and a good OC/HC

In retrospect, I think the Niners should have stayed put in the 2021 draft and drafted Parsons, Slater, or Mac at 12th overall
If you look back now on that draft, they wish they would have done it differently, I'm sure. Although Lance may turn out to be a good player, can you imagine that team if they had Parsons. Wow. Their defense is already scary.

How ironic is would it be that the 49ers spent three first rounds picks on Trey Lance and their franchise QB ends up being the last pick in the draft? Purdy still has a lot to prove before he can be considered a franchise QB, but he is off to good start.

BTW, the 49ers could have stayed where they were rather than trading up and drafted Jones and I think Jones would have done just fine in this offense. Or they could have drafted Fields and he would have done fine too. I think the 49ers have developed an offense and a team that pretty much anyone other than Trey Lance (apparently) can succeed in.

Also, Garoppolo's free agency stock is going to plummet if Purdy continues to play well. Teams are going to think Jimmy G's success is a product of Shanahan's system and not his ability.

Purdy definitely is what some of us think/wish Zappe is IMO. One guy has potential to be a lot more than a backup the other guy not really.

More or less ironic than when they traded 3 1sts to draft a QB, because their current one was injury prone, and then their new QB gets IR in his 2nd start of the season?

Oh really great for us because if Mac leaves questions after the season I am sure BB will welcome Jimmy G with open arms. We all know Jimmy G is fragile but BB knows he can win with a guy like him consistently.

Let's wait until we see a healthy Trey Lance before we declare him a bust the 49ers have an excellent program form top to bottom.

He had an easy pick dropped by the Seattle defense. Seattle's secondary was blowing coverages all night long... wide open targets for Purdy. SF is going to coast through their remaining schedule... WAS, @LVR, ARI... SF's defense won't give up more than 13 points in any of those games so Purdy likely won't have to do much. Postseason will be a different story. SF definitely looks headed for the NFCCG but I'll take PHI at home in that one. If SF gets to the SB then I have them losing to KAN, BUF or CIN. Imagine Purdy beating Mahomes, Allen or Burrow in the Super Bowl? I can't.

Way to go out on a limb Ian we would have never guessed that.

Certainly thought I was stating the obvious but judging by @WhatJustHappened 's response, I sort of wonder. Mac's getting the blame for only having 7 touchdown passes in an offense that only has 28 touchdowns and is 18th in the NFL in scoring. This exact same "pathetic" quarterback helped this offense score 51 touchdowns last season (he threw 22), and they were 6th in the NFL in scoring.

What's different...? Gee...I wonder.

You are mistakenly under the impression that Belichick has given up on Mac Jones. He sees what the rest of us see with a atrocious o-line and poor coaching. He will never publicly admit to the latter, but he knows that Patricia is a horrible OC. I seriously doubt that Belichick will pay starter money for Garoppolo, AT BEST, to compete for the starting job.

Zach Wilson starts this Sunday.

This makes sense. The Jets should try to figure out what they've got if anything. No point keeping him on the bench

Wow, Zach Wilson returns Sunday against the lions as white will not be cleared. Should be interesting! Hoping for another jets loss

Edit: sb1 beat me to it by seconds lol

How do you account for Mac's poor finish to the 2021 season? Unless you think 8 turnovers in 5 games is "helping the offense." Changing the offense and putting Patricia in charge of it was an extremely poor decision, which has had an obvious detrimental impact, but Mac hasn't played well since week 12 of last season (with McDaniels).

Zach Wilson hopelessly sucks. Literally scratch NYJ from the wild card race. BAL and CIN are both making the postseason. LAC couldn't hand pick a better finish to their season (TEN, @IND, LAR, @DEN) so they're in. The final wild card spot is coming down to the Patriots or the Dolphins.

I think he was both injured and ran out of gas in what was the first 17-week season for the league. I said this in a previous thread(s) that he didn't look the same after taking a couple shots midseason last year compared to how he looked early in the season.

The offensive line is beyond terrible, with both tackles obviously being a glaring issue and Brown being the biggest disappointment. I mean, I posted a still where both tackles were on the ground in 1.25 seconds, and that still wasn't enough for people to be reasonable.

And all these young kids are fearless and play well early on because they all stand in until the last minute when they throw and look great until they finally get drilled. Mike White is probably going to be the latest example. I'm guessing if/when he plays again, he'll probably also be a little skittish. The same will likely be true of Purdy when he finally gets hit hard.

It reaches a point for all of these guys where they realize they can't play like they did in college because their NFL careers won't be long ones. Guys at this level are just too big and too strong and those hits are obviously a lot harder. Self-preservation does eventually become a thing, and it's something I mention because you don't really even see too many veteran guys these days, even players like Brady, willing to stand in there and take that shot because it obviously hurts and it isn't conducive to being able to be out there every week during what's now a 17-week season.

The Philly-San Fran game would be an epic battle for the NFC Championship. If Jimmy G can play and San Fran doesn't lose any more games, who would you play at qb in that game?

This is like the Brady-Bledsoe debate heading into SB 36. I would go with the hot hand, Purdy.

For the Niners to get to the NFCCG, they probably have to beat Was/NYG and Minnesota. I think Purdy can do it.

You're killing me with that signature, BTW. LOL, this is a Pats forum. I know this year has been ugly, but celebrating Mahomes here feels a little bizarre. I mean, you do you, but I miss the days of watching the Edelman play that @Kontradiction once had in his signature. Watching Mahomes throw to Hill obviously isn't even close to being in the same ballpark, at least not on this board.
