Belichick would still be looking for his 3rd ring if it were not for getting lucky and drafting Brady ......While he will end up in the hall of fame and is one of the smarter coaches in the league (when he was in his glory years), the bottom line is he is overrated and has guys like Brady and Lawrence Taylor along with Bill Parcells to thank a ton for his 'Legacy' ...hes really a joke now and needs to retire...Sean Payton is the best guy for next year who can get this team back on track if he wants to come to this poor situation. - Like it or not the fact is the Patriots will never get back to being an elite team until this coaching staff including BB has left the building and the true rebuild begins, its not what has happened in the past, its NOW and NOW is the time to let him go Mr. Kraft
And when Mac's line doesn't give him time is that on him? When his receivers drop easy passes like we've seen last night is that on him? When his coaches take away TD's with stupid mistakes is that on him? When Mac's OC calls predictable plays and the defense snuffs them out, is that on him?
Nobody but Stevenson is being consistently excellent or even mistake free (and even he made arguably the biggest mistake of the night turning the last play into a lateral fest).
Anyways the whole Mac issue is a moot point. The situation as it stands now
1. There is no first round worthy QB in the draft this year and if one becomes a reach pick, a team like the Lions will get them first.
2. Bill isn't going to make a big trade for a QB. Especially when we are still in a rebuild
3. No free agent QB is going to want to come here unless we complete open our wallet's for them because money is the only reason they would want to be in this situation. Nobody is looking at us and saying "hmmm that offensive line, Matt Patricia, I get to throw to Meyers, Thornton and washed Agholor.... sign me up".
Most drafted QB's get up to year 3 to prove it. Don't really see much of a difference with Mac.
So the only thing you can control is getting more talent this off season (preferably offensive because we haven't put together a good offense in 4 years) and hopefully dump Patricia.
In these last second drive situations, you put the ball in your best players hands.
This applies to all sports.
Take note of who didnt have the ball. You can run on 1st down up the middle, but after that the obvious plays are passing to save precious seconds then spiking the ball to kill the clock as you try to make FG range. With only 3 seconds left in the game, the only play is the Hail Mary for a TD. I was 100% in favor of trying to end the game in regulation because the Pats would have lost in OT. Carr is a much better QB than given credit for. Meyers is Macs homeboy and Meyers was just trying to help Mac be the hero. Like all you guys said, Mac needs help.
Wouldn't surprise me if the Zappites were the same trolls who piled on McDaniels when the offense stunk. Now when the offense stinks the OC is some sort of innocent bystander.
And what was last year? Mac was average at best. Didn’t beat a single good teams. Beat up on bad teams or teams with a lot of injured player. Was bad the last 5 games of the season when teams started to figure him out except for the Jags game where we play a team that had 20+ players on the Covid list.
What we saw last year is Mac ceiling not his floor.
I saw a QB that has been carried by his running game and OC and this year when we needed him to play QB for real it has been a disaster.

The OC is not an innocent bystander but he is not the one making bad throws all over the field on a 13/31 112 yds against the 31st defense in the league.
If Mac was making the plays that were there on the field this year this team wouldn’t be 7-7. Patricia or not.
Patricia was also the OC when Zappe started and it looked much better than that. That tells me it’s just not a OC problem. Like everyone wants to believe.
Show us that you have the arm to make the big boy NFL plays. Single coverage is open in the NFL. Adams was open for the Bomb but Marcus Jones made a play to knock it out that only a few NFL DBs can pull off. The Bambino crying he wants to throw downfield. How many friggin passes were only good for a 7 foot WR to haul in? Minute Bol throws.
Same thing all year, everything that made the patriots ‘the patriots’ seems to have disappeared.
Stupid errors every week costing us, penalties, special teams **** ups, dumb plays when the safe play would be fine.
Stick to what you know, give up the occasional big play from being safe and professional in all aspects of the game. More games won via lack of **** ups than miami miracles ffs - ESPECIALLY WHEN YOURE NOT EVEN LOSING!
Pissed off now, I said weeks ago we should be tanking for the draft (this team is turd all over) but we kept picking up needless wins in the hope we could get shagged again by the Bills in mid- January.
They've had a mediocre passing offense with the GOAT at QB, a bottom 5 offense with Cam & now another bottom 1/3 passing offense with Mac in his 2nd year. Forcing an offensive coaching staff change isn't enough - Bill shouldn't have personnel control over the offense. They haven't had a #1 option in the passing game that DCs have to gameplan against since Gronk in 2017.
Not really. The Bears game was the first half decent defense Zappe faced and he looked like he didn't belong in the league. Zappe's ceiling is much lower than Mac's.
No-one in particular. Like with BB you could take every historically great coach and argue that they're the GOAT too. Or not the GOAT. Much harder to do this for a coach than it is for a player.
