Well, he says Pats spent last season for 2 seasons.

And that's such a lame excuse. They took advantage of the pandemic market drop last year, and they were hailed as genius. So, now, we're giving them the out of "2 years in 1"? Pissing all your money away on questionable players in a year where you're obviously rebuilding, rather than keeping some money for the next year, is an epic fail.

If he's indicted, does that nullify the Texans-Browns trade? I'd laugh if the league said Cleveland is stuck with Watson...
No they would be stuck with him.
He’s under contact with Cleveland now with all but 1 mill guaranteed.
Could you imagine?

I would think there's a character clause out for them, disputes with the league to get the draft picks back. We know how the league loves to give picks back when mistak..... um yeah, nevermind.

There'd be lots of lawyers to be sure.

Cleveland knew the possibility of a potential indictment, given the number of women who are accusing Watson...it's buyer beware.

Most top players are gone though.

There are still plenty of solid players who could start and improve this team from last year. This used to be the Pats' sweet spot. They could pick up three to five solid starters/role players for what it would cost to get one superstar. I mean the Pats could get Flowers, Akeim Hicks, Alexander Johnson, and Michael Schofield (just throwing names around) and put them all in starting positions and upgrade the position they are filling in a couple of cases and cost far less than it cost to get Von Miller. Sure, none of them are as remotely as good as Miller. But if you can fill four starting roles with players who could upgrade your current situation, it may be better than adding one superstar.

Well, he says Pats spent last season for 2 seasons. When you look at what we spent vs what we got in return (Agholor, Bourne, Jonnu, Godchaux, Henry, Judon, Mills) and compare it to what teams are doing this season, I don't see how that was better.

I'm sure many will disagree, but aside from Judon and Henry, we didn't sign anyone that you can say makes the team that much better compared to some of the moves this season.

I'm not even talking about deals that mortgage the future but teams that had money (MIA) like we did and what they did (Armstead, Hill, Wilson, Edmonds, Williams, Mostert).

Of course we have no idea how these moves are going to work out for these teams, but on paper a lot of teams have improved their rosters with talented players.
You can easily argue after spending $140m in guarantees and only improving the win total by 3 wins was not money well spent but that was not his point.

His point was they signed 2x players and 2x money in 1 years.

Oh I don't even mind the # wins. I felt that with all the new FAs and a rookie QB getting only 3+ wins was realistic. I was more concerned with the quality of the signings for the money. Maybe we see them take off in Year 2.

I agree about the part « they did 2 years of free agency ». I strongly disagree with the fact that the contract look very good this year.

That’s the cap hit for 2022 as of right now:

Agholor: 14.9M
Smith: 13.7M
Henry: 15M
Godchaux: 10.2M
Judon: 16.5M
Mills: 6.6M

Only Mills and Judon are acceptable cap hit the rest looks awful. Between Agholor, Smith and Godchaux, we lost 40M of cap space with useless players.
The two top cap hits for Tight Ends are Hunter and Smith. Which is kinda gross.

They’ll also be second and third next year, unless something changes.

It's shame we didn't get Three $5Mill Players Tops to do what they did it wouldn't hurt as much oh well.

The cap hit/dead cap #s are tough to swallow only if you think the player has not performed.

Mills, Judon, Henry are fine.

God will be reworked. That was planned.

Agholor will be reworked or traded.

Smith is a bad, bad contract.

Gilly looking to get paid. I doubt he signs with Pats if that's the case.

No matter from what angle you look at it still can't get those jet sweeps to him out of my mind. All of a sudden a supposedly move TE looks clueless in space. Hope BB has has rabbit's foot and four leaf clover ready for the year two Jonnu Smith.

Agholor, Godchaux, and Smith are all bargains at this point.

I don’t want to restructure their contracts…I’d like to roll with what we have right now and keep 85-100M cap space for next year and once again double dip…so that in Jones’s 4th year…we just pick up his option and negotiate a big extension before year 5.

And giving up Gilmore for 6th next year is looking pretty good right now to me…
