Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat Arizona

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

A win is a win, let's take it and keep on moving. A lot of encouraging things about last night. A lot of things need improvement but love to see the contributions from our young players!!!!!! Let's goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
Agree. How many cups of coffee did you have this morning? Lol

A dub is a dub. Good opportunity to see Strong and Other Harris in action. Costly game all around in terms of injuries. We beat a bad AZ team, which is better than losing to one. And about Murray's injury - no disrespect to him and his game, because I feel for anybody injured, so this isn't a gloat. But it's been true for at least the half-century I've been watching the game: Running quarterbacks break. With all the protection they get, they can even just spontaneously break themselves with nobody touching them. I'm realizing now that knowing that with TB at QB was one thing... we had THE GUY for two decades. Most QBs get you a relatively few mediocre years. It changes the math... Anyway, I'm glad we have RBs on our team for the running

marcus jones has played 176 snaps. A decent sample size at this point:

14 targets
5 receptions
0 TDs
1 INT
28.3 rating

His extended playing time has come against cooper, davis & hopkins. Time to get him off kick returns.

The pats should be able to rotate jones x3 & mills & get bryant off the field. Maybe jonathan jones returns to the slot?

Reading this thread, it's clear that people seem not to have noticed that our right tackle is Connor McDermott.
Yeah, he’s not good. But at least he tried. The same thing can’t be said of Trent Brown, who can be very good when he wants to be. Probably, though, we should have had him in the right side where the Raiders put him after he was here the first time

LT is a critical need. Herron, we miss you.

Connor McDermott should be on the bench vs the Raiders can't have him playing... or Crosby and C Jones will be in the HOF after the game.

Through most of the first half I was wondering if BB had made some quiet coaching changes - and hired Cheddar Bob and Plaxico Buress to really show the Patriots how to shoot themselves in the foot. Or maybe auto-correct on Matty P's tablet was set to change everything typed to "Screen" when he filtered the play list.

That said, the D woke up and showed what they can do - again. The running backs were down to the bottom of the roster and showed a lot of promise. A frustrating win, but still a win. There are a lot of holes on this team, but the pieces that are there are pretty damn good.

MP is in over his head.
But I laugh at all these media clowns ranting about all the screen passes. If you're gonna cover the nfl shouldnt you have beyond just a basic knowledge of the game?
Our ol can't block. Period. Mac running for his life almost every play. No way in hell can they attempt any deep passes.
That's why the scheme is what it is.
The #1 issue is NOT MP. Not Mac. Not the wrs. It's the extremely offensive line.
Yes injuries on the ol have played a part. But Wynn sucked when he played. Brown has been inconsistent. Gotta fix this mess in the offseason. Do what takes including kidnapping Scar.

That is a New England Patriot right there--the swiss army knife special. Was he a high school quarterback at some point too?
He wasn’t even really an offensive player at all. His NFL receiving stat line (3/63/1) basically matches his senior year of high school (3/65/1).

Jack Jones, on the other hand, had 93 yards and 1.2 TDs per game as a high school senior.

This is not the biggest problem with the offense.

The biggest problem with the offense is our pass protection. We cannot give Mac time to drop back and go through his reads. An offense that utilizes quick dropbacks, screens, and running the ball negate our horrendous OL play.

I've been realistic all along about Matt Patricia's ability to run an offense. He isnt great but that doesn't mean it can't work at all. Call it tempered criticism. He is not perfect, but I am not sure who the other options would be. IMO its been a dumpster-fire combination of Mac's poor awareness and turnovers (better lately), play-calling, "meh" talent at skill positions, and most of all: OL play (specifically OT).

IMO the OL play has been the biggest problem with the offense though.
But that's the thing. Matty P is in charge of the OL. If they suck (and they do) that's, in part, on him.

That's a great point. Not highlighted during the game. Announcers didn't focus much on the individual line play and when they did they seemed to miss the point. Aikman criticized Trent twice while commenting on Strong's TD, saying he was washed into the backfield. When I saw the play it seemed to me Trent was washing his man into the backfield. I'm surprised that Herron is now the next great thing. I liked him as a backup left tackle but he's not going to be better than Trent. Next week will be a major challenge for McDermott opposite Crosby. Trent will have his hands full with Jones. Need a little help from their friends.

They barely beat a Cardinals team who was bad to begin with and then lost their QB three plays into the game.

Uche play was been a pleasant suprize. But yeah, Chandler Jones versus Conor McDermott will be ugly!

If Burrow goes down after the 3rd play, Chase fumbles the ball for a D TD and their average OL turns into swiss cheese, we absolutely can beat the Bungles.

If Mahomes goes down after the 3rd play, Kelce fumbles the ball for a D TD and their good OL turns into swiss cheese, we absolutely can beat the Chefs.

If Allen goes down after the 3rd play, Diggs fumbles the ball for a D TD and their not so good OL turns into swiss cheese, we absolutely can beat the Jills.

I think we found the winning formula.
Mac and Patricia hugging last night reminded me of Bill Walsh and Joe Montana.

Anyone else concerned about Thornton being used in the quick passing game with all of those big bodies near him? There was a play where he was in the slot and a quick pass was delivered to him and big guys tackled him.

Keep him deeper and outside. He is a slender kid.

Absolutely I held my breath a few times.

Reminded me more of the Godfather 2

This play is on Mac, but...

He must have PTSD as he gets a ton of time to throw, gets happy feet too fast, and then goes backward right into the pass rush.

Onwenu knocks his guy down, Trent is holding up, even McDermott holds his block. Time to step up and throw Mac, even a tough throw into the end zone. No time to wait for guys to come loose. Not going to happen. Instead Mac gets jittery and kills the play just when the OL is doing its job. Step up and throw.

This is my worry about Mac, either he's been so impacted by what's gone on with the offense and OL that he can't do what QBs need to do when the opportunity presents itself, or else he's checked out mentally.
