OT: Stafford a Hall of Famer?

OK, does PFR take into account Stafford's super bowl win? and i didn't realize that HOFers are determined by a website...
Yes they counted it. It's not determined by a website but this site uses some good metrics to compare HoF cases for a bunch of guys and puts them all together so you don't have to search everywhere for it.

Stafford isn't a hall of fame caliber QB and very likely never will be. That was true yesterday and is still true today.

Stafford edges Drew Bledsoe statistically, but it's fairly close IMO. He's got a ways to go to be a HoFer. He needs to be considered among the best in the game, and he's never in that discussion.

Stafford isn't a Hall of Famer now, but that can change. At 33, he would need to string together several starring seasons with the Rams to put together any kind of legitimate case.

He's not even close, but writers need stories and talk shows need fodder.

If you look at stats that adjust for era like Rate+, Eli and Plunkett are basically identical. Plunkett just outscored Ron Jaworski and Joe Theismann instead of Tom Brady so nobody cares.

If you're comparing Stafford to Bledsoe then you know he doesn't belong in the HOF. No offense to Bledsoe, he and Parcells gave new life to a dying franchise, but he is not a HOFer. He did make 4 pro bowls and he did lead the NFL is passing yards once, so he's got that over Stafford. The killer for Bledsoe is the brutal postseason numbers.

Stafford just had a very good postseason (with an underwhelming SB performance imo) so it's fresh but with some distance I think the sum of his career will come into focus. Which to this point is a good quarterback with one SB ring on a stacked team. This SB takes him out of the underachieving category but it doesn't also put him in the HOF. He probably has 3-5 more seasons to bolster his case.

Wilson & Plunkett... man, why couldn't the Patriots get guys like that back then

There are, though QB responsibility makes the modern debate different.

Red Dunn (1920s-30s Packers, four championships)
Those early championships were "paper" titles... just who ever had the best record, til 1932/33

His wife is in my HOF.

I was initially curious to hear your defense of Chris Simms for the HoF, but, well ....

He is first ballot for the mediot HOF.

ESPN Get Up debated it last week. Most thought he was a HOF without a ring. But a ring puts him in first ballot territory.

Thus, why I asked.

My criteria for HOF is simple when you say the name what is your immediate gut reaction?

No.
This.

If someone said Philip Rivers do you immediately say yes without hesitation? Nope.

As soon as you have to go back and look at stats to justify HOF--No.

If someone said Gronk or Kelce you immediately say yes without hesitation.

If someone said Rodgers or Brady, yes!! You don't have to look back.

When are the mods going to understand that this jackass is just trolling everyone?
?

I didn't even say anything bad.

You don't know me. Who are you to know if I'm a jackass or not?

Nope. One SB isn't enough, look at Jim Plunkett, and the yardage totals are going to keep increasing as long as the NFL wants contact-free football.

Stafford's never been a top 5 QB his career, and he has been very meh during this post season.
I think the glitz of LA and the story of overcoming the Lions to win a SB may lead him into Canton.

Not suggesting it's deserved.

If only this were the actual standard.

Nope. Hall of good. He won 1. Good for him i suppose, worst QBs have 1 or even 2 before. It isn't the single end all be all. He won on a stacked team in a year where he got to face a weak run of playoff teams. Arizona was a shell. Being Brady is impressive to an extent, but that Bucs team was very injured, and they barely won. They beat SF, but SF wasn't really that good. And they beat a scrappy but unremarkable Bengals team.

I'm not trying to play down the accomplishment, but some years are easier than others, and while he made some plays along the way, it felt like he kind of leans into the talent he had around him more than creating a path. Too much of 'throw it up to Kupp when in doubt and he will win me the game' kind of feel to what he did. Not that he played badly really over all. It just didn't feel like a great run in a lot of ways.
