That's why I don't understand why we didn't tag him. It would have been a steal considering what he got. It's probable considering the Chargers just gave him 40 mil guaranteed. They would have given us a 3rd or at worse a 4th in a tag and trade deal. They're going for it this and next year. They at least get him for this year for less than what they're paying in 2023 and would have elusive rights to sign him. I'm not often overly critical, but I think we might have missed the ball with that one.
Tag and trades are very much looked down on; the CBA says the team has to make a good faith effort to sign the guy. Not that it doesn’t happen (Matt Cassel), but when it happens it’s with the player’s consent or well after the time the tag was placed. There’s a decent risk that Jackson would have filed a grievance if the Pats tagged him with the express purpose of trading him (and thus significantly hurting his market).

What post? I went back and looked at your message and there was no post in it you were replying to..

Cap is not an issue for NE. They are free to have Free Agency as they want.

The question is what they want. Where they feel they can get roster building advantage.

This is not only a slow starting FA but it will be a long FA like last yr with supply far surpassing demand.
Many good FAs were available after the Draft last yr. Remember after the Draft FAs dont count against comp formula anymore.

I have a feeling BB will consider comp picks this yr - or at least the one 3rd rounder for JC.
It will not be easy since Pats dont have too many FAs left to lose who will count in comp picks formula.

I expect balanced & patient NE FA with some solid vets coming in after the Draft..

I will be curious what the Pats end up doing, because at this point it seems like they could have easily outbid other teams on Karras, Jackson and Chark.

I’m not sure when Pats fans went all gaga over comp picks. They’re a good consolation, but pick#100 in the 2024 draft should not stop you from signing a good top of the market player if one is available to sign.

I got a feeling any big additions we make will be trades as opposed to signings.
Well might as well have the island of misfit toys and trade for Isabella and Anderson.

Anything left in the tank? I was hoping he’d keep sliding in the 2nd round in 2016 since we didn’t have a 1st, but didn’t make it that far. Freaking Goodell…..

That's a player I would like to see with Patriots coaching. He sealed a trip to the super bowl for the Jags, oh wait, the ref blew the whistle, no fumble recovery.

Not sure how legit this is. But....

He looked good. One of the bright spots of the Jaguars last season.
So basically, a sign of a bad organization then? Spend a boatload of cash overpaying some really good players and some average players, but ignore depth and pay for it by cutting one of your better existing players. We see this from bad teams every year like clockwork.
