Do you believe we will be a super bowl contender with Mac?

Zappe has done well but let's not go overboard. Couldn't get 5 yards to beat the Packers in OT and 188 yards and 1td against the worst defense in the league. Those aren't "OMG bench Mac!" Numbers. He's don't more than what's been asked of him as a rookie. But there is no controversy yet.

Now, it's hard to say if Mac is or isn't the guy. But people are quick to jump off the wagon. He has struggled this year, yes. But new offensive scheme, poor OL play, no run game plagued the team in the first few weeks.

Seems the last two games the Patriots have gotten back to what they do well, run the ball play tight defense, play action passes. Also the OL has settled in. Let's see how Mac does with this team of they continue to play this way. I'd say it will be much better improvement.
Well IF Zappe duplicates his performance by playing mistake free and we get another win I am sure even You might start saying Hmmmm.

Any chance Zappe's selection impacted Mac this off season and into the season? Maybe a confidence shaking move? You enter the off season thinking you are the guy and they go and use a 4th on a QB? WTF moment. I was pissed off with the pick at the time.

I don't buy that. Mac should welcome competition and had to compete all through college. Plus, I bet you're not po'd with the pick now, right?

I agree.

Also, if Jones can't handle Belichick drafting a potential backup QB, then he's not our future quarterback.

The bottom line is that we needed (and need) and better backup than Hoyer.

Tom E Curran disagrees.

It depends what zappe does. if he throws 300 yards 3tds on the browns sure. if it's 188 yards, 1td and the running game/defense Carry the team, no. Don't get me wrong. I like what zappe has done. But people are conflating his performance as if he was josh Allen throwing bombs down the field.

Now, when max comes back, if it's still a pick barrage and team is losing then we may have a different story. I still think the offense/OL has also settled down abit. And I expect the team may reel Mac in Abit.

Dan Orlovsky from ESPN was on Merloni, Fauria & Mego today and he was asked for his thoughts on the QB situation in New England. Here are some quotes/notes from his interview:
  • He believes that Zappe did a great job of not losing the game for the Patriots. He also says that he watched tape and Zappe only really had to make one "NFL throw"(the TD pass to Jakobi). Meaning, the rest of his throws were screens, dump offs, or just hitting his first read quickly.
  • He had some high praise of the 2 guards in New England (Onwenu & Strange):
"I've talked this for a few weeks now... Inside, their two guards, is as good as anyone's in the league"
  • When asked about Bill not declaring Mac the starter in his press conference today:
"Listen, I will be very clear. There is absolutely no shot that Bailey Zappe even sniffs becoming the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots as long as Mac Jones is on the team. That is not a knock to Bailey Zappe. But Mac Jones has the chance to be a very very good longterm NFL pro, and he's proven it."
  • "Coach Belichick knows football better than anybody in the history of the planet. I don't think he's sitting there going, 'Well, we played good one game against a team that, right now, is the softest defense in the NFL in Green Bay. And then we played solid offensively against a team that had given up more points and yards than anybody in the NFL. Great. We've got a superstar at quarterback'."
  • "There's no reality here that makes Bailey Zappe a threat, or potential person, to unseat Mac Jones"
  • "Mac plays significantly faster both physically and mentally. Mac can cancel out things pre-snap in such a short amount of time. He has a way quicker delivery. His ball placement is significantly better... His ability to diagnose post snap movement and coverage... He's elite at this stuff. He's not good at it, he's ELITE at it."
  • "While Bailey might do a couple of those things well, or good, certainly in the short body of work that we have of him, we've got a year in the NFL and 2+ years in college of watching Mac do this stuff... there's a reason one was a 1st round pick and one was a... 4th round pick."
  • "There's so much physically and mentally that Mac does consistently, at a significantly higher level, than Bailey does"

If Zappe keeps playing good and winning, Mac wont be smoking cigars in the locker room any time soon.

Blaming Patricia and the OL for his failures wont work anymore.
