We are on to Miami: Official week 1 pregame thread

Jonathan Jones has usually covered Hill and done a good job. He's got the speed & quickness to hang with both.
I don't know who else can. Mills is our 2nd best cb but don't think he can cover either of these 1:1. The 2 rookie Joneses have speed but are obviously rooks, and would get toasted by either.
Will be interesting to see what Belichick does.
See, I think it will be the other way around - Mills on Hill with McCourty aligned deep, shaded to his side. Jones on Waddle with intermittent safety help if we are in man. Whoever is on Hill should take inside leverage whether in man or zone as Miami will probably start off by trying to get him the ball in space.

If I had to bet, we are gonna see a lot more zone than Man C

Wasnt this the point of getting these lbers and safeties?
Agreed; however, Tua may very well eat a zone defense up.

Mills is crafty. He's a good all around cb. Just isn't a burner but what you proposed could happen. Jones has covered Hill a few times w/o safety help and as I recall did alright.I think Hill is the tougher cover of the 2 since Waddle is a lot newer to the nfl. Hasn't maxed his talent yet. Will be scary as hell when he does. I dont think much of Tua but with all these weapons he should be able to do some damage

So we don't win the division - who cares? This team will win its 7th Lombardi trophy. No one around here cares about worthless division titles. The millions of division titles we've won are probably located in the trash can at Gillette.

Belichick cares a lot about division titles.

I just watched some offensive highlights of Miami's last preseason game and did not like what I watched.

Tua looked like he always does early in the season. Really good. The Dolphins were throwing all over the field and not to just Waddle and Hill. Though Hill caught his fair share as he was hard to cover. Their offense was in rhythm and looked sharp vs backup players or not.

The GDT could be closed down mid game.

Annual reminder that week 1 is weird. Chances are the things we think will go well may go poorly and vice versa. Hopefully we pull out an ugly (probably) win, but week 1 won't be any real indication of what's to come beyond it either way.

Miami has no running game other than Tua.
So with a bunch of speedy receivers and a running qb I'd expect Pats to be in dime most of this game. Plus Wilson as one of the 2 lbs for more speed and coverage.
JoJones,Mills,MJones,DMac,Dugger,Phillips all on the field together. Speed but also a lot of hard-hitting tacklers. Just dare Fish to run. I expect Tua will have some success but I think it's a typical close, ugly game.

The 2.5 point spread agrees with you.

I just believe that Tua and Hill want to show the world how the 2022 Phins are different and post season bound

Money can be made as Vegas can really get some spreads wrong the first few games in the NFL season.

It doesnt take them very long to dial the betting in almost exact.

Going to be a busy next few days: Here is today's schedule:

Oh wow if Tua wants to show the world they are post-season bound then that means we are in deep doo-doo.

Whats with the fear of Tua? It's making you delusional.

In 2020 he didn't play until late Oct.

In 2021 he played us Week 1 and scored 17 points. Then week 2 he got hurt vs BUF and missed the next 3 weeks.

Tua is a mental and physical midget. His 50 yards passing that he has averaged against the Patriots in his career and the 50 yards he will pass for in week 1, won't matter.

If the Patriots lose this game, it will be because it's just an extension of the preseason. They will **** around for the first 4 weeks, experimenting with more zone blocking against actual starters to see if they can make it a bigger part of the offense going forward.

Dynasties only start trying from October on.

I wonder when they start their cuts? Why practice with 80 guys today and take away reps from the guys that will be on the team?

Edit: I just saw where the Bills cut 6 players and are doing it in increments. Maybe we'll do that as well. Some players will be a no brainer and can be done sooner rather than later like Wyndermyer, Wieland, Hawkins etc.
