2022 PTP Draft Board / Pats Draft Talk

Thanks for the note. I did not realize that Elam is not physical. I think we need an outside DB that can run with the fast guys and cut with the quick guys like Diggs. Booth struggled against Olave, and Stingley was not always consistent - both flags to me. Elam seemed to handle all receivers successfully, both Williams and Metchie from Alabama, and play on or off the line. If he is available at 31 or 32 it seems like a no brainer to me.

Having said that Daxton Hill ran a 4.38 40, and was 6.57 3 cone (Edelman's 3 cone was 6.62 and he is one of the quickest guys I have ever seen) - that is better than the corners. We need to replace McCourty and the Pats scouts seem to like Alabama, Georgia and Michigan players. Will BB draft Hill and have him play outside corner for a year or two and then move him to FS in 2023 or 2024? That is what he did with DMac.

He seems more CB than Safety excellent numbers.

Burks reached 22.6mph as a ball carrier during a TD run in college (which I'm fairly sure of after scrutinizing the tape - I was highly skeptical at first). Tyreek and Mostert (2 carries each over 22.6mph) are the only ball carriers to go faster in the NFL in the last 6 years per NextGenStats. That's incredible top end speed.

Edit: point of reference - 22.6mph is what DK reached during his chasedown of the Budda, and he wasn't a ball carrier (which will slow one down).
Yup he did and that was like the fastest time in the league (NFL) last year or top 2-3.

He reminds me of AJ Brown and DK. Tough kid that'll block, can win outside, give you some yac and a big target that doesnt need a perfect ball. Can beat press / man. I've been a fan.

The same was said about Deion Sanders just don't throw it anywhere near him because it will be coming back the other way. :)
Yea he's not Prime lol

No one in this class is.

Just think if we're taking someone RD1 it'll have to be a more well rounded in that area but I could be wrong.

I go back and forth about Elam but you make a good point regarding to run with some of these. I really like Booth probably higher on him than most.

Same with Dax and Brisker. I love both those guys and thought DMC was a good comp for Hill last year. I think worst case you take him. Try him outside. If not he's Budda Baker/DMC imo. Just think he'll translate really well. Again same with Brisker. He's been a captain in HS, community college and PSU. Love both those guys as much as Hamilton tbh.

I think Pitre will be on our board as well but we're almost stacked at that spot.

He was in this case. Should I have passed?

Edit: oops I meant to post the mock draft in “mock drafts” thread in the draft forum. Please ignore

Everything with Dax lines up IMO:
  1. Great athleticism - the 3cone time is NUTS
  2. Good size - BB loves this - not a smurf, and tackles well
  3. Top football school - Pats scouts love Alabama, Georgia and Michigan
  4. Can trade down to pick up extra picks - @captain stone should be happy :) and BB loves himself some trade downs ;)
  5. Versatile - outside or FS - BB loves himself some versatility
  6. Lower Risk - not an injury or low effort guy - solid Junior with a full college football career (lots of tape)
  7. Piss off the fan base - BB drafts another safety with the first pick and people will go NUTS. I think BB loves this.
Sorry to say it BGC, but you did a lot of very amazing scouting work but the answer is right in front of you.

Apparently it's been right in front of me ...
"Daxton Hill is a guy every Pats fan should be familiar with. Michigan man that does some of his best work in single high, from the slot and intermediate part of field. Smart player that handled Brown's scheme man/match, zone, single high, box/LB, nickel ... He can handle a lot and looks good doing it.

Plus athlete that has NFL speed and short area quicks. Smooth COD and transitions. Got caught a few times in the middle of transitioning but he's fluid and movements stand out on the field full of athletes. Stand out closing speed.

Range to cut off the field in single high or can chase you down in pursuit.

Needs to bulk up some but he thinks he's a boss out there and will throw his body around with no problem.

Another 4 down physical player with plus versatility. Just see DMC when I see him. Not sure if he can take over that role but he's a player."

We still have multiple picks though need to hit on at least 3 of these guys so that's why they keep me around.

...Again theirs a few guys I go back and forth on. Last year it was Perkins and Barmore and they ended up here. Which would have given me 5 guys off my board.

Perkins (same as Uche the year before) is such a lousy fit here though.

We are in Desperate need for Real Defensive Ends here, not these ****ing midgets who pretend to be NFL Pass-Rushers.

Perkins is 6’3”, 250-255….basically the same size as Van Noy. Wrong again, Captain.

Probably not... But what I do know is that Kyler Gordon will Not be available at 54; Pat Kirwin & Jim Miller of NFL Radio's Moving the Chains just this afternoon mocked him to us... at 21!

I'm starting to prepare myself for the inevitability that most of my favorites will be taken before Bill's had the opportunity to reject them in favor of players he "likes"...

I hope BB picks every draft stud you like so everyone on PatsFans can have a 1 year reprieve from complaining about the draft

PS I like your idea of trading down for more picks. I am not sure there will be a difference maker at 21, and I highly doubt Kyler Gordon is a difference maker.

I think he's just as likely if not more than McDuffie at this point. It'll be interesting to see what we do if Elam, Booth, McDuffie & Gordon are on the board at 21. I think Booth & Gordon are the most well rounded that could play outside. Not sure if we would put McDuffie outside and Elam might not be physical enough for us. Booth is beast in run support and Gordon can play slot. I think they might have the edge there??

I know Bill loves flexibility and not being that tied down to have to do something. I wouldn't be shocked to see a CB signing ...

I see packaging picks 54 and 85 could move us up to around pick 37 per the value chart. Maybe that’s a move. Invest highly into a CB and LB with the top two picks, and then utilize the five picks we now have in rounds 4-6 for other needs.

I think it is a trade down and then we select Dayton Hill.

I wouldn't mind that at all! Go get me two top 40 prospects.

I should have threw him in there. Ideally we could move down if we had partners.
