Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat Arizona

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

They played better. Offense still is a mess. Need more Thorton. When the patriots threw the ball forward the results were pretty good. Patriots can't block the long developing screen plays.

I feel like we have more of a shot against KC than Buffalo. Would be great if it worked out if the Bills got bounced in the off chance New England makes it and gets past that round.
Plenty of teams can beat KC. Opposing defenses just have to catch the 2-3 balls Mahomes will gift them for trying to do too much. Oh and not let Kelce be wide open all the time

That’s inexcusable

When playaction is run, the QB looks away from the play to sell the fake. If the defense is blitzing, which the Cards do a lot, having the QB look away is not ideal. With Mac it might be even worse since he does not scramble well. It is not obvious to me why this is bad. Can you explain why you think it is inexcusable?

Because their defense sucks at defending PA and the Pats are successful when they run it. 3 out of thirty something is inexcusable, that rate is way too low even against a team that likes to blitz.

Seriously though.... learning all three phases as a rookie and having the gas tank to pull it off. Dunno that I've ever seen it.
He reminds me of Troy Brown who was involved in all three phases…but Troy didn’t do all of it right out of the gate. Marcus is a unique talent

Good win. We needed a comfortable win like that. Offense was still very suspect but made enough plays. Defense played great. I loved seeing the younger guys stepping up and making plays. Let's hope this leads to a late season surge and a playoff spot. Go Pats.

They really did focus at adding speed on offense and I love that,
The play of Strong and Harris will make it impossible to keep Damien Harris.
The trio of Bourne Thornton and I hope Marcus Jones learning more routes is the most explosive offense we can field right now.
We are one dynamic receiver away.

I really truly honestly believe Meyers holds this offense back with his lack of big play ability.

I would let him walk. Or franchise with the intent to trade if a team is so willing.

We need a sultan in the slot another deep threat like Thornton but most importantly new O line the whole way across the Board.
Maybe Strange can develop and stay but that’s it so far.
Connor McDermott hasn’t been a bad pickup.

To me the draft is O line, safety, receiver, unless you don’t think Mac or Bailey is the guy.

Then you do everything to find a franchise QB.
I don’t think the plan was to keep Damien anyways. This was a good game for 2 of our backup running backs….small sample size and it will be awhile before we know whether they will consistently be great here like Damien was.
In all honesty I don’t think Meyers holds the offense back at all when he is healthy….in many games HE has been our offense!!!! Agree with draft….we need to go heavily OL and hopefully top WR talent……

Agreed. Let's hope this Oline can improve. Maybe Wynn can return? I know. Never thought I would forward to a Wynn return.
I think Wynn has shown himself to be a bust and he and Trent Brown seem to have checked out …..OL is going to be inconsistent and a problem rest of the way ….hopefully can fix it with draft and FA next year

He's already out of range. Double digit sack seasons get PAID whether it's a good contract or not. Just gotta enjoy his play while we can.
Agreed….

Aikman commented after 1 of his drops that eagles fans were familiar with that issue.
That was my complaint having seen it up close in Philly. I was pleasantly shocked last year but he is back to his normal dropsies.......

An actual dedicated OL coach would help. I’m surprised Yates hasn’t grown into that role. Maybe PattyCake won’t let him.

I get what Patricia is doing to some point with the short passes and screens because he knows the OL is crap and won’t provide much time for Mac to get the ball out and he knows Mac is very slow in his progressions and too often is going to try to get it to his first if not 2nd read …don’t get me wrong Fat Matt sucks in offensive playcalling and scheming….but I understand the quick screens…..now a better D would have had several picks last night because it was so predictable!

We’re doing the WR screens because our top 2 RBs were hurt and the guy playing RT came off the street 2 weeks ago. WR screens were effectively our runs. We’ve seen this before in similar situations in the past. RB screens are a different story

We needed this win!!!! Josh Uche, Matt Judon and company played great!!!

Mac made some nice throws, still need to play better going forward. I'll take the win though!!!!!

Let's discuss!!!!!!!!!

How much fun was it to get a win?

I said this in the game day thread, this is the first game where it looks that they actually let Jones call audibles. On the first TD drive I counted three plays where Jones audibled and all three were successful plays.

Notice how on both sides of the ball the Pats played better when they got aggressive. They started to put a lot more pressure on McCoy and he wilted. They started to throw more vertical passes and they scored even in the red zone.

I'll give Steve Belichick a little leeway since he develop a game plan for Kyler Murray and it took him time to adjust. But there is no excuse for Patricia's ultra conservative, throw a screen pass almost every passing play approach he came into the game with.
