Mac Jones vs. the other rookie QBs

If Fields has a good game against the Vikings I think he enters the rookie of the year conversation.
Fields has a 3-8 record with a QB rating of 69.3. The only way he’d enter a rookie of the year conversation is if they let him be a rookie again next year and he perform at a higher level than a drunk Cam Newton on the field.

I don't know why you're so upset? Or fixated on 2019 and 2020. My whole point was Fields faced plenty of "ranked" or top tier opponents. Off the top of my head ...
MSU
Clemson
Michigan
Wisconsin X2
PSU X2
Indiana
Northwestern
Wrong
MSU was not ranked in 19-20
Clemson was not regular season
Wisconsin was ranked 1 season
Penn State was ranked 1 season
They played 5 ranked teams in 2019 and 2020 in the regular season.

Do you still have the Hall of Fame vote for New England?
Lets discuss again in 5 years. I will be happy to admit if I am wrong. He is getting too much credit when they win and people are aftaid to be transparent about his weaknesses. Yes he is a good guy, smart and works hard. Trent Dilfer, maybe Kirk Cousins is his ceiling.

Some of the throws he made the other night were pretty special, especially the one that Meyers dropped in the 1st half. Very few QB's are dropping that ball in there like that. And the more I think about his 4th qtr performance, the more impressed I am.

You have no fuukking idea what is ceiling is after 14 games in his rookie year on a rebuilding team. STFU already.

Kirk Cousins is a good QB. He is 10 year vet with playoff experience. He's a top 5 QB in passer rating right now. Has over 100 passer rating in each of his last 3 seasons including this one. If Mac in the future is Kirk Cousins - that's a win for us.

I've heard Alex Smith comparisons too. Smith is a good QB. Smith also beat the living crap out of the BB and Brady Patriots twice so I wouldn't turn my nose up at that either.

Mac is a rookie. We don't know what he will become yet. I'll reserve judgement after he has an offseason to work on his game and build up his strength and see what he's got in year 2. But we do know with 100% certainty the Pats made the right pick at #15 in the draft.

Kirk Cousins has a very low ceilng. He isn't half the QB that Mac is, even now. Mac does things that Kirk just doesn't- throw receivers open and dropping dimes into their bread baskets.

The good thing with Mac is, he is still a rookie, he might not be prime TB but he is a very servicable QB. The best part on him he is very coachable, and is driven to succeed. He has enough talent to lead the Patriots to a SB.

But like all other QBs you have to have still a good team around you, even the GOAT scored like 0 points against the Saints, you can't block, throw and catch at the same time. Put Mahomes on the Jets won't make them AFC contenders without Kelce and Hill and a somewhat good O-Line...

Davis Mills has been the second best rookie QB statistically, "wins" are a team stat not a QB stat. The Pats would have been fine with him under center as well I suspect.

For those saying the Pats are 9-5 with average but efficient QB play, I would remind them that they won a ring in 2001 with average QB play and there are many examples of other teams doing the same. Nick Foles beat Tom Brady in a Super Bowl, more often than not the best team wins not the best QB.

This team has to practice and play better than last week or they go nowhere. Back to work...

I never mentioned 2019 or 2020, you did trying to reframe the subject multiple times. My whole point was Fields faced plenty of top tier comp and ranked teams.

Kirk Cousons, one of the more accurate QB's in the league can't "throw WR's open" or "Drop dimes into their bread baskets" ... We all know that's false.

What does Mac do Kirk can't?

The problem is that you haven’t made any case as to why you are making the claims. It’s no different than the criticism Brady received, that he wasn’t athletic, his measureables sucked, and he had a mediocre arm. He would just hold a clipboard. You’re welcome to your opinion but so far Jones has disproven his critics with his performance.

You are wrong, and will be in 5 years too.

Why not just forget about this stupid take?

Also how does one put Trent dilfer and Kirk cousins in the same sentence? Two totally different quarterbacks.

Yup, also:

Mac in a 14 game NFL career has completed 69% of his passes, 3168 yards, 18 TD, 10 INT, 95 rating, 25 sacks.

Dilfer is a career 55% passer, has never thrown above 2860 yards in a season, has never thrown more than 21 TD in a season, has a career YPA of 6.5, career 70 rating and is minus 16 in TD-INT ratio

Yup Dilfer is Mac's ceiling. Totally.

Bill Belichick could win with Kirk Cousins. Trent Dilfer DID win.

His arm strength is a concern. I hope he can improve this over time.

Maybe, but natural arm-strength, like running ability is a crutch a lot of the gifted QBs lean on. Instead of developing touch or skills at reading defenses they can resort to forcing balls in. That stops working in the NFL and you get the Jeff Georges of the world.

Yes it is and I think he will starting this off-season.

Gonna be exciting when he makes that second year jump. Then we will know we got our guy.

I'd argue Mac Jones has already blown through Dilfer's ceiling and is right behind Cousins in less than a full NFL season. To say either of those two (particularly Dilfer) are Jones' ceiling seems anywhere from unreasonably cynical to objectively wrong.
