The scheduling gods have given the Pats a lot of extra rest/preparation time at the right time

FACK YEAH

we're fans, we can be irrationally exuberant if we want. Pretend I just smashed an empty beer can--scratch that, a FULL beer can--on my forehead.

Roll out that bandwagon, I'm on it.
Bandwagon. Is that the new term for taking the cart to the blue tent after smashing a full beer can on you forehead?

FYP

Only caveat here is that while we have an extra day to prepare for the first Bills game, they'll have an extra three because they're playing on Thanksgiving. So that's more advantage Buffalo that week.

hopefully it gives them a short week and they lose today in part to it. Extra advantage

It's nice that it worked out that way but having a bye this late is never good. Ideally, you want it in the middle of the season, not at the end.
For a rookie QB, RB, and DT who take up such a large percentage of snaps and production, it’s the perfect bye week.

I’m in the boat where I believe they should have two bye weeks for each team over the course of the season. Is really having two less game for two weeks of the season really going to kill anyone. Rest would be good for everyone. From the NFL’s perspective, struggling big money teams might be able to re-start themselves. Star players get healthy. I just think it would be good for everyone. Or they could simply just extend the season another week. I’ve always found it a little surprising I’ve never really heard about any talk of this type of change.

Ok, I stole this from a tweet. But now that the NFL has switched the Pats/Indy game to Saturday night, the Pats have at least one extra day to prepare for or rest before the next four games.

Titans - 10 days between games (Pats last played last Thursday)
Bills - eight days between games (Monday night game)
Indy - 12 days between games (Saturday night game after the bye)
Bills - eight days between games (gained an extra day because the Indy game was moved to Saturday night)

At this time of the year, any extra rest can be huge especially for being healthy and going at full strength going into the playoffs. And since this might be the toughest four game stretch of the season, the extra preparation time is an advantage

Really, the only advantage NE has here is the Titans and second Bills game.

Bills (road) - Buffalo has 10 days rest since they are playing on Thanksgiving

Indy - same amount of rest for both teams with both teams are coming off the bye

Remember. You’re not just playing your conference. You’re playing the league when it’s all said and done. I think he means it an advantage overall to everyone on the team. Not an advantage over any particular team in general

It's not the advantage, it's just the extra day or 3 of rest. Usually the schedule gods are not on our side, but they are in this case.

I'm a believer that injuries are, by far, the biggest factor in a championship run. Late season byes are a blessing to keep your guys healthy, especially with the new 17 game season.

I was happy when I saw the late bye, but your breakdown of all the games surrounding it is a cherry on top. Those are all playoff quality teams. I thought we'd be fighting for a playoff spot at this point, but this could be a factor in getting that #1 seed and the second bye of the season.

It isn’t individual game that makes a biggest difference. It is month worth of extra days between games. It is the opposite of a team in a three week period having a Monday night game followed by a Sunday game followed by a Thursday night game where they have three games in like 11 days. I doesn’t matter that each individual opponent has the same amount of time to prepare for a single game. It is that the team has three games in a week and a half.

True. But, the 17th game hurt us vs Buffalo.
We drew Dallas and lost. They got WFT and won. Could be difference in 1st or 2nd.

I don't get it.

The league added a 17th game this year. We wouldn’t have had to play Dallas if they had kept it at 16. Only play NFC South.
