Top 5.

NFL's highest paid cornerbacks (average salary per year):

  • 1. Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey: $21 million
  • 2. Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey: $19.5 million
  • 3. Bills cornerback Tre'Davious White: $17.3 million
  • 4. Eagles cornerback Darius Slay: $16.7 million
  • 5. Dolphins cornerback Byron Jones: $16.5 million
  • 6. Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard: $15.1 million
  • 7. Giants cornerback James Bradberry: $14.5 million
  • 8. Ravens cornerback Marcus Peters: $14 million
  • 8. Bengals cornerback Trae Waynes: $14 million
  • 10. Washington cornerback William Jackson III: $13.5 million
I thought he'd easily surpass Jones and Slay. Jones is horrible. Slay had some bad years before signing his contract in 2020. He did have a bounce back year though in 2021.

With Jackson being the top corner on the market this FA, there should be some good players at decent deals left at the position.

I thought he'd get more like 19/per, but maybe that's the trade off for that monstrous up-front payout.

It's weird. Last year the WR market in free agency was below value with most of the WR free agents not getting the big deals they thought they would while CBs did. This year is shaping up to be the opposite. The WRs like Kirk are getting over paid while CBs like Jackson are not.

Buccaneers secondary last year w/ Carleton davis..

So who do the Pats target tomorrow?

I'd like to see them re-sign Trent Brown and Folk.

Vander Esch?
Akiem Hicks?
Trey Flowers? (No comp loss)
Trevarious Ward?

Thoughts?

I think Jackson did very very well here, better than I thought he would. $40m in the first 2 years is great. They'll revisit this contract toward the final 3 years.

Why doesn’t Vander Esch count against comp formula?

Jackson is gambling that they will give him a new deal after his second season with the Chargers. That isn't a guarantee. If he doesn't live up to his contract, he may be stuck in LA on short money. He will only get them to redo his deal if he is a stud and he can leverage a hold out to get more money.

With the Pats needing help at RT, is there a Marcus Cannon reunion with the Patriots?
