2022 PTP Draft Board / Pats Draft Talk

Hill doesn't think they'll be looking at DL?

That's my first look this draft.

J Johnson, J Davis, Wyatt.

Johnson and Davis are locks to be gone, and Wyatt is a major ?

And parents at least try to please their kids on XMAS, but BB couldn't care less about what draftniks think of his draft.

Thank god for that.

You think Davis makes it to 16? With his incredible combine, I think that's a big question now.
I think so. Most obvious is that teams don’t value the nose like they used to; at least a two gap nose. They make their evaluations mostly off of game tape and Davis’ game tape is that of a pretty strict two gapper. Granted, it’s the best two-gap tape I’ve seen in a very long time, but he’s a two-gap player regardless. Compound that with his weight concerns and the fact that money often makes people complacent. So really you have to look at the schemes on top of the team needs. LA is a scheme fit and team need so that will be in play. Baltimore isn’t necessarily a need but Ozzie Newsome loves players like him. I think Davis will come down to LA, Baltimore, and NE.

Johnson is 254 lbs. Very light for the DL. Big enough for college but is it big enough for the NFL? How do you know he will translate to the NFL? I am sure Johnson will be good but a Top 20 pick should be "can't miss" in my book.
Johnson is 6 lbs lighter than Judon. I gotta imagine after a year in a professional program, he could easily pack that weight on. He looks like he has the frame for it. BGC thinks very highly of him as does pretty much every other draft pundit out there. While typing this, I realized I never saw his pro day numbers and remembered he didn’t do the BP at the combine. Go look it up, he KILLED. He’s even put on 6 lbs since the combine. Must’ve shred and got light for the athletic ****, and then put back on some lbs to hit the power drills. He did 27 reps on the BP.

The funny thing is, a TON of the guys most of us really wanted to snag in later rds appear to be shooting up the boards. A guy you thought before was a 2-3 rd prospect is now being slotted as late to mid first. I’ve even seen some mocks where Johnson is top 15. If he landed at 21 and we grabbed him, I’d be ecstatic. No worry about the play strength. Not to mention he could play OLB in 3-4 and drop down to DE in other sets. Pair him with Barmore and Judon, and you’ve got a pretty athletic front. Who gets slotted next to Barmore in the middle is another question entirely.

I know OT is not an immediate need.....and I'm not sure why I feel this way but unless T. Penning is there at 21, or another big timer that drops, I'm trading back and picking up assets. Liked the trade I saw in one of the articles on the news feed
Pats Send 21 to GB for 28, a third and a fourth.

*28*, 54, 85, *92*,127, *132*, 158, 170

That is alot of ammo in the middle of the draft where we need to hit at our positions of need. Not real sure there is a big difference between 21 and 28 with regards to the players available at that time unless someone drops.

I have not seen any rumors about Flowers coming back, but no-one has signed him either. I am not an expert, but there is some rule about signing players before the draft that count against the compensation pick formula, and I believe if a FA is signed after the draft, the salary is not used in the compensation pick formula. So I am guessing that some FA's agents have already negotiated deals to be consummated after the draft. I could be wrong, but I believe something like this is going on as a lot of quality FAs are still available. Whenever I hear "he is taking his time", "he is weighing all of his options", blah, blah, blah, that means there is something other than money involved.

Flowers did not live up to the hype in Detroit, and was injured a lot as well. He is like 270 lbs. so stouter than some of the others. If we had Flowers, Jermaine Johnson, and Travis Jones I think our D line problem is solved (I am trusting others more knowledgeable than me like @WaterfallJumper on Johnson). But I am on the record and still believe that the Pats will trade down for an extra pick or two, and select Dax Hill with their first selection, much like when they traded back from the 23rd selection and picked Dugger in 2020.
I thought he was released. If so, he doesn’t count against comp picks.

Gotta be honest but I think that the Pats need to focus on OL by taking at least 2. Mac got hit allot last year and to avoid becoming gun shot from the hits, Bill needs to make sure he has 5 good guardians in front of him. The Pats use allot of play action, and Mac is good at it, so it makes sense to me to beef the OL to help the running game as well. Our pass catchers are not bad and with the hope of more 12 personnel we will see Jonnu excel.

Mac is already fast at processing what he sees but let's not make it because he has to be.

If this by some chance happens…

Just remember that Wilfork was being touted as Top 10 and fell all the way to 21... Strange things happen in the draft.. Especially with so many teams having traded out of the first round for one reason or another..
Yes, Plan A is if a super-stud falls to 21.

That takes zero planning. If it happens, it happens.

Yup, well it depends on how the draft shakes out. If top tier options at CB/WR like Booth Jr, Olave, etc. are gone, a trade down would make sense.

In fact I wouldn't even mind taking a stud big man like Travis Jones at #28. It's a little early but big man with the size, strength, and technique to dominate OL are rare. It's maybe 5-10 picks early, but does anyone else want to see T. Jones and Barmore just decimate the OL, making everyone else's jobs easier?

Just watch how Travis Jones blots out the sun on film. Incredibly strong and tough to move:

Here is my board for top 8 mostly. I did not list TE/RB/QB because i'm not looking into those positions
I listed Hall at DT although he would play DE here imo, versalite player
I listed Zion Johnson twice
I also did not look into later round prospects much so far, that's why it's limited

I couldn't upload the excel idk,

Anyone excited about this visit, he seems like the perfect undersized, slow cb that won't see the field for 2 years that should go on day 3, that we end up taking on day 2.....not this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
