR battle for the first time in a long time though.

So stickling with Mac and losing is preferred to replacing Mac and winning.

BB has always put the TEAM before any single player. I suppose we find out this Saturday if that is still true.

I don't think that's ever been true. That's what he says in public, though.

I know his numbers. I've entered every one of his plays into the stats database

They have plenty of time. I'm just telling you he's under contract until 2024, so there's no rush to make a move right now. But it's entirely possible that we're having a different conversation this offseason depending on how things finish.
Since were already on to 2023 and beyond lets just play all backups.

I like your thinking. Throw Zappe out there and let Mac rest for the Probowl.
