I like most of the names in your mock draft... But where are the OLmen, especially the LT?

Priority is on defense and it emphasizes speed and 2 DTs to stop the run. In the draft, the dropoff on the 2nd and 3rd days on the Oline is drastic. Look at the way the O line was dominated in the Senior Bowl practices for evidence of this decline. I would rather take a flyer on Ben Petrula OG/OT from BC as a UDFA than waste a draft pick on an O-lineman. If you want an LT you have to draft him much earlier than he is rated. There are only three worth drafting and you will have to take them in the 1st round.

Fair enough; but with 6 picks in the top 135 in the above scenario, I'm taking a LT with one of them...Not with my first, second or possibly even third picks, but later in the 3rd/4th rounds there might still be worthy candidates available such as AZ State's Kellen Diesch, Tulsa's Tyler Smith or Bernhard Raimann's bookend at Central Michigan Luke Goedeke...

We need to come out of this draft with viable upgrades at CB, DT, DE, WR and yes LT... and that still includes being Extremely Aggressive during the UDFA period Immediately post-draft...At LB we at least have some quantity, if not quality; at those other positions we have neither.

We will have to disagree ... the players the Patriots have on the roster at OL are better than all but a handful of picks in the 1st two rounds. As far as LB goes, the Patriots may have quantity but they either can't or no longer can play. MacMillan and McGrone are coming off injury. The coaches don't trust Uche or Winowich. Perkins is coming off IR and has no real experience. Van Noy should be cut, Hightower, Collins, and Bentley are Free Agents. I am hearing that Bentley is going to be overpaid to leave the Patriots.

I think you are both correct but with only 6 picks and available cap space we may have more problems than solutions. Just have to hope we have a great draft and pick up some decent players once the FA's ins and outs are set. It's going to be an interesting off season and camp

This is one of my continuing disagreements with your analysis.

We should NOT expect to come out of any draft with five viable upgrades, unless you are talking about their entire rookie contracts. Even then, 5 is alot.

It would be useful to have a list of Rosenhaus 2022 free agents. We work well with him.

Sportrac have an NFL agents tracker but I have no idea how current or accurate this is ?

Do you not remember whom we currently have at those 5 positions? Up-grading Each One of those positions through the draft should not be impossible.

The Pats have to come away with legitimate upgrades at WR, DT and LB at worst. Yes, CB is going to be a dire need when Jackson leaves (yes, he’s leaving), but you can’t address everything. And if you focus on CB, that’s another year you’ve ignored the front 7. CB may have to wait a year.

When was the last time that Belichick upgraded 5 positions through the draft?

Do we need an improvement at dt?

Or do we need another 5 technique on the defensive line?

Also don’t we have the linebackers we need already in the roster?

We draft a cb (Elam in the first) 5 technique (hall in the second),wr (Robinson in the third) and pass catching rb to replace white (cook in the 4th).

I'm fine with the positions for round 1, 2 and 4.

I think the 3rd in more questionable. I find an OL more useful, depending on who we sign and re-sign in free agency.

CB has been ignored in the draft since the Duke (but Not of Dorchester) Dawson & SloJuan Willies catastrophes of 2018 & '19...It can NOT be ignored another year. Matt & the Wolf are just going to have to show Billy & Nike how it's done...

Yes

Or do we need another 5 technique on the defensive line?
En Oh spells NO... We need a 0/1-tech, i.e.: a Beef Curtain.

For this season, Yes... We simply don't have enough picks to use yet another one on yet another Roberts/Rivers/Bentley/Sam/Wino/Uche/Knee Jennings/Perkins/McGroan.

We draft a cb (Elam in the first) 5 technique (hall in the second),wr (Robinson in the third) and pass catching rb to replace white (cook in the 4th).
Yes... NO...Yes... And absolutely, positively FU-CK NO.

I'm not a fan of trading Mason. If the run game is going to be the identity of this offense then we need a mauler. I'd much rather move Wynn. He'd be a bargain for a contender with a weak line looking to win now, and I'd rather allocate the cash toward resigning Brown, and move Owenu back to RT.

On defense, I think it might be time to dedicate our resources back toward the defensive line. We have a solid core with Judon and Barmore, add another stud pass rusher and some beef to the line, and let the kids fight it out at LB. Maybe it fails, but I think it is wiser to have a lockdown unit on the defense (at the expense of another unit) than to have major holes at all three levels.

I’m glad it was ignored because they had Gilmore and the emerging Jackson. Unfortunately, the front 7 seven has been ignored going on 5 years now (aside from Judon). If you keep addressing the same positions, your team will not improve. In fact, we’ll have the same conversation a year from know how the front 7 is soft.

And are you referring to Matt Patricia showing Bill how it’s done? I don’t want Matt anywhere near the war room after his atrocious drafts in Detroit and took that massive bust in CB Jeff Okudah.
