Bill Belichick: Highest Paid Coach in North American Sports at $20m per

I hate Bill. I hate how he ran Tommy off when Tommy approached his 40's. I hate how he played the odds. I hate that he ran Jimmy G off too, even tho we didn't need him because we had Tommy. I hate Handy Bob and the disrespect he brings my team with his happy endings. I hate Bill's nepotism. I hate that he's not nice to the media guys who need to tell me what to think because I don't know **** about football. I hate how he makes 20m even tho it has zero effect on me. I hate that they aren't winning, even tho no one else has had a 20 year run. I hate how he drafts. I hate that he won't get a fancy wide out diva for me to put on my fantasy team and gloat to my buddies how awesome I am. I hate that he gave Stidham away, and I hate how Stidham is now tearing up the league. I hate his stupid hoodie, his GD boat and all 8 of his GD rings.

I need my medication.

To me 2017 is when the draft classes started to get bad.

2017: One rotational role player in Wise.
2018: Wynn has been average to bad. Sony was a bust. And Bentley is a solid role player who is asked to do too much sometimes.
2019: Complete mess other than Harris and one year for the punter.
2020: Dugger seems to show promise but doesn't seem to be taking the next step. Onwenu has been a good versatile player.
2021: Stevenson looks great. Mac and Barmore look to have regressed.
You don't win a championship without Sony. He wasn't a bust.

Okay so the late Brady era drafting had nothing to do with what happened in the post-Brady era. Got it.
This is really the point I was making...We are going to blame paying players yearly for the decline of a roster that was years in the making (2020-present). Rather than the best and easiest way to acquire cheap, young talent to fill the roster...Sorry, signing Gilmore didnt hinder the patriots from building a good roster in 2020

He wins 2001 and 2018. I'd also say that later in his career, Peyton did become clutch, once he stopped going downfield exclusively. The best thing for him was playing with Wes Welker. He wins against the Eagles in 2004 because 1/2 the QBs in the league could win that game. 2003 and 2014 he loses.

So, if Manning were in New England, I'd say he would have won 2001, 2004, 2006, 2013, 2018. That's 5. He would've lost 2003, 2014, 2016. 2 of those he would have won because he wouldn't have lost to Peyton Manning. Don't know about 2007 and 2011. Not sure he would play to 2018 however.
Youre literally basing winning a super bowl off of 1 game per year, think about that

Almost every great coach has had great players.
Lombardi had Starr.
Shula has griese and Marino.
Walsh had Montana.
Laundry had staubach
Parcels had LT
Reid had mcnadd and mahomes

Only a few were consistent winners without the great QB

I don't understand why people here are so willing to separate Belichick and Brady and what they accomplished together. It's not one or the other. It was both of them. It's myopic not to recognize that.

You forgot:
Dungy with Shaun King, Dilfer and Manning
BA with a washed up QB let go by their old team

Why would anyone care about this at all? That's what gets me. They were in 4 Super Bowls in this period of bad drafting and they won 3.

Would any other fanbase in the NFL care?

No.

Which tells you everything about how spoiled some of this fanbase is.
Agree. They need something to ***** about.

...and the same group of draft critics never want to acknowledge how insanely well the team does with UFAs and castoffs from other teams for reasonable dollars.

Player acquisition comes in many forms. BB maximizes them all.

You do know the owner has a budget right? You think he’s into wasting money?
Paying Belichick what he makes doesn't effect the team. The salary cap is set each year and due to the CBA, the team has to basically pay nearly all of it to players or face penalties. So this would only matter as much as it effects Kraft's personal life.

Sony at least had a good run in the playoffs and helped with that title run. I think having Chubb available hurts Sony’s reputation as a draft pick

Barmore has been hurt. Hopefully he is healthy soon the defense needs him.

2019 was horrible

I didnt say it directly effected the team or the salary cap...But where do you think BB gets the money to spend on players? Thats cash coming out of RKs budget bud. Its not a never ending cash flow, there is a budget

So whats the point of your post except to inflict more butt-hurtedness on the board over Brady choosing to leave the Patriots?

I guess all I can say is Thanks for proving my point about myopic posts.

2017, the year we lost draft picks to Deflategate.

By any standard measure, 2020 and 2021 were good.

It doesn't matter. Regardless of what Kraft pays Bill, Kraft still has to have a player payroll that covers almost all of the salary cap. What Kraft pays on the salary cap is set in stone when it's set for that year. He has no option but to pay it.

Okay so the late Brady era drafting had nothing to do with what happened in the post-Brady era. Got it.
Again--we're talking about going all in to win championships. Stay on subject. You have to pay the piper. The team started a tear down in 2020 BECAUSE of what they did prior to that. We're talking about being strapped because of the cap.

Do you think Kraft is into getting bad value for his money?

Nah, I'm basing it off of Peyton Manning being one of the greatest QBs of all time and being a stat inflater in the playoffs (always until he faced the Patriots). That's what I'm basing it on. Belichick's defenses were Manning's kryptonite for awhile. He dominated the league otherwise. If we had Marino, we probably win 6.

at least you are honest about it.

Too early to judge. Wynn looked good for a few years then it became obvious he couldn't stay on the field and now that recontextualizes how that class is viewed.

Nah, I'm basing it off of Peyton Manning being one of the greatest QBs of all time and being a super wonder in the playoffs while losing in a big Super Bowl. That's what I'm basing it on. If we had Marino, we probably win 6.
Well, first...You definitely just did, you went through the super bowl rings by looking at the super bowls only...2018 he scores 37 in KC? In negative temps? Interesting.

But you can honestly think whatever you want, the best Bill defense at this point is that he wouldve won hypothetically with somebody else...Its not based in reality

Let's talk about 2017 not in a vacuum but in the context of using draft capital to acquire NFL caliber talent which helps the team win.

4 Picks

We can agree Rivers and Garcia were busts. 3rd rd picks with a > 20% of being successful in the NFL. Whatever. McDermott was 211.

Wise at 131 was a home run. He is a starter. We'll disagree on his value to the team.

Now the reason why they only had 4 picks.....

Brandin Cooks
Dwayne Allen
Kony Ealy
James O’Shaughnessy
Kyle Van Noy

Lost 4th rounder to BS Deflategate.

You can certainly find fault for missing on some picks and trades but with a GOAT QB in his late 30s he was in win now mode.

I thank him for that.

You asked a hypothetical and then you critique me for answering it.

It's not reality you say.

Then don't ask the hypothetical.

This is bizarro world on this board today
