Kurt Warner Film work on MAc Jones

Warner breaking what Mac is doing so well.

I posted this in another thread but Warner seems to think that Mac is ahead of where Brady was at this point in 2001...

“Some of the tight throws, the way he’s able to manipulate defenses and understand what he’s seeing at this stage in his career, to me, it’s better than a lot of guys in the league, but better than what Tom Brady was at this point in time,” Warner said.

I think it is obvious Mac is ahead of rookie Brady. I feel like Brady wasn't even Brady until 04. In the 04 season he came in clearly bigger and stronger. I remember thinking that his deep ball was actually more accurate when he was physically weaker in 03 lol.

This is great. Warner was also positive on Mac before the regular season.

Just an absolutely phenomenal clip by Kurt Warner. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed watching this as much as I dismiss and laugh at fake expert construction guys who spew wrong football analysis.

I love the breakdown of the Bourne TD. When I first saw that throw I thought "Mac threw it high and Bourne just made an incredible catch." but as you look at it more you see just how impressive this throw is. He puts it not only where only his guy has a chance of getting it, but he also throws it in such a way that when it gets to Bourne he's not going to get obliterated by the safety.

It's one of a few passes by Mac where I think he makes a mistake only to watch it over and see that not only did he not make a mistake he made a brilliant play. His creativity and bravery is very impressive. I've very much enjoyed watching Josh and Hoodie ease the reigns on this thoroughbred. Just don't even think about the race, just sit back and enjoy him run.

I haven't been this excited for the future since... 2001, a Pats Odyssey.

Yep. It's amusing that the "QB School" guy in his latest video about Mac says that Mac was lucky that that wasn't a hospital ball. He's slowly starting to admire Mac but still has to get his digs in.

Jackson Krueger agrees with Warner:

Not how I remember it. Brady put up 3500 yards that year, it was his first year with Branch, and though the defense was dominant and the team got ahead of opponents and didn't need to throw, the Patriots did throw in the tight games and they had an aerial assault: 281, 273, 253, 350, 344. Those were huge games by Brady. All the more impressive because it happened BEFORE the rules were changed to preventing grabbing of the WR within the first 5 yards.

The playoffs were different because of the absurd weather (remember zero degrees temps against the Titans?) but in the Super Bowl, Brady lit it up for 354 yards. That was the 2nd highest yards by a QB in Super Bowl history at the time.

It always rankles me when announcers say the first 3 Super Bowls were won by the Patriots defense and Adam Vinatieri. It's just not true, beyond the first one. But they say it so much that they just repeat it.

I don’t know if Brady was physically weaker in 03, but I don’t think he became the GOAT Brady until 2004. He showed flashes of it in 2003, but whatever it was, he didn’t pull it all together to become otherworldly until at least the Super Bowl that year.

I would say Jones is better than 2001 Brady in a lot of ways, but doubt Jones will ever get close to 2004 and beyond Brady. Probably not in the same stratosphere.

The whole Brady/Mac comparison isn't fair. It's hard to gauge where Brady was at his rookie year because he barely played. If you want to compare stats from when he took over for Bledsoe in year 2 then feel free, IMO there isn't a true comparison until the year is over and how Mac plays from here until early January.

I only used the :D emoji for your post because I figured Kurt Warner was still probably going through therapy of how 2001 Brady robbed him of his "would-be" Dynasty. I have loved the Mac pick since we made it, but I'll hold off any comparisons to Brady for a few years.

No one is comparing 4th string Tom Brady's year 2000 rookie season on the bench with Jones' year 1

That's what we've been doing...

So the ‘low ceiling’ contingent of the National media really annoys me. They contends he has a below average arm and inability to extend plays.

Because of his superior ability to process information he gets through his reads quicker than even some ‘elite’ QB’s. His understanding of the game for his age is as good as anyone I have ever seen (Math degree w/4.0 in 2.5 years while playing colllege sport). He will win multiple SB, not saying he will match Brady, but barring injury a HOF career, that is what this guy who has watched football 63 years sees,
