Pre Game Thread- Pats @ Jets

Coming off, in my opinion, one of the most disappointing losses in recent memory, we look ahead against the Jets. What a difference 12 hours can make. This team needs to play better on offense, defense and special teams. We also need to play with emotion. There seemed to be something "lacking" against the Bears. We also need to coach better.

I would expect Mac to be our starter this week. Whether it's Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and now Justin Fields, it seems we have problems playing/containing/rushing QB's with mobility.

It's a short week. Hopefully, Barmore will be back and Dugger can play. We're just a totally different defense without those two.

Let's discuss.
You know it's bad when there are no exclamation marks in this post.

Pats have a history of making bum QBs have career nights. Hopefully, Wilson is still too bad to make for a repeat of last night. Fields at least has legs. I've seen Wilson scramble around the backfield but I'm not sure if he has the same mobility going forwards.

I think this can be a bounce back game. The good news is that with Breece Hall out, the Jets will have a difficult time exploiting the weaknesses of the defense against the run. The Pats should be able to handle Zach Wilson.

On offense, they need to get Jones more confidence. They need to stop asking him to throw down the field on almost every play. Design some quick pass plays. More real play action and run to set up the pass like they did with Zappe. The good news is being a short week, Patricia probably cannot get too exotic.

And Belichick has to name Jones the starter and do anymore of this "both guys will play" crap. Last night wasn't fair to Jones. He knew he had a short leash. The home crowd even signs for Zappe before they started the chants. Belichick set Jones up for failure and Jones wilted. The wilting is on Jones, but Belichick should never have put him in that position. He needs to show his faith in Jones this week even if he is faking it.

Never underestimate Matt Patricia's talent to screw things up (on offense at least).

Mac did not look unhealthy! Why are people saying this? His ankle is not 100%, but it was good enough to scramble around.
That's not the reason he stunk... the whole offense stunk. The OL wasn't ready. Rham did nothing in those first 3 series.
Bottom line - Mac was rusty, as expected, and it was going to take more than 9 plays for him to get back in the flow.
But no way around this - the coaches totally blew this game and situation.
Mac better start, and be named the starter going forward.
My only hope is that they let Zappe be brought down to earth so the team's (and fan base's) allegiance and heart would get behind Mac as the underdog. Problem is, did you damage his confidence too much?

I was listening to the post game show with John Zannis on YouTube and he presented a stats that opened my eyes.

He said that going from 2019 and after yesterday game, the patriots are 2-17 when the defense allows 24+ points.

If MJ is healthy, this should be another easy win. He owns that franchise, and our defense owns Zach Wilson.

I like it better when we're on the road anyway. Those ungrateful ho's at Gillette are unable to appreciate greatness.

I'm going to start a petition for the Patriots to play every game at the opposing teams venue.

Really, what about that performance made you feel like Mac is going to be the starter?

Going 2-0 is considered "owning"?

lol Jim, very true. Haven't been this down/disappointed after a loss in a long time. Wish the Jet game was today. lol

Expect a bounce back from this team though, that was by far our worst performance of the year.

I have no inside information here, just a hunch.
He better not be, the dude is playing like hot garbage and has been all year. Zappe immediately came in and energized that offense. Maybe it was too much to ask a rookie to shoulder the game and go for the come behind win.
