Yeah I get it Agholor is untradeable lets hope he duplicates his Raider year in 2022.
I wouldn’t say that, if other WRs look good and there’s a bit of a logjam at the position and another team sustains injuries and needs a decent WR for one year, and Bill feels he doesn’t need Agholor, he might flip him for a low round pick just to gain $10M and also solve his logjam. I don’t think that will happen though.

That's definitely a possibility I think there is more to Agholor's game I think he can be very effective in the slot better than Meyers. I think Agholor plays up to that cap number in 2022.

Haha. After you wrote a very long post (which seems to be common for you ) I thought I would find a reason for you to re-write it. I was kidding, but tried to make it sound believable.

Huh? We'd recover $9.9M if we can find a trade partner. Why is he untradeable? Because of his contract? I wouldn't think so, though $10M for his production is an issue.

So, I flopped them, & its 5M dead cap, 10M savings
Yep, that changes stuff. I'd venture to say if you're offering a 2 , you can take him home today, with three guys on staff that showed better production and several binkies clamoring for a chance.

Somebody was saying to ditch him AND Meyers, and I guess that's just the youth/speed movement talking.

I DO like having the so-far reliable guys stick (Bourne and Meyers). Let me flip flop on Agholor, I GUESSS depending what a suitor offers, he's available today... or if he stinks up camp and some of the binkies are coming along, we can throwaway-trade him closer to end of camp.

So Bourne, Meyers, Parker, Thornton (new toy must keep), binkie 1, binkie 2, with the Agholor trade.

Oh crap I forgot Ty Montgomery is in there too, vying for one of the 2 competitive positions

Ok, convinced

You forgot to factor in what draft pick we would get if we traded Agholor and Meyers. If we save $5M in cap space AND get a 2nd round pick in a trade for Agholor, Thornton needs to step up fast. Please redo your analysis AND include the draft pick considerations.
Why would he redo his analysis? We are NOT getting a 2nd in trade for any of our receivers.

Nobody said “to ditch him AND Meyers,” they said if Nixon, Thornton and Wilkerson look great then the obvious move was to move on from those two… especially if contract talks with Meyers have stalled.

The cap savings for Agholor makes perfect sense, and while I like both players Meyers is easily replaceable… especially if he thinks he’s worth more than the team does.

The trade return for Agholor wouldn’t be great because you’re asking another team to absorb that contract right before the season begins… but you might get something for him. The motive is cap space and having two players on rookie deals who are substantially cheaper who can do the same job.

So, if Nixon, Thornton and Wilkerson look great in preseason games, then it is obvious to move on from Agholor or Myers.

Sure! And the odds against the three playing enough against the #1's to convince anyone that they are all great is about one in a million.5 Thornton and Parker will get the opportunities on the outside. Nixon and Wilkerson may get enough reps to prepare them for another year on the Practice Squad.
============
The issue is what to do if Thronton and Parker look great. With Bourne as the 3rd lock and the 2 TE's, what else does the team want for 2022? For me, the place for players like Nixon and Wilkerson is the Practice Squad. For, there is little incentive to trade Agholor or Myers, unless one is extended and the other is deemed to have little value as a one year player at WR5.

I suppose the issue is how many receiving reps are there.
1) If Thornton is an OK #3 or #4, then we have at least 4 at WR. 4 is plenty if all are healthy.
2) Henry and Smith are 2 top targets. Smith is surely good enough to be the one of 7 targets.
3) As always, at least one of our RB will be among the top targets.

TARGETS
4 WR's
2 TE's
1 RB

I suppose that it is reasonable to have a backup in each group, in addition to having STer Montgomery.. The open question is whether we have at least one WR on the Practice Squad that is good enough to play if there are a couple of injuries. I submit that we always have such a player. If BOTH Nixon and Wilkerson were picked up by other teams, then we would need to acquire another WR or 2 for the Practice Squad, or even for the 53.

ONE ALTERNATIVE is to have Myers or Agholor as the 5th WR.
ANOTHER is to have Nixon or Wilkerson.

Personally, I would prefer to have veteran experience in a backup position. To put in another way, I would rather count on Myers or Agholor for a game or two (or a play or two) than depend on Nixon or Wilkerson.
======================================
OF COURSE, someone will likely be injured in camp or the preseason and the 4 WR's will be set.

Wilkerson earned playing time at the end of last season by improving his hands presumably, but also showing up as a gunner in kick coverage. He has already earned reps if his level of play stays the same or improves.

Nixon is in year two. I don’t think much or anything of OTA superlatives but if he looks as good with pads on as he did in shorts and tees then there is a conversation to be had.

Parker is going to start from day one if healthy, he is a known commodity at this point, I don’t know why he’s part of this conversation.

Thornton is the longshot as a rookie, but we listen so much to the negative types that we start to believe the Pats ability to find a talented WR is one in a million. I like the look of Thornton, he’s tall long explosive and stupid fast.

Lol ****, forgot about Parker. I'm stumped then
That’s why Agholor is potential trade bait. If they could find a trade partner for Harry it seems likely Agholor would have some team willing to trade for him.

Yeah, lets see how Nixon shapes up in training camp. If he looks awesome, then I'm good with either an Agholor trade or depending on how long it takes Thornton to pick up the offense, sending him to PS and keeping Agamemnon

Agreed. Please see my update on the previous page and the response above and my response above.

83 catches Meyers had last year, he's Jules 2. He has to stay.

Comparing him to Jules is an insult to Jules. With that being said, he's accomplished a lot given he was an UDFA. He'll get paid a decent contract from someone next season.

Yeah, Agholor doesn't need to be a one-trick pony. I'm curious if they try to use him more diverse ways in camp and see how he does. It'll be interesting to see which of Agholor and Meyers are still here next year - I highly doubt both are, and maybe neither are.

Thornton would never make it to the practice squad.

Getting back 5M against the cap is nice... getting back 10M, as we say in Washington (if you're talking 100B and up,) "is starting to get into real money.") Wait, Agamemnon?

I hate cap talk. Try this out.
Mac got 3rd and 15 4th qtr behind by 7 30 sec left. He goes to:
1. Bourne
2. Myers
3. Hunter
Fill the rest for Roster spots that Mac will trust.
How about 4th and 15. Binkie? Role player?
30 seconds left? Where are we on the field? This pretend scenario doesn't really paint a picture. Are we at the goaline? Are we on our own 1...this matters ALOT.

Not sure what that has to do with WR depth.

If we're at the 1 I could care less if it's Dalton Keene taking a draw. Bang it in there behind Strange or Owenu and Brown.

If we're in our own red zone..I'd want Jonnu/Thorton/Agholor/Strong with the ball in their hands. The guys with athleticism/speed to go 60+ to the house in 1 play.
