OT: Stafford a Hall of Famer?

I feel for the guy because I’ll always be wondering what his career could have looked like on a legit franchise. But as it stands no.

No.

He is an above average QB who got stuck on a bad team for over a decade and finally won, without being the main or one of the main reasons why, once he joined a team that was loaded. And even then, he threw more INTs than anyone no named Trevor Lawrence (a rookie on a ****ty team who was asked to do way too much).

Good stats, good player, finally got a ring, but not an HOFer.

What's your gut reaction to Eli Manning who certainly will be in the Hall?

The standard for QB's is ridiculous.
Ian doesn't have a puking icon....

uh, nope, hall of pretty good playing bulk of career on bad team, IMHO. Re Archie Manning

I think he's right on the cusp of getting in...he has all the stats, now he has 1 sb ring...if he happens to get a 2nd he's definitely in.

Jesus Christ hell no.

I posted about this in my All-Time QB Rankings thread. The Super Bowl victory brings him right outside the Hall of Fame bubble.

Being top 40 gets you in and being top 40-50 is borderline.

He’s somewhere in the 50-55 range.

He may be able to play 3-4 seasons at a high level, get a few accolades like all pro or at least pro bowl. Surprisingly, he only has one pro bowl bod. Another Super Bowl would make him a sure Hall of Famer, but you can say that about a lot of players.

Jim Plunkett has 2 rings, a Super Bowl MVP and isnt in the HOF........
Eli is basically Plunkett if he beat Joe Montana twice. But that's a big difference to HOF voters who love ~storylines~

Plus something something New York media market, HOF voters, etc.

No F..ing way

Great QBs turn franchises around, put them on the picture, just like Burrow is doing (remains to be seen) with the Bengals. I don’t buy the Detroit narrative. Aaron Rodgers in an alternative universe would put the Lions on the winning path.

By the way, yesterday one of the least impressive QB performances by a SB winner that I can remember going back to maybe Russell Wilson or the corpse of Manning with the Broncos.

No.

But two rings while knocking off the NFLs worst nightmare is going to get him more consideration from the people who vote on this sort of thing. I dont think its the two rings as much as HOW he got the two rings.

Rodgers has all of 1 ring playing his whole career for one of the league's model franchises while the Lions have been historically stupid for generations, at every level of the organization. Imagine thinking Rodgers wins anything with head coach Matt Patricia lol

disagree.

He's a good player. threw for a lot of yards. but thats it. Until this year, threw for 30+td's just twice. He's just not a hall of fame level player. And having two rings does not guarantee selection ... just ask Jim Plunkett, and hopefully (knock wood x3) eli

edit: twice... thanks for pointing that out.

Plunkett is the anomaly though. I mean Eli is getting in and so is Ben. So I think Stafford has an excellent chance. He is only 34 and he is on a team that is built to win now. The NFC is a joke on top. Rams will be the heavy favorite next year to return.

Stafford has the most 4th quarter comebacks since entering the league in 2009, even moreso than Tommy boy. And when he's finished he'll likely be #1 in this category. All things considered, I think he's on the cusp of getting in. He has at least 4-5 years of good football left and maybe even longer. And he threw for 30+ touchdowns in 2011 and 2015 as well as this past year.

Minor correction, he threw for 30+ TDs in 2011 and 2015. He probably got stiffed for Pro Bowl selections those years because he was buried on the Lions, which would have made his resume look a little better but still not elite.

Your overall point is still spot on though. He was never seen as say a top 5 guy. I'm not sure his peak seasons on the Lions even reached the level of (spins the wheel) Tony Romo, really, and nobody thinks those are HOF fodder. Even with the picks he had a very strong 2021 and won a ring, but barring a late career surge with a league MVP or second ring or something he's a fringe guy for sure.

He will get in imo. SB win and passing yardage will be enough.

Thing is, if he's in, should Matt Ryan be in too? Ryan has the MVP.

Thoughts?

Whether he should be in is a different question.

Nope. One SB isn't enough, look at Jim Plunkett, and the yardage totals are going to keep increasing as long as the NFL wants contact-free football.

Stafford's never been a top 5 QB his career, and he has been very meh during this post season.

30+ twice? I will correct that. The point still stands - massive under performance.

Hes good. Not great.

Someone else said that the story is a big part of a HOF induction and I agree.

If Namath won a SB without the guarantee and against a non descript opponent I don't think he gets in.

Eli is only likely to get in because he beat the premier dynasty in sports twice, one preventing an undefeated season.

I agree if Stafford won the Super Bowl with the LIONS that's a great story and then his chances are a lot higher. As it is, he won a Super Bowl on a team loaded on defense. Like Trent Dilfer. Or Jim McMahon. Those guys have 0 shot to be inducted.

If the media likes you, you’ll get in. His story is not over yet, but this Super Bowl win helps him.
