Deebo wants out of SF

If I am Deebo Samuel, I would want out too. He is going into a contract year with a huge uncertainty at QB. Many believe that Trey Lance isn't ready to start. And even if he does start, how good is he going to be his first year considering how raw he was coming into the NFL. The other option are a Jimmy Garoppolo coming off of significant shoulder surgery on his throwing arm or, if they cut or trade Garoppolo, whatever veteran they can find.

Right now, Samuel's value is at an all time high after an All Pro caliber season. Odds are good considering the options at QB, that he will take a step back this year if he stays in San Fran.

On one hand, I love Deebo and I think he'd be amazing in NE. He's an excellent player and an easy guy to root for.

On the other hand, it would be physically painful to give up the amount of draft capital necessary to get him and then also have to pay him a very very very large extension, when you could just... use that draft capital to draft a WR or two for way less money...

It "feels" like the kind of move you want to make while your QB is on a rookie contract, but the WR market is really messed up right now and I kinda just want to avoid it. Would rather sit tight and grab a dude like Moore or Dotson in a 2nd round trade-up, or better, a higher-priority position at 21 and then throw some darts later at a couple upside WRs.

Years I thought this was Dotson, until I googled him.

I just copy/pasted this directly from the AJ Brown thread...

"Not only do you have to trade for AJ Brown Deebo Samuel, but you need to pay him. I know there's a subsection of fans who think football dollars are Monopoly money and the cap doesn't exist... but it does. Look what top WR's are getting paid right now. The way to find an AJ Brown Deebo Samuel is to draft him. I'd love to have him on my team, but WR is one of the least positions of need for the Pat's needs right now."

You weapons crowd insist on getting some WR drafted in 2019 to exercise the demons of N'Keal, try to trade for Marquise Brown. The guy hasn't done much but that's been mostly out of his control. He's small, a deep ball WR and his QB's accuracy is crap, he can't hit the broadside of a barn... Mac could put it right in his hands. You might be able to get him for reasonable trade value, and wouldn't have to pay him as much in a contract.

Otherwise stop pining for other team's most expensive players, it's highly unlikely to happen. Draft one... hell Tre Nixon could develop into one.

Your love for the Patriots just oozes out of every post.
Unlike most, I can impartially analyze how the Patriots behave historically and use that to make rational projections about future transactions.

We don’t know what Deebo’s top priority is, but if his top priority is to get paid as much money as possible right now, then there is no way he comes here. In fact, NE is one of the last teams that would spend valuable draft capital to acquire such a player (nor should they do so).

Tell me where I’m wrong.

Deebo is the only receiver other than Tyreek that I would even consider trading for. Both are the kinds of guys that can lead you to Super Bowl wins.

BB has some serious doubters of late, but trading for a guy that wants way more money and a smaller workload would add me to the "BB is toast" crowd.

this guy has broken several deals before. Unverified but he's not a troll.

Love your draft/players insights but I disagree about this guy. I’d like this Debo report to be legit but IMO he is likely another throw sh*t against the wall and see what sticks “insider”. “I’m told Samuel wants to be used as a pure WR in 2022” comes straight from a Tom Pelissero interview on TV yesterday.

He recently reported that the Colts were finalizing a deal for Jimmy G and there have been several other high profile “done deals” (signings, trades) like that over the past few years that were likely just fabrications.

Rich man’s Mo Chanel.

You mean the defense that was 5-13 under Fisherchick before Brady took over..? Interesting cause and effect logic there….

I never knew the Patriots went 5-13 in a single season...ever.

No, the same defense that was ranked 16th in 2000 and became the 6th ranked defense in 2001, the same year Brady threw for 18 touchdowns and 12 INTs and averaged less than 200 yards/game (1 touchdown, 1 INT, 572 yards in 3 playoff games).

Agreed. At this point our defense isn’t good enough to carry Mac like it did Tommy during the early dynasty years….we need weapons
You mean Mac can't carry a team right now like Brady could. Not Mac's fault obviously but he needs the team to put him in the best position to succeed.

The defense never carried Brady at any time.

They were the 24th ranked pass defense and 19th ranked rush defense against a last place schedule.

I love when whiners think their “clever” nicknames and Eeyore posts somehow elevate them above “most.”

No one expects the Pats to pull a Miami deal and dump that kind of capital. But listening to Kraft, to Groh and watching the league dynamics, we really don’t know what might happen this off-season.

We don’t know what Deebo’s top priority is, but if his top priority is to get paid as much money as possible right now, then there is no way he comes here. In fact, NE is one of the last teams that would spend valuable draft capital to acquire such a player (nor should they do so).

Why would I tell you that you were wrong? Show me where I’ve said anything that disagrees with this.

Maybe we should call Fisherchick (really?) and ask him.

I personally don’t want Deebo at that kind of investment.
If he wants to be a traditional receiver.
This isn’t Davante Adams or Stephon Diggs.
Deebo Samuel is a slightly better Cordarelle Patterson.
Trevon Burks at 21 makes more sense then dumping a ton of assets for Deebo.

Brady in the Playoffs:

2001 - 1 TD, 1 INT, 3 games

2018 - 2 TDs, 3 INTs, 3 games

Moving up for Jameson Williams would be a hell of a lot cheaper than trading for Samuel.

The receivers I would go all in for are Terry Mclauren, and AJ Brown.
Let the Jets overpay for Deebo.
I’m still waving that call Denver about Jeudy flag as well.

Chris Simms, who is an idiot, is speculating that Deebo may not want to live in California.

Chris Simms explained on Thursday’s PFT Live that he poked around yesterday to try to get to the bottom of the situation, and he heard that it may be as simple as Samuel not wanting to live in California.

and the Niners apparently have no interest in trading him. Deebo is an UFA next year, so if do want him, we may have to wait...

I have to ask would you be a Patriots fan if we didn’t have Mac Jones?
He's a Patriots fan. His previous username was TommyBrady12 but he became the Rob Parker of the forum when Brady left it's weird

we just traded for a wr. we're not getting another one.

Brady in the Playoffs:

2001 - 1 TD, 1 INT, 3 games

2018 - 2 TDs, 3 INTs, 3 games
That's not the defense carrying Brady. 2018 Patriots in the playoffs:

Averaging almost 500+ yards of offense and way over 300 passing in the playoffs is in no way the defense carrying Brady. It was a lot closer to the other way around.

Brady also played a lot closer to 2 games in the 2001 playoffs than 3 games, and one of those two in a blizzard. Both times the Patriots had a very good run game and used it. He's never been carried at any time in his career.

THIS is the defense carrying a QB. 2000 Ravens in the playoffs

2019 49ers in the playoffs
