Game Day Thread Official Post Game Thread- Pats beat the Titans

THIS IS OUR LIVE GAME DAY THREAD:

This is where we gather to follow things on Game Day. Obviously, emotions tend to be high so if anyone gets a little crazy, the use of the “Mute” button is encouraged on anyone who may be annoying to you to control your experience and to allow the moderators to also enjoy the game.

At the same time, please take a deep breath before over-reacting for the sake of making this a pleasant experience for everyone.

I think losing Godchaux might be a "careful what you wish for" situation for a lot of his detractors here. Not that he's all-world, but unless you've got a guy like Donald who's a down by down stud, you really want at least three big bodies to rotate in the IDL, because playing a chunker for 60-70 snaps a game is a quick way to get them gassed or injured. And I don't think Guy is going to be playing more snaps in the years to come, probably less as he gets older, so you need other guys to rotate in with Barmore.

Plus, let's not forget that BB has a track record with defensive players. It's not 100%, but there are plenty of examples of players that come here, start slow, and then get better as they get coached up. I don't think we've seen the best Godchaux could possibly give us, and even with that said I think he's played better than you're giving him credit for. Again, not Donald, or Vea, or anyone like that. But he's a solid rotational DT in a league that is not overflowing with them.
In hindsight, Id have kept A. Butler over him. Much better pass-rusher, just as ok in the run game.

In a more direct response, there isnt much to add, i can only hope he gets better and keeps the D-line rotation stable. I think there are players between Godchaux and Vea or Danold tho, he isnt close to this level

Yep "The NFC is the better conference" is utter BS! The AFC is tough from the top down to about the 12th team or so. The NFC has about 5 legitimate playoff teams and will have seven slots. They have 10 teams with losing records in the NFC. The conference sucks as a whole.
Even as a card carrying Belichickian homer, I stated a few (maybe 6) weeks ago that if Belichick was acquiring players that he simply liked rather than the best players for the team, then RK had the responsibility to move on. I would like to redact that statement and re-swear my undying allegiance to BB. There's a reason he likes certain players - they're good dudes, high character guys. Football is still a human affair and how the players get along, how happy they are, etc. affects their motivation and performance. BB has built not just a very good team, but a a helluva lockerroom as well. Loving this group.
It also makes the grind tolerable. Football is a team sport where often you have to be selfless to help a teammate succeed. This is hard enough in amateur sports, but when millions of dollars are on the table it becomes almost impossible. This team wants to win, and they see BB as the Obi Wan to help them win. I was at tge Cowboys, Browns and Titans games and this team is invested in winning. I have thoroughly enjoyed the ride and feel happy to root for a great group of young men. Bourne has an ability to spread his enthusiasm without it being a “look at me” Rod Tidwell display. He was dancing with the team on the sideline at the end of the game, and stopped immediately when he spotted himself on the scoreboard, and laughed like he was embarrassed. It was nice to see a guy clowning for his teammates but not wanting to be a spectacle.

Adam Butler of the 1 sack and 4 QB hits and 1 TFL and 3 PD? Oh.. He's played 55% of Miami's defensive snaps at 456. 331 of Butler's snaps have been on the Pass-Rush.

Compared to Godchaux who has 38 tackles, 1 sack, 5 QB Hits, 2 TFL, and 1 FF? While taking 57% of the snaps (439). Just 230 of Godchaux's snaps have been on the pass rush.

If Butler was such a better pass-rusher as you claim, wouldn't he have more sacks and QB hits considering he's played more snaps?

Also, they aren't really playing the same position. Butler isn't lining up as a NT where as Godchaux is.

Barmore was leading the DLine in snaps during their 5 game streak, around 45 snaps a game. Yesterday Barmore's snaps went way down to what he was doing the first 6 wks when they went 2-4, 30'ish snaps. Godchaux yesterday leading the DLine in snaps = crappy runD. Simple as that. Go back to Barmore leading the DLine in snaps, he's their best DLineman. Wonder if he's a little dinged up.

But they won so whatever. I think the score would have felt different if JC didn't pick one in the endzone and then also punch out a fumble on another drive. Giving up 270 rushing yards is unbelievably bad, but somehow the D didn't give up points.

He’s been the best skill position pick-up of the offseason, to date. Better than Henry. It’s going to be interesting to see if teams start to regularly shade a safety to his side of the field in man.
i still dont understand why we use him only 50% of snaps best case....dude is our best play maker IMO

Yep I said earlier we were in mostly dime but nickel and TN is a power team that took advantage.

The strategy was so interesting...'Let's let them run all over us. We cannot let Ryan Tannehill beat us at all costs'.

Seems counter-intuitive but whatever. Without the turnovers bailing them out it was questionable at best.
I don’t think we “let them run all over us.” There was an effort to stop it, but the lighter fronts (after the second series) meant more YPC on the ground and choking everything off underneath and intermediate.

Offensive snaps:

Explains why the offense stalled so many times in scoring position. Hunter Henry should be playing more snaps than Agholor. But you can see from the snapcounts how much they keep trying for crappy spread shotgun which gets empty stats and fails to score when needed. Their best style is power running football in 12 personnel. And I'd flip the snaps that Agholor and Bourne get, red zone package should be 12 personnel (2TE) with Bourne and Meyers at WR. Agholor's straight line speed doesn't mean anything in a short red zone area.

I wont be so colourful or descriptive as some posters and certainly more basic but.....

Bourne and Myers are really good recievers
Great to see Jonnu Smith show what he can do , just keep it going. I also noticed he was quick to congratulate other players on making plays.
Dugger still providing some great hits and usually around the ball when it matters
I thought Van Noy and Hightower got locked up and did not get off to try and stop the Titans running touchdown but as another poster said at least one of them was probably held. Anyway it was a big hole to run through.
I thought the run defence had been tightened up from the earlier games but the Titans either did their homework or exposed something. Was it a deliberate tactic of BB ?...who knows , but I have no doubt it will be discussed at their post game briefings
Saw Wade was getting some more snaps
Secondary did not have much to worry about but they did snuff out most of what did come their way.
Mac's feathered pass that hit the ground was followed by the near interception on a pass to Smith. Maybe lucky , but he still kept going and making the plays. He will learn from these.

The Titans still had to be beaten and despite their injuries they were still a handful up until the second half. But one way or another a great team effort saw this through and sets us up for the Bills next.

Forgot to mention but the number of FG's in some games and the red zone offence is maybe something other posters can explain better but does this need some improvements as we get closer to the play offs ?

QBR highest of the season, but:

Not doing very well here but also forgot to mention Nick Folk and his continuing contribution and also Rham , one of his runs was just thunderous , running over people , avoiding tackles and still going forward......yes it was late in the game but its exciting to watch him every time he gets the ball

Agree. A more accurate representation of BBs strategy.

LOL Orlovsky really loves him some Patriots :D

This still amazes me from that 2011 Colts game. How on earth did this happen?

6 wins in a row is fantastic no matter how much things can be nitpicked.

I think there would be more worry if the PatsD didn't have 2 fumble recoveries and an endzone INT to negate 3 different Titan drives.

Here's an interesting stat. What division has the best record in aggregate over the last 5 games???? AFC East 14-6 as NE/Buf are doing well, Miami is coming on and the Jets like a blind squirrel find an acorn every once in a while
AFC E 14-6
AFC N 10-9-1
AFC S 8-12
AFC W11-9
NFC E 10-10
NFC N 6-13-1
NFC S 8-12
NFC W 10-10
It doesn't zero out because of byes...
