Belichick: September may be an extended pre-season for Patriots

Yeah, Ted's personal hatred of BB is obvious. Then he tries to separate that from acknowledgement of BB's superior coaching ability and it can get confusing, especially when he criticizes where the team is at overall.

You're right about needed perspective not being there. Although, I tend to trust Greg Bedard's takes more than not and he has painted a pretty sad picture overall.
Bedard is a blow hard. He's made of bullsh*t and donuts

Something happened with Bedard, either BB did something to piss him off personally, or maybe it's just he needs to keep BSJ afloat and he's come to the conclusion the Felger route is the best way to accomplish that. Because he is REALLY running an agenda this year.

Every time I've listened to him it's been incompetent analysis and making something out of nothing

Of course this is what he said.

"We'll deal with that later. I think a lot of veteran players are aware of it. I've heard a lot of people comment on it. September is an extension of the preseason for your team, developing your team. I think there's some truth to that.
"But games start now so it's important to be competitive."

Bill Belichick says he “thinks there’s some truth” to September being an extension of the preseason.

complete bs, the games in September count just as much as the games in December.
They should strive to win as many games as possible once the regular season starts

IMO, there are two ways to take what BB said has "some truth":
1) In September, players and coaches are still learning their roles, just like in preseason
2) In September, wins do not matter, just like in preseason

Why in heck did you chose to go with the second choice ???

I've never seen BB say "this game does not count".

By my own observations, he tends to puff up games many fans feel are meaningless.

Looks like Evan Lazar successfully triggered a whole bunch of people.

He used one of the oldest tricks in the book, selective quoting.

If he keeps this up, some day he'll make the Trolling Hall of Fame, alongside charter members Felger and Mazz.

This argument is truly worthy of Felger.
Not really sure what you're getting at. I dont listen to Boston sports media. Haven't lived there in 23 years

I'm saying that the argument that Bill doesn't think the first four games are important based on that statement of his is an argument worthy of Felger.

Been doing that for 20+ years.
except they still won 67% of their games in September during the dynasty. And always had that chess piece to lean on, easing your way into the year with a relatively mediocre team is potentially giving away games theyll need by the end of the year

You honestly think BB is just easing his way into the season and not trying to get his team ready? His next line was "But games start now so it's important to be competitive." Hell, he's taking the team down to Miami early to get acclimated for the very first game that according to his detractors, he just sees as a meaningless preseason game.

I know people are unhappy with BB because of X, Y, or Z, which is fine. But now we're just making up obviously ridiculous reasons to be mad at him.

I dont think easing your way into the year and not trying to get his team ready are the same thing. And Im not mad at anybody, this was kind of a weird response

Did they already lose all three of their September games?

I'm just not sure what you mean by "easing your way into the year" then. It seems like if you're getting your team ready and trying to be competitive then you're not really easing your way in.

Do you think its a coincidence that September had the lowest winning % by month during the Patriots dynasty?

Even is that is true and even its potentially intentional (for possibly several reasons) and even if it is true for just the patriots and no other team (and it would be good to compare) are you or were you unhappy with the final results?

The Patriots have had a sub .500 record in their first 4 games of the season in just in 2 of their last 20 seasons. Both of those 2 times they still made the playoffs and one of them they won it all. The idea that they're a slow starter is more reputation than reality IMO.

Once again, facts suck for people

Sure, like I said...In the past they could always lean on Brady. Last year they certainly did, do you think that helps the margin of error? Needing to come back from 2-4?

You Keep saying Facts suck, then admit my facts were right. I never said they were bad in September, I said historically they won at a lower clip in September then any other month. That is a fact
