No, because the schools are simply raising tuition as a response. The more money government gives to students, the more colleges raise their tuition, thereby making the problem worse.

You have to go to trial to be put in prison.

DA will often indict a criminal on a lesser charge while investigating a larger charge. Extremely common.

Or the DA uses the threat of a greater charge (which is much more difficult to prove) to negotiate a plea for the lesser charge.

Either way, this is #1 reason I'm for bail reform, but here bail for a top term sentence of 3 years in that county is $20k. I'm guessing $2k is doable for this kid.

Is an 18 year old guy who has consensual sex with his 17 year old, long time girlfriend, guilty of the same charge as a 30 year old having "consensual" sex with a 16 year old? It varies from state to state. In the state of CA, there are 3 levels. Araiza fits in the middle:

1) Adult has sex with minor, but they are within 3 years of each others’ age. Misdemeanor. And yes, it seems that in CA an 18 year old having sex with his long time 17 year old girlfriend fits in this category.

2) Adult has sex with minor with greater than 3 years difference, but minor is at least 16 years old. Misdemeanor or felony.

3) Adult greater than 21 has sex with minor less than 16. Felony.

Innocent until proven guilty > guilty until proven innocent. Absolutely nobody has defended the kid in this thread. The allegations sound horrible. The reality is that, unfortunately, too many women in too many high profile cases have cried wolf on something like this over the years. Women should not automatically be believed just because they say something happened.

That's only in the court of law..not the court of public opinion. Nothing says people can't have an opinion on what happened unless someone is charged criminally.

In that case bill Cosby and OJ Simpson are innocent because they are free men. When we all know they did what they did.

There is more smoke here and with deshan Watson that would say they are guilty than not whether they are charged...I mean both admitted to having sex with the women who charged them.

I'm in San Diego for a conference and it is the lead story on the news. Students are pi**ed that the school hid it so they could focus on their brand new $300 million stadium.
If she was so drunk she couldn't consent, he is in trouble as he should be...... Curious why no criminal charges unless they too were trying to sweep it under the rug also and the light shined on it now will get them to refocus.

I'll say it again since you're not getting it. I've wanted players cut for much, much less than what we already know about him. Before insulting people, think about 22 year olds admitting to sleeping with drunk 17 year olds and knowingly giving them STDs.

He wasn’t 22 and we have no idea if he knew he had an STD when he had relations with her. He very well may have tested positive some time after that. We just don’t know yet.

As for his age, he was a college senior, more than 5 years older than a minor.
