PFT: Belichick sees Dramatic Improvement in Mac

And some around the league seem to disagree with you. I don’t think he’s solely responsible but $10 mill a year for a guy who PFF has as the 42nd ranked interior lineman isn’t exactly a steal.

NFL Exec Indicates Patriots Overpaid On Reported Davon Godchaux Extension
Lol

"Godchaux during his first year in New England started 16 of 17 games, recording one sack, two tackles for loss and five quarterback hits to go along with 65 tackles. New England ranked 25th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per attempt and 22nd in rushing yards allowed. He has four total sacks in his five seasons in the league, the first four of which came with the Miami Dolphins."

Lol, he's said the same exact thing about Mac & Nixon. He must've gotten his notes mixed up. Maybe Bill is losing it.

It’s a joke. The poster copied the jones comment and says it was about Godchaux
Maybe you are losing it.

No, but it sure as hell means that he is much more equipped to evaluate the position and his players in particular, when compared to the imbeciles who are so sure of their opinions on this site, despite not having the foggiest idea of how to evaluate the position based upon game film, let alone the TV feed, or what a D-lineman’s exact role is on most of the defensive snaps.
I think nobody argues that but Fans obviously can criticize positive or negative an extension for a Player they have their opinion about, Forum is about discussing pats decisions and finally we get decisions to discuss about and sone TC

By my calculations, this gives us 3 mil of cap room.

And if BB likes him that much…good to lock him in for the next three seasons at 9mil per.

PFF itself says that rating needs some context. They loved his work against the run over the second half of the season. I remember seeing some variation of this post at the time and thinking how fascinating it was Godchaux's ratings were actually highest in some of the worst games for the run defense as a whole unit. In addition to his famous Buffalo wind game performance, his other two appearances in the Patriots’ top 5 PFF grades were against the Titans (270 rushing yards allowed) and Dolphins (195). (Bentley graded out even better in those two games, for that matter.)

How is that possible? Serious Question

no hand holding this year for mac

Why not? He's a second-year player at the most complex, demanding position in the game of football, in a relatively complex offensive system. I hope he receives support from everyone who can help make him better; if that's "hand-holding", so be it. I want the GOAT football coach/mind intimately involved with the development of Mac (or any young quarterback), absolutely.

I'd phrase it like this: "I want Mac to take more autonomy/agency of the offense this year". Just my two cents.

Godchaux was tying up blockers for the LBs to make plays on a lot of running downs and the LBs failed.
I'd counter it was a bit of both. Godchaux isn't a consistent "occupy two guys" fully freeing the LBs to pursue at speed, but at the same time last year's LBs couldn't even shed TEs/WRs blocking or hold an edge. It was bad team run defense all around.

Yeah, but unless you are an elite or at least a top tier NT, odds are you are not consistently occupying two guys. And if Godchaux was an elite or top tier NT, he would have likely gotten a deal that was closer to $20 million a year. But we saw LBs who were in spaces where they never engaged a blocker be a day late and dollar short of being able to get to the RB.

I am not trying to defend Godchaux here, but I think blaming him for the LBs speed last year is recreating history. The LBs were just god awful slow. There is a reason why Hightower is still a street free agent. Hell, even when Hightower and Van Noy were in their peak form, they were slow for today's NFL but could make up for it with their other skill sets and the Patriots scheme.

How is a 26 yo different than a 40 yo? I mean in a lot of ways.
You used a generational stereotype to make a point when it's really more about the individual's own sense of self and how established they are in their careers.

I think that determines what they put up with from their coaches.

Tom had enough of Bill.

Tua is an entitled punk.

Allen had 26 TD’s and 9 INT’s in 2019 before Diggs became a Bill and Allen had already played in a playoff game where he had nearly 400 yards by himself (again, before Diggs became a Bill).

Allen was well on his way before Diggs.

In 2019, the Bills were 25th in passing yards, 31st in completion percentage and 19th in yards per pass. Yes, I know that Matt Barkley played two of those games, but his numbers in these stats weren't much different than Allen's. I just used team stats because individual QB rankings drives Allen down since there are other QBs higher than him that played a half a season or less.

But as for individual stats, Allen had a very mediocre 58.8% completion percentage, 6.7 yards per pass, and 193.1 YPG. His QB rating was 85.3. Just to compare, last year he completed 63.3% completion rating, 6.8 YPP, and 259.2 YPG with a QB rating 92.2 QB rating.

And unlike a lot of other people, I think Allen's year last year was overrated. He was inconsistent. That is why from mid-October to mid-December the Bills went 3-5. When he was on, he is as good as or better than any other QB in the league. But he had more than a few awful and/or subpar games like his three INT, no TD game vs. the Falcons or his two INT and no TD game vs the Jags.

He played a lot better in the 2nd half of the season once he was fully embedded in the system

This was an interesting tidbit dropped (as a theory) by Miguel yesterday on his livestream... Godchaux didn't achieve his playing time incentives last year ... Iirc pfr said he played in 59.2% of the defensive snaps, I am conjecturing here, the incentive to hit was probably 60% or slightly more ... Miguel said that it's possible that BB bumped the salary in the extension to make up for that missed incentive ...

Not that it matters a whole hell of a lot, but it's something I can see BB doing for a mid tier player like Godchaux if he played and practiced at or above team expectations...

Guess we will know more when the non-scheftered numbers come out in a day or two...

Well a lot of those numbers came from long runs when he wasn’t on the field, or nowhere near the point of attack.
on the long run in the third quarter which luckily ended with a fumble forced by a DB he and Davis were on the field. Their back up running backs killed us (Titans) and miami had one of the worst o lines last season but still managed almost 200 yards on the ground against us. That's just bad football by our front 6
