Do you feel that this was the right call and that we maximized our opportunities?
Seriously.... They are trolling us big time...
Me looking at the other 31 picks in the first round.......View attachment 42786
They didn't even save much money. The 29th pick is slated to make between $2mill-$2.5 mill this season and Karras walked for $5 mill. And not resigning Karras most importantly. I can understand trading Mason if you want to put Onwenu a RG. But the Karras thing was a fiasco
Even if he is all pro, drafting a guard in first round is a reach . Like drafting a Rab in round 1 these days .A lot of folks are pretty sure here that this guy is a bust. I figure we should let him play first before we fire the coach.
Appreciate the compliment anyways. This has to be one of your worst takes EVER.
This defense is no where close to being what will go into camp with, let alone the first game of the season. For you to make this take is dcownright laughable. I expect this sort of BS from Capt Stone, Patsfan2 and DKF. Not you. You trypically have a head on your shoulders, know your football, and don't over-react.
Some players work out and some don't. That's just the way it is for the draft. Here's the thread for when Thuney was drafted. It's a funny read, because pretty much all of the same complaints and arguments are made there as are being made here. Thuney ended up being pretty good, at least in my opinion! Seemed like the Pats knew what they were doing.

they would have needed to spend draft capital to move way up in the 2nd to even have a shot to get him.......8 teams with G need between 29 & 54, he was next guard off the boardNo one's saying he's a bust. Everyone's saying he's over-drafted for a position that could have been addressed later in the draft. I'm sure Cole will be fine but we had two fine G's that Bill either traded or let walk.
Not too mention it was bottom of the first round. It's not like they took the guy with the 5th pick in the 1st round.I was listening to Dane Brugler on the Athletic podcast and he loves the pick and the player. Obviously he thinks its a slight reach too but it's made me feel a bit better. Most teams had a 2nd round grade on him apparently so it's not quite a Jordan Richards style pick. The one thing I'm clinging to is that teams undervalued the tape because of the level of competition. He's at least uber athletic.
Sorry the joke was good, but just not in the mood to stomach it... Bill Really killed the freaking draft week with this pick...(some humor)
possibly how things went down...
BB in the war room with scouting team. Kraft down in Florida. BB on phone with Kraft
BB trades back from 21....29 comes up and he doesnt love anything.
BB: "Bob...we have OL as a need but really only have Cole at the top of our board. im sure we can get him later...."
(some background noise)
Kraft : ".....oh baby, im feeling something Strange right now..."
BB: "Bob?...really?"
(some background noise)
Kraft : "..yeah honey....69, yess...now"
BB : "ok its your team i guess..."
BB "guys the boss wants Cole Strange now I guess. get the pick in"
Kraft :" sorry Bill....i was just, ummmm, finishing something up with....so where are we"....
A few years ago McVay was kissing up to Belichick about how great he is, and after winning the SB he thinks he's all that...
And what every one is saying is that a G should not have mattered more. The G position will not be the difference between a SB or not. Lacking top end talent on the defensive side of the ball will on the other end.they would have needed to spend draft capital to move way up in the 2nd to even have a shot to get him.......8 teams with G need between 29 & 54, he was next guard off the board
could they have gotten A guard later on, yes........but not THIS guard......and clearly THIS guard mattered on their board
I wouldn’t say that the left guards have been nobodies. They’ve had same darn good left guards. Mankins, Thuney, and Andruzzi were the consistent starters there for most of the last two decades. They’ve had a couple of years with guys filling in at the spot, like Connelly and Mason for a year each. But left guard has been stable.Don't love it at all. We spent the better part of two decades plugging in nobodies at guard and it was never an issue. Now with holes all over the roster we take a guy at a spot where we had two good players that we didn't feel like paying anymore.
