Player Signing Pats bringing back Bentley

Expected. Still great to have the confirmation esp. on such a bargain.
LB anchor is set, now lets see the LB wings emerging from the rest of the group.

3M per and not a dime above it. That's 50% higher man!
EDIT It does say "maximum" so maybe there are incentives there

meh, all around not impressed

"up to" or "maximum" has always some incentives, probably around 1M-2M in bonuses (playing time, personal achievements, team achievements etc)
I'd guess its around 3 to 4M per year, might be as well a 2M-5M split but regardless, its an ok/fair deal for both, no reach or overpay for a solid player that knows the system and has improved last year

I am not a fan of Bentley, but the deal is ok/fair

I hope that contract is back loaded that's a overpay you can get better on the scrap heap. Can't wait for the Hightower resign might as well now.

There are a few posters here that we may want to keep an eye on. Reach out to their loved ones, make sure they're checking in regularly, etc.
Put me on that list.

I know he is not the most popular player on the team but I looked back all the game books and he was the top tackler over at least half the games and prominent in some of the others. But, as I am sure other posters will say , tackles are not everything and he has been exposed several times by a lack of speed when covering. ? He could be the only starting LB left from 2021
I believe he led the league in tackles 8 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Once every few games he would hit the right hole and make a big tackle. Not often enough for me.

This sounded so absurd to me that I had to go look up every tackle in the game log to disprove it. Bentley had 29 tackles at least 8 yards down the field, while Foyesade Oluokun (Falcons, now Jags) had 64.

Good.

Need more speed but desperately need someone on running downs and an LB that knows the defense that can help the kids.

He prob played a little too much last year and is exposed in the passing game but w/ 109 tkls and 3 FFs he did fine as a rotational LB.

If they can sign one or two coverage types it will allow BB to scheme around Bentley's shortcomings. Take away his need to cover and just let him be the thumper he's built to be - even if his entire playbook is "Identify the rushing lane and plug it, otherwise get pressure."

I'm pretty sure that coverage is one of recently signed Mack Wilson's strengths. Could always use more though.

Soooo, given that good plays end in tackles when you're on D, and I am not talking about tackles by DBs, it's a LB, maybe there's a certain value to retaining the guy who makes said tackles.

I know he's the local punching bag, and just repeating the stat of the day on Bentley

Saw the headline and dropped in to see if the mods took everybody's belts and shoelaces.
