Bedard: Mac running out of gas?

Then there's Justin Fields who gets criticized a lot - but the truth is he's been quite a bit better than Mac in the last couple of weeks. He seems to have figured things out in Chicago - and he had just as long a college season as Mac did. He's also been sacked more than Mac has.

So while the rookie wall could be a thing, I don't know if we can say that's what it is for sure.

I think more likely a combination of two things - the Pats have stepped up in weight class when it comes to opposing pass defenses (and it doesn't get any easier from here) and there's plenty of tape on Mac and the league now knows how to play against him. It's up to Josh and Mac to adapt to that.
And he is doing that with very sub-coaching in Chicago.

We have to give this rookie class a couple of years to really see who rises to the top. I think Mac has a lot of factors that will make him a solid starter but the other guys have a much higher ceiling just based on talent but it remains to be seen if they can reach that ceiling.

I agree. Fields was really tearing it apart in the last game. The deep throws seemed effortless. With better coaching he can be great.

Mac hasn't showed the wow factor yet..he has shown to be a decent game manager. The mistakes are far too less and I would like to credit josh and Bill for making Mac more effective through their conservative play calling and rock solid defense.

Yet to see what Mac can do when faced with adversity.

I am very interested to see Mac play in the cold/windy weather of NE that is on its way as I type this. I think that is another bar for him to jump over.

He's won 3 games in a row, so he must be out of gas!

Of course it's a concern that he'll be playing a lot more than he's used to, but so far he hasn't hit the wall. Fingers crossed he won't or that it will happen against an anemic opponent.

Meh.

Fields really impressed me Monday night. Im happy with mac but he could end up passing him in the rookie qb pageant

this thread aged well hahahaha

I was waiting for this post to be resurrected

One thing I have learned since my recent foray into pro football fandom: Pro sports writers/fans say things equally stupid to collegiate writers/fans. Bo Nix called Mac a game manager last season prior to Mac/Bama dismantling the barn.
