He needs to get over it. He still thinks about being drafted 199th in 2000...he really needs to move on. It worked out well for him.
Tom is on record as saying it was never personal. Was that statement part of the 90% of things he says not the truth?

I'll disagree here. Not mentioning the team he played 20+ years in a retirement message is pretty notable. This was a career retirement- not a leaving the team/fan base message. In the grand scheme of things it's not a huge snub. Maybe the DEFCON 4 of shade?

I don't blame Tom one bit for it and I have no issue with it.

I am a bit confused as Tom has said a number of wonderful things about Kraft and the NEP org during the documentary, press conferences, podcasts, etc and he accidentally leaves mentioning the team out out his retirement message?

Not buying it.

I think it more about Tom not looking like a doormat and thanking the team that didn't want to bend for him.

It's gonna take Kraft to reach out and suck up to Tom for him to come back here for any type of ceremony.
We'll see. I'm sure on his next podcast with Jim Gray on Monday night he'll be asked about it.

Brady is part of a union and so he can be pushed out and if he doesn't like it he and his fellow players shouldn't have signed the CBA. Furthermore, he shouldn't take any of that stuff personally and he should lick our asses to a level that meets our satisfaction. This is a business and so he can't take anything personal and only we can do that. BB is a god and if he says Tom has to go, then that's it and he should do so with a smile. We will continue to rack up championships because that ungrateful clown is only a small piece of our success and how dare he feel slighted for being asked to leave when clearly he agreed to these work conditions under the CBA. We must all talk in a civil matter or your opinion is invalidated and the rest of us reign supreme.

I'm all for expressions of gratitude, I make them all the time, but also I don't get bent out of shape if other people don't make them, intentionally or unintentionally.

It's only a slight or an insult if you walk through this world with your slight/insult detector running at full blast ready to trigger at any instant.

All of this is true. The passions of a sports fan, however, are a different animal altogether and shouldn't be expected to align with "real life."

A Brady led Patriots makes the playoffs in 2020 and I still think they would be getting ready to go to LA if he was still here. IMO

With the collapse of the Patriots' defense, there is no way the Pats would have gone to the Super Bowl this year. Sorry, I don't see it. I don't think Brady would have scored a TD on every drive against the Bills and that would have been the only way the Pats would have beaten the Bills this year. And even then, the Pats would have had to won the coin flip and scored a TD on the opening drive in overtime.

Eh I don't think that means "90% of the things I say is not the truth". I interpreted it as he keeps a lot of things he's thinking to himself at least publicly.

None of them are the goat. Please.
The top NFL QBs always end up elsewhere. Anyone who holds what happened in 2020 against the Patriots is not a Patriots fan. This franchise is better off for it.

also, it was a move that worked out for Tom as well. how happy would he have been on the 2020 and 2021(which wouldve been worse) rosters? would've spent 2 years on a rebuilding team struggling like he did in 2019 and retired.

instead he gets to go to the bucs. throw to elite pass catchers and win a superbowl
It would have been 2019 all over again. He would have been a miserable, grumpy SOB.

My belief is he retired mainly b/c the Bucs are also starting their rebuilding project. He wants no part of that.

That would have been what he would have gone through here.

Not really. Brady won super bowls early in his career without skilled players on offense.

No, he didn’t. He had Troy Brown in his prime and a host of complimentary players. But the fact that you’re now saying that Brady won those Super Bowls is noted.

The only other quarterback I know who won multiple super bowls without a talented offense was Montana in 1981 and 1984. Even Eli had Plaxico Burress.

Dwight Clark was a Pro Bowler in 1982. Wendell Tyler was a Pro Bowler in 1984, and Francis was key in the Super Bowl that year. This argument doesn’t hold water. That said? This is at least better than coming to the realization that Brady needed weapons at the skill positions. The funniest part is that you needed time to “think” about that. I hope you didn’t hurt yourself. What’s next? You’ll tell us that the Sun rises in the East and sets in the West? 2 + 2 = 4?

Devil’s advocate.

Peyton Manning was damaged goods and the greatest QB prospect since him was there for the taking to set them up for the future.

Brett Farve had a stud in Aaron Rodgers behind him. Farve had been playing games forever with whether he would retire. He wasn’t committed. Finally they said, “no we have this really talented guy who wants to play the next 10 years, we aren’t losing him because you aren’t sure”

Montana was badly injured for two seasons and Steve Young was winning MVP’s. It was a no brainer. They had an elite guy right there.

….The Patriots let Brady walk for….. Stidham… so they could desperately sign Cam Newton who was washed…. Hoyer…. Oh wait they got rid of him so they could hope and pray someone like Mac fell to them to see if someday he could be an elite QB. There was no other apparent guy. Those teams had a reasonable future mapped out and their QB’s were compromised in some way. Brady didn’t have Manning or Montana’s devastating injuries, and he wasn’t jerking his team around with lack of commitment to playing like Farve. He was an all time great who could still play that wanted to be here.

The team decided their system was too important to give the top player in the leagues history a multi year contract because they were too afraid that they would be one year too late if he declined mid contract and they’d have to grit their teeth for a season.

If they had some other guy, okay Tom Brady sorry but the future is now. They didn’t. They just didn’t want to take the potential downside of being Tom Brady’s endgame plan. The Bucs assumed that risk. Hence, they got to be the team he retired from and who got the lionshare of the celebration.

The sad thing is 10 years from now with perspective I think most people will realize that sacrificing one even two rough years would have been nothing in comparison to how special it would be for the greatest NFL player ever to retire as a Patriot. That moment was taken from us for no real reason besides the system was too important to see the big picture.
The Patriots are better off for moving in a different direction. Brady was better off too. Brady would have had a horrendous time playing in 2020, and he probably would have retired after a 9-7 year. Instead he won the SB. And if Brady had stayed here, our QB right now would be Stidham, instead of Mac Jones.

Eh I don't think that means "90% of the things I say is not the truth". I interpreted it as he keeps a lot of things he's thinking to himself at least publicly.
Sure but it's fair to say all of the nice things he said about BB and Kraft are now questioned.

Yeah, I think if the Bucs were going to have the same talent around him again in 2022, I don't know if he is going to retire. But they are likely going to take a big step back next year with or without Brady. The step is just far, far greater now that Brady is gone.

Also notable on the other side that Bill hasn't put out a statement yet on Brady. Seems weird on both sides.

In fairness to the Patriots, Brady looked in significant decline in 2019. It was one of the worst years of his career, if not the worst. He was 42 years old at the time. Teams didn't fall over themselves to get him when he was a free agent. In fact, many of Brady's top choices (San Fran and Chicago) didn't even seem interested. Many people in the league and media, not just the Rob Parkers of the world, thought the end was near.
If Belichick and McDaniels considered him to be in decline, then they screwed up royally. I believe Belichick knew the team was screwed because of the cap. Heck, Belichick even defended himself by saying so.

You can find my posts on here from 2019 where I say I do NOT think there is a decline in Brady, and the disaster we saw had everything to do with no LT, Marshall Newhouse, no David Andrews, a torn MCL on Shaq Mason (played thru), injured Marcus Cannon, no Gronk (who didn't give NE a chance to address him leaving as he informed them late). It was a disaster that was no fault of Brady's Marshall freakin' Newhouse. I think Belichick knew this.

And how do you know that he did not say that? Everything we have read about Brady's last contract was that it was the contract Brady asked for. I just don't understand the posters on here who imply that a team can somehow force one of their free agent players to sign whatever contract they offer. Other than the Franchise Tag, teams cannot force a player to stay.
I read the opposite. I read that Brady wanted 2 years and the Patriots only offered 1. It wasn't a money issue, they were agreed on the money ($20-25m).

If you owe him nothing, and he owes you nothing, then why do you care or consider it strange? One of two reasons -

1) You feel he owes you something.

2) You actually care.

But we know it’s not number two because you then said…

I see a lot of crying. If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t comment. As for the last sentence, I really don’t think you want to exchange insults with me. I’ll chalk it up to you being snowed in and let that one slide.
I thought this was a message board. And i didn't know we were exchanging insults. Am i supposed to be afraid of you insulting me? lol cmon your better than that. Now, what's next? Are you going to offer to meet somewhere and fight me like you have in the past? lmao. i don't care what your god does. But like I said. It is a message board. And he looks really bad. im sorry that makes you upset.

Word was Belichick thought he saw a decline in Brady before 2019. They were obviously wrong if they did because he was still good enough to lead the league in most passing categories two years later.

Or I believe in being civil in a mature and balanced society. I believe that it is advantageous to collectively acting in a civil manner. Being polite and respectful of others is not a bad thing. "Actually care"? Sure. I care about PatsFans, @Ian has put a lot of work into it, and if Ian closed PatsFans, it would be civil of him to write a thank you note to all of the posters. "Actually care" like I care about my family, kids, wife, etc.? No. There are different levels of commitment, and we all commit more or less depending on our personalities and situations. That is why it is constructive to be polite and respectful, and say thanks. Even say thanks more than once.

Not sure why it is important to be a manly man and out muscle posters on a message board. We all care, we are here, it is a forum which is a form of entertainment. We only participate in forms of entertainment we enjoy.
I personally don't care but let's be honest there is a HUGE difference between moving on from a team and retiring from the Sport.

If you leave a company and retire from another, do you go out of your way to thank your previous company during your retirement party? Most wouldn’t. He thanked the Pats two years ago, retired a Buccanneer, and will be remembered for being a Pat. Our time will come again in 4 years.

He’s not MY God. I just don’t see the big deal. But I also still get laid and have a life outside of following the Patriots while picking icicles out of my butt cheeks.

So the question remains - if you don’t care what Brady does, why are you in this thread and why do you think it looks “really bad?”

I also don’t remember threatening to fight you. Or anyone, for that matter. Maybe you can find that post a jog my memory.

There was a difference the younger Brady was capable of carrying a team with lesser talent, the Brady of the last couple of years needed talent around him to succeed. Remarkable the level of performance given his age regardless.
