OT: Stafford a Hall of Famer?

During his time in the league, he was behind the following:

Brady
Rodgers
P. Manning
Roethlisberger
Mahomes
Wilson
Allen

Others like Ryan, Prescott and Rivers, I suppose you could debate. That means, during his career, at BEST, he was the seventh best (Manning/Mahomes didn't overlap) in the league at any given time. And that doesn't count the flashes in the pan that surpassed him during any given year as well, like Newton, Kaepernick (he did have that one year in 2012), etc. WAY too many people ahead of him in this era.

Hall of good is kind of short changing him though.

Hall of very good imo.

Hall of good would be reserved for guys like Delhome, Trent Green, Alex Smith, and Bledsoe.

I agree.

Eli might even be ahead due to two SB's.

Maybe Romo ahead too?

Romo is in my HoSTFU
Yeah his first three years were great.

But he seems to be slacking the past few years.

I think he would work better with a guy like Michaels. Nantz seems to try and analyze things a bit too much.

If you're comparing Stafford to Bledsoe then you know he doesn't belong in the HOF. No offense to Bledsoe, he and Parcells gave new life to a dying franchise, but he is not a HOFer. He did make 4 pro bowls and he did lead the NFL is passing yards once, so he's got that over Stafford. The killer for Bledsoe is the brutal postseason numbers.

Stafford just had a very good postseason (with an underwhelming SB performance imo) so it's fresh but with some distance I think the sum of his career will come into focus. Which to this point is a good quarterback with one SB ring on a stacked team. This SB takes him out of the underachieving category but it doesn't also put him in the HOF. He probably has 3-5 more seasons to bolster his case.
I checked Bledsoe's postseason stats, and you are correct. They are awful. In five of the six playoff games in which he started, he threw more interceptions than touchdowns. His highest quarterback rating was 72, the next highest 64, and everything else was in the 50s or below. No wonder the BB picked Brady to start in the 2002 Pats/Rams Super Bowl. Brady only had a quarterback rating of 86 with one touchdown and no interceptions, but that performance was better than anything Bledsoe had done in his career.

Looking at the stafford slander in the traded to Rams threads from a year ago brings me a huge smile.a lot of god awful takes there and here

If he wins another Super Bowl then he is in, until then he’s Drew Bledsoe

You were right. Stafford proved me wrong.

I like Stafford…seems like a genuinely good person. Glad to see him win a championship.

However, I don’t see how he has a Hall of Fame resume right now. Of course, if he puts together 3 more years of high level play and leads the Rams into the postseason regularly, then there’s a pretty strong case that his Rams years should carry a lot more weight.

Stafford has the most 4th quarter comebacks since entering the league in 2009, even moreso than Tommy boy. And when he's finished he'll likely be #1 in this category. All things considered, I think he's on the cusp of getting in. He has at least 4-5 years of good football left and maybe even longer. And he threw for 30+ touchdowns in 2011 and 2015 as well as this past year.
He probably has the most 4th quarter non comebacks too.
When you always trail going into the 4th you have more comebacks that a guy who always leads going into the 4th.

Is this serious question? What kind of weed you guys using in KC?
No, Stafford can see Canton only on map

I wouldn't put Eli Manning in the HOF, he fails the simple test of asking "Is this one of the greatest players at this position of all-time?" Regardless, my gut reaction is that there is no way he doesn't get in - having both the New York + Manning royalty bias is real.

That being said, E. Manning becomes the bar for Stafford and if he were to ever get a second ring, he would be a HOFer as he's on pace to surpass him statistically/would match the rings.

So the answer is currently no, but one more ring makes it a legitimate discussion.

This.

If someone said Philip Rivers do you immediately say yes without hesitation? Nope.

As soon as you have to go back and look at stats to justify HOF--No.

If someone said Gronk or Kelce you immediately say yes without hesitation.

If someone said Rodgers or Brady, yes!! You don't have to look back.
Kelce? Definetly not a no hesitation yes from me. The others on that list are though so you do get the concept....mostly.

You guys ..

If Tom Brady got drafted by the Detroit Lions Brady would be of the ilk of Cleo Lemon

What's your gut reaction to Eli Manning who certainly will be in the Hall?

The standard for QB's is ridiculous.
Ridiculously low standards?

Richard Sherman has this right. For a QB it’s essentially a participation trophy. Not once has Matt Stafford been regarded as elite. What’s he got 1 pro bowl? 0 all pros, never had an mvp vote.

That does not belong enshrined with the greatest to ever play.
