Bill Belichick: Highest Paid Coach in North American Sports at $20m per

Florio brought up a fascinating observation on Curran's podcast. He said the Patriots won't have to fire BB if they decide to move on. In fact if that happens and BB wants to keep coaching then they would just have to advertise to teams that Bill is available. Teams who feel they're just a coach away would be interested in bringing him in. He says they would agree to take on that $20M+ and they'd also offer a first rounder plus for BB if he's available. Never thought of it that way.

Would the Patriots trade BB if there was a taker and we were offered a first round pick or more?
Not so sure about Florio’s take.

BB is 71. How many more years is he gonna coach? And if he does move on to another team he will want to bring his own guys - Patricia, Judge, his kids, etc.. He’ll also likely want to run the ship.

How many teams “that are close” will agree to give up a first rounder, $20m + whatever it takes to buy out their old staff plus hire Bills staff, and give a 71 year old control. I just don’t see it. 5 or 10 years ago for sure, but now?

And who are these teams that are just a coach away? Chargers? The Spanos are cheap. Cowboys? Jerry Jones likes a splash and could afford it, but could those 2 work together? Who else?

He did not have 20 yrs of success behind him and also kraft coveted BB who he realized was available. its not the same situation IMO.
That is true, it was probably more a case of wanting BB here more than keeping BB. But their record wasn't terrible when they let him go

He did mention the Chargers as one possibility. Bill would have to agree to it obviously. Would be tough for a 71 year old to uproot everything here and move across the country. Jerruh and Bill would be an interesting pairing especially

I think BB would love a trade to the Giants for obvious reasons but I think they're set with Daboll.

He’s 25% ahead of the next coach (Pete Carrol) in all North American sports. With the way things are going you gotta wonder if the Krafts will be happy to shell out another $60m or so just to see Belichick break Shula’s record.

Here is the list

only 60 million? i'm sure he would... BB sitting atop the all time wins list? that is definitely something RKK would enjoy... another NFL record setting benchmark during his tenure as owner...

Florio speculated before 2007 season said moss could be cut after preseason. He has such a big voice in this industry that this stuff will spread and become news out of nothing :)

I thought the Patriots dont pay based on past performance?

Even so...he is 5-11, 0-2, 11-5, 3-1, 7-9, 10-7, and 6-6 without Brady as the Patriots coach.

42:41 with these QB's: Bledsoe (5-13), Cassell (10.75-5), Jimmy Garoppolo (1.5-0), Jacoby Brisset (1.5-1), CAM NEWTON (7-8), Brian Hoyer (0-1), Mac Jones (14-11.5), and Billy Zappe (2-1.5).

I just dont see why when a player is up for a contract, the team bases it off of their future, but for the coach its based off of the prior 20 years...Theres no consistency

I’m sure coaches are the same. It’s just different on PatsFans.com.

What's a first round pick... We've had them taken away... We've had Dominique Easley, siny, nkeal, and then things got strange

And how about this to add some spice.... Can you imagine one team in particular who engages the Patriots in trade talks involving BB because they feel they're only a coach away...the Buccaneers. o_O I'd buy that storyline on PPV. Lol
It's really a dream a bradyband bb reunion

Bill Belichick should be the highest coach in North America. I'm not a snowflake...I will forever appreciate the success he brought us.

This is another caveat as to if Bob moves on from Bill. If he has some years left, it's guaranteed so Bob isn't going to want to pay two HC's.

Pats need better FO and assistants on the staff. You can see the correlation of when Pioli was co GM and when Flyod Reese was there as each of the dynasty teams had foundational players. And I'm sure Bob will want Bill to explain the plan for spending in FA this offseason.
