2022 Free Agent Receivers - Will the Patriots Target One?

The Patriots starting receivers scored a total of 10 touchdowns in 2021.

That my friend is not good !
60 total points over 17 games.
That is 3.58 points per game from our
Receivers.

Do you think that is good?

If you can’t see the talent gap between a St Brown or Elijah Moore compared to Meyers, there is nothing I can do, but disagree.
The point is to score points, not score points with WRs.
When an offense scored a TD, it’s not one play.
Henry scored 9 TDs. Somehow you seem to think it’s better to score fewer TDs if the WRs are scoring them.
I see Meyers production. You can pretend you think you see a mysterious reason why a guy who produces less is better than a guy who produces more, but we all know it’s simply a way to support your incorrect conclusion.

Your opinions are wrong when they don’t match reality.
It is entirely impossible to be a top 10 offense with the worst receivers in the league.
Elijah Moore had about half the catches that Meyers did, so really you see just making up negative comparisons. Half the catches is not comparable.
You are doing the same with the Ravens. Duvernay has fewer receiving yards the last 2 years than NKeal Harry.
Watkins in the last SIX YEARS averaged 37 catches for 505 yards and 3 TDs. He sucks. Agholor in the last 6 years averages 48/600/5 but you say he sucks and Watkins is good.

You will have to explain to me how an offense with a rookie QB and spotty OL issues for a good part of the season was a top 10 offense and even higher in many metrics if the receivers stink.

The Patriots were a running team in 2021.

When the top two running backs score twice as many touchdowns as the top 3 receivers, it’s a real stretch to credit the receivers, but give it a shot.

I won’t buy it, but the koolaid drinkers will.

I say Elijah Moore & St Brown are both better than any of the Patriots receivers and in time, you may learn.

I did say in my view we had the worst starting wide receivers in the NFL in 2020 & 2021 and I used PFF individual rankings.

Others didn’t agree & they pushed the team aspect, while I was talking starters.

One guy thinks receivers on the bench should be credited for rushing touchdowns.

Now, my statement is debatable, but I was basing it on my view of the players

Example…..

I believe the Ravens have better talent, despite injuries.

I would rather have their receivers to ours, even though there Rookie got hurt. I feel they have better talent with more upside.

Now there may be a team or two with debatable stats, but I would go with the players I feel have more upside.

The Jets for example may not have had equal stats, but I would prefer their receivers to ours as of today.

If you look at the numbers, Meyers may look compatible to Elijah Moore, but I believe Moore has better upside.

Unfortunately if your not drinking the koolaid, you get pushback.

The Patriots threw the ball 563 times and ran it 489. And that is skewed by the 3 pass game on buffalo.

The job is to score. That involves a scoring DRIVE. Whether you run it in or pass it in is irrelevant except to your fantasy football mentality.
The passing game produced almost twice as many yards as the running game. Getting into position to score is far more important that what play you score with.

The patriots had 24 rushing TD's and 24 passing TD's. That might be considered a balanced offense.

It might even be considered to be more of a passing offense since some of the running TD's were short yardage runs after a long drive that included more passes than runs.
=======================
And, of course, for YOU, Henry isn't a receiver.
========================
As of now, our 2022 passing game primarily includes Henry, Agholor, Bourne, Myers, White, and Smith. Of course, other running backs will also catch passes. We will have at least one more WR on our 53-man roster.

For some, when White scores a passing TD, it is NOT evidence that we are a running team.

You can choose to believe that we had a terrible passing game last year, and will again this year. That is totally your choice.

We don’t see eye to eye & I wish we could place a bet on the 2022 numbers.

Time to move on.

I don’t like Meyers or Agholor, but I do like a Bourne, but I know his limitations.

Hopefully I will be happy & we will upgrade our receivers

What am I missing with this talent gap between St Brown and Meyers. Both had identical stats as far as receptions and YPC. Is this argument based on TDs?

Was any team worse?

Don’t give the Wide Receivers credit for Tight end touchdowns or running back touchdowns.

Will you be happy with 10 touchdowns from our starting receivers in 2022?

I won’t

Obviously you didn’t watch St Brown the 2nd half of the season, the last 7 games he was a top 10 WR.

He was a rookie, but when he got going, he looked really good.

St Brown - Last 7 games 2021
51 receptions
560 yards
5 Touchdowns

Meyers is not in his class

I already told you I would bet. Which offense scores more points, Patriots or Lions. You see afraid to back it up.

Yeah that's a common theme on this board.
The entire offense gets credit for what the offense does, because every part is necessary.

For some, the idea is to score more points than the other team.

Points can be scored in the passing game, the running game, or by special teams.

The patriots were balanced in 2021: 24 TD by the running game, 24 by the passing game.

Contrary to what you and another poster believe, you Do NOT get more points if a WR scores than when a TE or RB catches a pass.

I have exactly ZERO interest in being in the top 7 in TD's by WR's. I want to score more points than the other team. In the passing game, I am 100% fine with catches by anyone on the team.

The patriots were #7 in points scored. If we achieve this again, we are likely to be in the playoffs. Our offense is likely to be better, even with the SAME WR's, TE's and RB's and QB's as last year. Playing together for their second year is UNLIKELY to make them worse at scoring. Also, we added White, and will likely ADD a WR or two (without losing anyone but Harry).

I won’t

You and several other prolific posters of petty pessimism will never be happy.

What matters is points scored. A team is NOT, is NOT worse because WR's don't meet your standards. What matters is that we were #7 in scoring.

But this is not the argument. When someone say's a particular unit on the team is weak, you don't come back and say "we'll the rest of the defense or offense is good".
