Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Leftwich wasn't the one giving up the 3rd and longs to Trubisky.
I've been arguing with folks here about this so much that my fingers have become shorter. It's isn't the coaches who make the plays, it's the players. It isn't the coaches who drop passes and fumble the ball, it's the players. Of course there may be cases where a coach makes a move that may result in a loss, but in the long run it's about the players, not the coaches.

No mainly run plays. Drop from Otton but then run plays mainly.

Was weird
I like the running game, so maybe I'm a bit biased.

In the action that I did see yesterday it seemed like teams (not including the Pats) would run it to near the goal line and then look to pass on almost every down.

I don’t think you are. I’m Brady’s biggest homer but it was a very frustrating game from him. Yes his o-line not great, yes his defense should not have given up all those 3rd and long plays.

But he was less than what he should have been today - so many throws hitting the dirt in the first half.

Lucky for him outside of the NFC east and Viking everyone else 3-3
The NFCE is benefitting from playing the AFCS, the weakest division in the AFC. After their bye this week Philly will play Pit, Hou, Was, Ind, GB, Tenn, NYG, Chi, Dal, NO and NYG with the games in bold at home. It isn't a stretch to think that they COULD go 17-0.

Is it me or has the level of play in the NYFL fallen off? It sure seems like there are more crap teams and poor coaches than ever. The officiating is also very questionable.

The game plan to keep on running on 1st down was the #1 reason the Bucs lost. I kept on expecting them to go pass 1st when it wasn't working but these coaches don't adjust.

Taken from Joebucsfan below
"The Bucs have the worst run game in the NFL. That is not hyperbole. That is fact. The Steelers’ strength on defense, with T.J. Watt out, with Minkah Fitzpatrick out, with their top three corners out was the run defense.

So what does the head coaching candidate Leftwich do? He runs. And runs. And runs some more.

If Leftwich really doesn’t believe defenses are waiting with bated breath for Playoff Lenny to run up the middle or to the left on first down, then Leftwich is significantly more naive than Joe thought."
That's the opposite of what took place in the SB of 2011 when the Pats insisted on passing against the poor run defense of the Giants.

This explains a lot of what happened in the first half. The Steelers went completely off their usual gameplan they historically use against Brady. Except 2011 iirc.

Kills me to say it but Squealers out coached (and obviously out played) the Bucs.

The parallels to the 2011 game are really obvious. The Steelers defense, who Brady had absolutely humiliated year after year, completely switched up their gameplan to only rush 3 or 4 and it flummoxed what was in my books the 2nd best Pats offense ever (first is 2007). Down 23-10 until a TD with 2 minutes to go brought the score to a more respectable looking 23-17.

So I guess all those extra defenders were the reason why the Bucs didn't want to pass downfield and chose to keep on running it on 1st downs and short yardage. It didn't work. What they should have done was alot more short passing to the rbs on the flat. They were 9 of 10 on those passes and got their only Td.

Yes there should have been better and more timely adjustments made. No doubt. But it does reveal that all the “why not just throw deep to Evans every play!?” is dumb.

Time to dust off the panic button. That performance yesterday was an embarrassment. You simply cannot lose to a bad team with a bad quarterback. This opens up the possibility of losing to anyone on their schedule. I'm not taking next weekend for granted and I think very little of that Panthers team.

A few observations at this point...

I think the team may actually miss Arians. My opinion of Bowles as a HC was pretty low and he's done nothing so far to change my mind. The team looks unprepared, undisciplined and sloppy. Yesterday was a coaching disaster across the board. Really bad.

The running game sucks and I can't stomach another failed 3rd-and-1. Pretty much a disaster on every short yardage running play. The o-line sucks in these situations?... I don't know but they should just start passing the ball on all of these downs.

WTF is with the red zone? This is their biggest problem on offense. Just can't convert red zone opportunities with any regularity. Obviously they have to figure this out and with this one I'm confident they will.

Brady needs to be more productive. Obviously the TDs are way down. He looks fine, his movement, his arm, etc. so there's nothing obviously wrong. Just get the ball in f*cking end zone!

The defense was a f*cking joke against Trubisky... ************ that can't happen. Big third down conversions over and over and over... completely brutal.

I am thinking that too.

Oh so this is Mac10’s other account.
Well, I don't know Mac10 but I do know it's not pretty watching Tom Brady become a has-been hanger-on. I understand that he had to leave the Patriots and I'm glad he got another ring but it's time for him to stop embarrassing himself and get another occupation.

Apparently Gronk is a bit smarter than Brady.

Honestly the D is fine and will be fine. They missed SMB, Ryan and Hicks and I think those are important pieces.

They are 7th in yds/g and 5th in pts/g. Right now it’s the offense that is not holding their end of the bargain.

When you average 17.2 pts allowed per game you should win most games. Why they don’t? Because the offense doesn’t score.

There was multiple time where the D gave the ball back to the offense just for the offense to go 3 and out right after. So we can sit here and cry about the D giving up 3rd & long on the last two drives but this game shouldn’t have come to a stop on the last drive.

I think he gets a lot of undeserved criticism sometimes, but today was as bad as it gets. The other teams top 3 corners are out. They should've passed, passed, passed until they stopped it. I'm assuming the Oline had a lot to do with it though and QB play was off today too
Brady was 10 for 21 at one point.

Something is off with the offense

Statistically, the Steelers didn't outplay Tampa. TB had more first downs, more yards and more trips to the red zone.

The difference is Pittsburgh finished their drives where Tampa Bay didn't. Tampa moved the ball pretty well between the 20's, but that just won't cut it.

Statistics don't win football games. Key plays in critical situations do.

That's been the theme all year with the Bucs.

They get to the Redzone then the offense stalls

Embarrassing himself? He’s settled for way too many field goals and that is a good deal on him but is 4th in yards and has thrown only ONE pick all season. Wanna know what “has been” looks like?

The defense sucked against KC and yesterday against GD Trubisky. They get the ball back in Brady's hands one more time and the Bucs win that game.

But overall I agree the offense needs to be way more productive. Their rankings are a freaking joke considering their roster. Brady and the passing game need to pick it up, especially in the red zone. I have no confidence in the run game moving forward.

Don't be such a tool. Brady easily could have won league MVP last season. They're going to win their division and they should have a deep playoff run. Brady will have solid numbers by the end of the season. It's amazing how many times Brady haters have had him buried and he just keeps burning your *sses.
