To me 2017 is when the draft classes started to get bad.

2017: One rotational role player in Wise.
2018: Wynn has been average to bad. Sony was a bust. And Bentley is a solid role player who is asked to do too much sometimes.
2019: Complete mess other than Harris and one year for the punter.
2020: Dugger seems to show promise but doesn't seem to be taking the next step. Onwenu has been a good versatile player.
2021: Stevenson looks great. Mac and Barmore look to have regressed.

You don't win a championship without Sony. He wasn't a bust.

Okay so the late Brady era drafting had nothing to do with what happened in the post-Brady era. Got it.

This is really the point I was making...We are going to blame paying players yearly for the decline of a roster that was years in the making (2020-present). Rather than the best and easiest way to acquire cheap, young talent to fill the roster...Sorry, signing Gilmore didnt hinder the patriots from building a good roster in 2020

He wins 2001 and 2018. I'd also say that later in his career, Peyton did become clutch, once he stopped going downfield exclusively. The best thing for him was playing with Wes Welker. He wins against the Eagles in 2004 because 1/2 the QBs in the league could win that game. 2003 and 2014 he loses.

So, if Manning were in New England, I'd say he would have won 2001, 2004, 2006, 2013, 2018. That's 5. He would've lost 2003, 2014, 2016. 2 of those he would have won because he wouldn't have lost to Peyton Manning. Don't know about 2007 and 2011. Not sure he would play to 2018 however.

Youre literally basing winning a super bowl off of 1 game per year, think about that

Lombardi had Starr.
Shula has griese and Marino.
Walsh had Montana.
Laundry had staubach
Parcels had LT
Reid had mcnadd and mahomes

Only a few were consistent winners without the great QB

I don't understand why people here are so willing to separate Belichick and Brady and what they accomplished together. It's not one or the other. It was both of them. It's myopic not to recognize that.

2020: Dugger seems to show promise but doesn't seem to be taking the next step. Onwenu has been a good versatile player.
2021: Stevenson looks great. Mac and Barmore look to have regressed.

Sony at least had a good run in the playoffs and helped with that title run. I think having Chubb available hurts Sony’s reputation as a draft pick

Barmore has been hurt. Hopefully he is healthy soon the defense needs him.

Let's talk about 2017 not in a vacuum but in the context of using draft capital to acquire NFL caliber talent which helps the team win.

We can agree Rivers and Garcia were busts. 3rd rd picks with a > 20% of being successful in the NFL. Whatever. McDermott was 211.

Wise at 131 was a home run. He is a starter. We'll disagree on his value to the team.

You can certainly find fault for missing on some picks and trades but with a GOAT QB in his late 30s he was in win now mode.
