REPORT: Josh Allen is Dealing With An Elbow Injury

Case Keenum is a decent backup but obviously still a significant downgrade from Josh Allen. Depending on the actual severity of the injury, Buffalo probably should sit Allen until he's close to 100%. Or it may be something that will nag Allen for the remainder of the season and be more of a pain tolerance issue. Buffalo probably could get through the next 3 games at 3-0 or 2-1 with Keenum but if they were to lose Allen for any extended period of time then the division would probably become wide open with Miami being a slight favorite.

I'm shocked. The last thing I expected with Allen the way he plays, and the reckless way Sean McDermott employs him in the running attack, was an elbow injury. A knee injury, ankle injury, cracked or broken ribs or head injury was all just a matter of time though.

With the way our O-line has been playing, I don't think it would make much of a difference who the QB is or who's calling the plays. We have to get back to being able to block up front and that's been our biggest issue. Now, if you add Scar in the mix, with a great QB and a competent play caller, now we might be cooking.
The Pats don’t have any of that. Unfortunately.

Given that his last pass of the game traveled 70 yards in the air grade 1 seems more likely than grade 3 but with in-game adrenaline who knows. MRI will tell the story.

"The NFL has a microchip in every football for tracking through its Next Gen Stats, and those stats showed that the pass Allen threw to Davis traveled 69.3 yards in the air. That made it the farthest distance a thrown football has traveled in an NFL game in six seasons.”

Also pssible that he could have exacerbated the injury with that throw.

Really? That's a pretty long throw for a guy who just hurt his arm. Dude must be strong!

Just googled longest pass, and it's only a 3-4 feet longer:

"The record for longest NFL pass is currently owned by Baker Mayfield, who an astounding 70.5 yard hail mary against the Baltimore Ravens in 2020.Oct 9, 2022"

I'm still trying to figure out how NextGenStats thinks that Mayfield incompletion was only 68.1yds in the air. Makes me think someone didn't nerd enough.

When I saw the injury happen my first thought was Tommy John. Time will tell I guess.

My question for everybody here.
If Mac doesn’t Improve after the bye let’s say it gets worse.
Does Bill make a change?
Especially with Buff losing its heart and soul on offense.
I know that’s still a talented group but Case Keenum.
We have a real shot at a playoff run Miami in my opinion is our biggest hurdle.
If that were to be the case, then I’d hope it would be Zappe hour in NE..

Honestly they’ve been super fortunate allen has been as healthy as he has . The load he’s carrying and his wreckless style of play doesn’t bode well with longevity.

If buffalo is smart they get a real rb/ run game and cut down on the qb run plays until playoff time. Might cost you some regular season success but its likely going to extend your window by years.
The irony is that with all the running that Allen does he got hurt on a pass from the pocket.

Hopefully we'll get to play the Bills without Allen at 100%.

Maybe before looking a the Bills we should focused on finishing in front of the Jets and Dolphins. Which is far from a done deal.

Doesn’t matter if Allen is injured if we are still last in the division
We're actually in decent shape. We're only one game behind those teams with a win against the Jets and another game vs Miami.

It's interesting how Allen, a running QB who runs far too much, got hurt on a pass from the pocket.

Agreed. I think in this case it's kind of a fluky thing, but in general I wonder if this happens more often than not. Guys are more prone to get hurt when they're doing something that's less natural to them, because they don't subconsciously know how to protect themselves.

Should reinforce his preference to run since returns from pocket-staying are painful.

Probably a Grade 1, if even that, considering his last pass of the game was a bomb. If they’re smart, they’ll rest him against the Vikings if there’s any amount of significant pain. Cousins has a bad habit of ****ting the bed against better defenses, which Buffalo has.
Maybe the 70 yrs pass exacerbated the injury?

It's surprising that more TJ injuries don't occur in football considering how many times a QB's arm is jammed by a 300+ lb lineman just at the max loading point.

He's been lucky so far with the way he takes on defenders with his runs.
Granted he's more skilled at it but his Bledsoe day is coming.

I'm fine with Allen playing this week, pushing through and aggravating it to the point that he has to sit for our game

That ought to rub right out.
Could have broken his hands there ouch.

Hilarious that his injury is directly caused by the NFL restricting the target area on a QB (no hits to the legs or up high) in the name of “safety” and the “quality of the game.” Defenses are now actively being instructed to go after the ball when the ball hasn’t left the QB’s hands yet to both get a strip sack and avoid a 15-yard penalty. In a swift twist of irony, overprotecting the QB led to what will be a nagging elbow injury to one of the best QBs in the game right now.
