Nelson Agholor

Bad signing. I understand why Belichick felt they needed speed outside but Agholor is and always will be unreliable.

Well he has speed but he doesn’t seem to know what to do with it. He was a weapon with the Raiders and has disappeared here.

Is that him or other factors?

He was completely unreliable in Philly as well. He has basically had one good year, and overall a really mediocre career, bad signing.

We've got the worst of both worlds with Agholor. Have to deal with his drops, which become crushing given the pressure the offense is under, but our o-line won't allow us to unlock his deep ball skills.

He's on the books for $15m next year but due to the way we structured the deal we only save $5m if we cut him. Bad all the way round.

Did you know the Pats only have 4 drops this year? There are 23 teams that have more. Drops are not this teams issue. Browns have 17 drops.

We need Kenny Britt, Jordan Matthews, Brian Tyms and Michael Floyd back,

You could keep going and fill up a page. lol. I remember back in the day when someone griped about getting some off the trash heap receiver, they were met with....Bill likes him and he knows more than you, he will be an all pro. No days unless we get Jerry Rice here, its a **** move.

He had 48 catches for 896 yards and 8 td's last year averaging 18 yards per catch. Maybe its the offense.

As far as Drops. Not sure that is the issue, as the pats are pretty good there.

So all 3 of those slant passes that Each of our WRs dropped don't count?

I don't believe it... They had 3 drops alone vs Dallas.

I didn't mind signing him but I definitely thought we overpaid. I was just happy to see an NFL receiver on the team this year but he is not a number one guy.

He's not paid like a #1 guy - at all.

  • 1. Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins: $27.3 million
  • 2. Falcons WR Julio Jones: $22 million
  • 3. Chargers WR Keenan Allen: $20 million
  • 4. Cowboys WR Amari Cooper: $20 million
  • 5. Saints WR Michael Thomas: $19.3 million
  • 6. Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill: $18 million
  • 6. Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr.: $18 million
  • 6. Giants WR Kenny Golladay: $18 million
  • 9. Bears WR Allen Robinson: $17.9 million
  • 10. Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett: $17.3 million
Godwin was franchised for $18m.
Evans 16.5, and he's in year 4 of his deal.|

Agholor's the 23rd highest paid WR, and being on the first year of his deal, that's even less than it seems, as there are lots of guys behind him on rookie deals, as well as guys who signed their deals years ago.

To be clear: the Patriots did not pay Agholor #1 WR money at 11/per. And they paid Bourne like a vet WR 3, with 3 years/15 (not the 22.5 originally reported).

Exactly, every WR who is been on the league for some years and have some name will get a good chunk of money. He fits that description.

I say we should have a little patience, with that O-line playing like crap it's been difficult

I didn't necessarily mean we paid him like a number one guy more that we overpaid him in general for who he is as a player and he has to be our number 1. Even still that money on that list is crazy for the those guys. I mean some of them are legitimate number 1's but I don't see Bill ever paying a receiver $20 mill.

What do we even mean by #1 WR? Wouldn't it roughly be the top 32 contracts?

It’s a square peg in a round hole thing. He’s a speed guy who specializes on the deep ball. We have a rookie QB and we are not dialing up deep routes. Hopefully at some point soon they take the training wheels off and let Mac stretch the field a bit. Then we may see some big plays from Agholor.

Drops are subjectively scored, and often very poorly tallied. The Patriots have more than 4 drops this season, and there are posters here who could probably list them from memory.

No. not even remotely close.

First, you have people on their rookie deals - Calvin Ridley, Ja'Maar Chase, Jalen Waddle, AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, Devonte Smith, Justin Jefferson, Terry McLaurin, CeeDee lamb, Courtland Sutton, Deebo, Aiyuk, Jeudy, and on and on and on. none of these guys are getting top-32 money...yet.

Also, you can't go by contracts because of WHEN they were signed. Diggs got 5/72 (14.4/per) from Minnesota in 2018, which seemed like a lot...but what's he worth now? Buffalo is already moving money forward to keep him happy (a la Gilmore) and will likely have to tear up his contract and pay him a lot more with added years to keep him next year. Many years where Brady wasn't the highest paid QB, or not in the top few, were because he had signed a 6-year deal at one point.

Nice breakdown on teh Meyers' called-back TD from the Cowboys game showed that Agholor did his job in clearing out the underneath.

I think it is clear to most that agular is a mediocre wide receiver at best, who struggles to track the ball, can not run the entire route tree and drops passes, especially in pressure situations.

However he is the only wide receiver on this roster that is faster than most of our defensive linemen, and therefore must be in the lineup.

it is a painful necessity that this guy stay on the field.

ps: if people really want to dissect a bad signing, they should be looking at the smith signing!
