Bill Belichick should be the highest coach in North America. I'm not a snowflake...I will forever appreciate the success he brought us.

Unfortunately it’s about what are you doing for us today not the past…. and the past three years have been an abysmal failure….

Certainly not with the staff he’s put together here.

Bill himself is the best coach in the league, but he’s been allowed to cut down the staff to having people he likes around him in key positions based on relationships but not abilities. This is where Bill has massively screwed up. His own nepotism, not his ability as a coach.

If BB did it alone why wasn't Bernie kozar the GOAT? When in Cleveland.. Bledsoe, or any other qb associated with BB. Just saying...

Brady was the difference maker for BB becoming one of if not the Greatest coach of all time…..how many championships would BB have won without Tom?

Yeah, not letting you have a "mic drop" moment on that. Yes, I agree all would have been successful. However, none of those names win six titles. Period. Rodgers turtled (and still turtles) when it mattered and so did Manning (how many one-and-done games did he have?), and Brees turned it over when it counted. Brady is mentally tougher than all of those guys, with Mahomes being the only potential outlier given what we've seen so far.

Enough. Again, I know that hurts the schtick you're running with, but "it is what it is." Let's move the discussion along.

Because you have a salary cap for players and when money is a limited commodity, the past matters less than the future. There's no salary cap for coaches that hurts the team. So Bill can just say "hey Bob here's the deal, since I've come to your team, there's probably been over 100 head coaches hired over that period of 22 years. In those 22 years I brought your team 6 Super Bowls. The other 100 coaching hires brought in 16. Only Coughlin has gotten more than 1 aside from me. Do you want to bet on me again or do you want to go back to the well and hope you lucky and pick up one of those lucky 16 out of a hundred. Because even if you are lucky, odds say that coach will just get you 1 before you eventually move on."

And that's not even counting things like Cowher having been hired before that. If I was Kraft, I'd want to ride Bill out until it's apparent he can't continue rather than hope I get lucky.

The goal for every draft is to land 2 starters and 2 reserves. That quote is from Ron Wolff.

By that standard Bill has done fine.

You don't go to 7 straight conference championships drafting poorly.

On average teams miss on 73% of their picks.

Fans forget how hard the draft is.

You can't land top talent in the draft picking 28-32 every year.

2019 was horrible. That is acknowledged

Look at their drafts from 2014-2020 and tell me they were a good drafting team…you’re correlating them being a great team to the draft; where as the top of the roster was all older home grown talent or free agents….at some point that catches up with you, and it did.

I've already determined their drafting was respectable based on the criteria defined by one of the greatest GMs ever.

Bringing up bad drafts while you're winning Super Bowls is just nonsense, not to mention the NFL grabbing draft picks from us over Deflategate.

I disagree. It is a record that no other coach in the game today has a chance to eclipse (edit - Andy Reid has an outside shot, depending on how long he stays in KC - he's only 64 - and is -86 to tie shula). Eventually, another coach will have the opportunity given the nfls bent on expanding the number of regular and post season games. But nobody coaching today is even close.

You are correct in saying championship trophies are the ultimate measuring stick, total wins including wins by a coach shine a light on the consistency and resilience of a franchise to be competitive year in year out. Everything BB achieves leads directly back to RKKs willingness to take a gamble on a guy, as some people here love to remind us and nauseam, didn't have a winning record before coming here.

It's another record. It's yet another feather in the cap of the Kraft family record book as stewards of the New England Patriots.

Very likely BB would have been let go by the team after the 2002 season and as a 2 time failed HC that probably would have been it for him beyond a DC role. To be fair Brady benefited too from having BB as a coach. It was a partnership as perfect as it could get.

Yup. It's debatable whether BB is the greatest coach of all time but there is no debate for Brady.

Why would anyone care about this at all? That's what gets me. They were in 4 Super Bowls in this period of bad drafting and they won 3.

He wins 2001 and 2018. I'd also say that later in his career, Peyton did become clutch, once he stopped going downfield exclusively. The best thing for him was playing with Wes Welker. He wins against the Eagles in 2004 because 1/2 the QBs in the league could win that game. 2003 and 2014 he loses.

So, if Manning were in New England, I'd say he would have won 2001, 2004, 2006, 2013, 2018. That's 5. He would've lost 2003, 2014, 2016. 2 of those he would have won because he wouldn't have lost to Peyton Manning. Don't know about 2007 and 2011. Not sure he would play to 2018 however.

Almost every great coach has had great players.
Lombardi had Starr.
Shula has griese and Marino.
Walsh had Montana.
Laundry had staubach
Parcels had LT
Reid had mcnadd and mahomes

Only a few were consistent winners without the great QB

I don't understand why people here are so willing (eager it seems) to separate Belichick and Brady and what they accomplished together. It's not one or the other. It was both of them. It's myopic not to recognize that.

Which ones? It sure wasn't 2011-2018

To me 2017 is when the draft classes started to get bad.

2017: One rotational role player in Wise.
2018: Wynn has been average to bad. Sony was a bust. And Bentley is a solid role player who is asked to do too much sometimes.
2019: Complete mess other than Harris and one year for the punter.
2020: Dugger seems to show promise but doesn't seem to be taking the next step. Onwenu has been a good versatile player.
2021: Stevenson looks great. Mac and Barmore look to have regressed.

Okay so the late Brady era drafting had nothing to do with what happened in the post-Brady era. Got it.
