Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

I had to look it up. The Steelers are on pace to have their worst season since 1969 if they finish with under 5 wins.

Maybe.
Bucs have been really inconsistent through 5 weeks. I wouldn't be shocked if the Steelers make it a game
I would be. Steelers have the look of a really bad football team.

Despite still not scoring enough, there were some encouraging signs with the passing offense this weekend. Rachaad White looks like he can contribute. Same with Cade Otton. Miller finally looked decent... Brady also missed him on a couple of deep balls. Gage looked more fluid with his route running. Pass protection was solid. Provided Evans and Godwin stay healthy, they'll have a top 3 passing offense. Their next three opponents (Pittsburgh, Carolina and Baltimore) all have weak pass defenses too.

Why do you think there has been such a decline in play this year? It really has been awful across the league.

I'd start here:

  1. The new offseason/exhibition season, where I think a lot of teams are trying to figure out how to handle the absence of that fourth game
  2. The severe limitations on what offseason practices can be like, especially in terms of hitting/tackling
  3. The recent push, led by what I think is the fool's gold of McVeigh's early success, towards all but benching a lot of starters during all the exhibition games

Maybe.

If they can keep the WRs healthy, and they don't lose any more OL, the consistency should come. They've also lost to Green Bay and KC, as opposed to losing to the likes of the 2022 Steelers and Panthers. So they should head into the Baltimore game at 5-2.

Shaq Mason is still doing Shaq Mason things:

All-22 for Bucs-Falcons is up on NFL+ on a Tuesday morning, which is great. Here's Shaq Mason and Ko Kieft opening a nice lane for Leonard Fournette on second play of game for a 14-yard gain.

Attention Mike Florio:

Brady had one roughing passer penalty called with him at QB in 2021, none in 2019. He ranks 16th since 2020 in roughing the passer penalties. Since 2010, roughing the passer penalties have been called 2.1 percent of the times Brady has been sacked.

If you're going to post **** for clicks, at least have something approaching a valid point when you do it.

Bucs indeed have signed OLB Genard Avery from their practice squad to the 53-man roster. He was elevated and played on special teams but has missed the last four games with injury. Had mentioned the possibility of this move Monday.

And days before they go to Pittsburgh, Bucs have signed inside linebacker Ulysees Gilbert to their practice squad. He spent last three years with Pittsburgh, with 15 tackles last season. He's from Ocala originally, was a sixth-round pick out of Akron in 2019.

Seems like Derek Carr thought Brady sucked thus past game and dropped him 6 spots in the offensive rankings.

Tom Brady
Tampa Bay Buccaneers · QB
Brady might not be playing the best football of his career. Or is he? He has seven pass TDs against just one INT this season. The only seasons in his career that he's had a better TD-to-INT ratio were his 2010 MVP season (36:4) and the 2016 Super Bowl-winning season (28:2). OK, so he's not actually at a 2010 or 2016 level right now, but he's finding different ways to win, week in and week out. Sunday against the Falcons, that consisted of throwing the ball 52 times.

But he thinks Rodgers didn't do as bad. He only dropped him by 5. How is he still in the top 10 is what I'm wondering,.. oh he's making excuses see below.

Aaron Rodgers
Green Bay Packers · QB
Rodgers had the Packers cruising in the first half in London, but the offense stalled in the second half and didn't capitalize on the few chances it did have, including on fourth-and-1 with 1:05 left on the clock, when Rodgers' pass was batted down. It's odd watching the Packers' offense be so inconsistent, but like I said in the intro of this article, without a big-time playmaker in Green Bay, this is what we're going to get.

Holy ****! Someone really has Brady listed as far down as the #16 QB in the league right now? How has that person not been fired yet?
That's what happens when they let fantasy football stats do all their analytical work for them.

Want to know something crazy? Brady’s first year with the Bucs, the one where you know he threw for 40 TD passes and then of course won the super bowl? Didn’t even make the Pro Bowl. Russel Wilson and KYLER MURRAY got in over him.

That was way back when Kyler was going to be the next big thing.

Nothing more than an analyst wanna-be making some controversial listings to generate discussion. Sports media is an industry where it is better to have people talk about what an idiot you are than not talk about you at all.

All of Brady's numbers right now are more or less where you'd expect them to be, except for TDs, which is also suppressing his passer rating. I don't think there's any reason to believe he won't eventually finish the season with 35-40 TDs. If Otton continues to develop, and White maintains a role, then they should help to fill out the passing game, with of course the depth at WR. Brady also has a 5 TD game coming against one of these weaker pass defenses they're facing.
