Mac Jones & the offense: Signs of improvement?

There was always going to be football after Brady, its just what kind of football it was going to be.

Just curious, which stats show more than others?

Just what kind of football is exactly my point - Good Football. Clearly not the dominance we became accustomed to with the Brady/Belichick combo... but quality football where we will compete.

as for stats, well, go look at Cam Newtons completion percentage last year.

take that stat in a singular context, without any other sort of reference or additional information, and one might think Cam didnt do half bad.

Then take a look at the other statistical indicators, and it paints a different picture.

Oh I agree, completion pct is iffy because not all passes are created equal. Mac is a good indicator of that. lol.

Mac jones's biggest strength i feel is his decisiveness. Doesnt think too long. It also bites him a bit because leaves open guys deep. Hopefully when the game slows down for him he will realize he has more time and hopefully can call and switch plays at the line .
Josh McD is getting trashed a lot but i think josh does realize on what the QB sees to call the play. With brady he had the luxury of changing out of a bad play, with mac he has to match from the sidelines. i am hoping tha improves.

Yeah his throws are protected. He is held back, which means he is throwing quick outs, short over the middle. His average pass depth is 27th in the league, so yeah, I came to that conclusion that his completion pct is higher becuase of that reason. So does anyone else who knows anything about football. Probably a bit aware of the oline issues so wants to get rid of the balll quick. I kinda disagree that he is not being asked a lot. Oline is bad, run game is not consistent at all, WRs drop some easy catches. Penalties, fumbles. He is part of it yes but ideally we should have dominated the run game and let him grow. Here is being asked to throw 40-50 times with sieve of an oline.
As n example, with 2.26 and 1pt lead, we really should be able to run the ball in a 2-3 min offense. He doesnt have to throw those slants resulting in pick six. But he is being asked to because we cant impose at the LOS and run the ball to finish the game.

He can clearly play

Guy throws a back breaking INT. Comes back next play and throws a 75 TD to take the lead back. Game gets tied and goes to OT comes out and probably should have had a GW drive whether it be Agholor not dropping the ball or the refs deciding after being ticky-tack all game not to call a blatant face mask/hands against a WR the ball was going to.


Game was lost because they for some reason are keeping training wheels on Mac with not letting him get a drive with 90 seconds, not trying to push it into FG range having the ball at the dallas 35 with 30 seconds and a 1 timeout and not going for it on 4th & 3 from the 46 in OT.

They need to open up the offense and take the training wheels off.. it is beyond absurd not to go for it on a 4th and 3 and give the ball to the Cowboys ( who they could not stop) in OT...

Jones is not the problem, its the coaching staff, and oh yeah, the stinking o-line, on average they can't pass protect long enough to give mac time. By the time a down field play develops theres a good chance that hes been sacked or running for his life.

run game is not consistent at all

it's consistent when they actually commit to having a run game, the 2 worst games of the season were Bucs (hard to run against that front especially when Mac was picking apart that secondary) and the Saints (down 21-3 in the 2nd half, so had to pass), it's actually been ok when they actually run it. 4 of the games this season they've averaged 120 rushing yards per game.

And it means what? His completion pct could be 80 percent, but if its not scoring points and is turning the ball over, what is that doing? If you are being basically controlled and throwing high pct low risk passes, you are going to have a high pct, you are also not going to score much. This means you average 19 ppg, couple that with 3 more turnovers than td's you get 2-4 QB

good enough for what? to be a contender? because we're not going to one this year. Right now, Mac is ahead of where he should be. We should all be happy with the way he's played so far. Saying his stats are "average" is incredibly dumb if you take into account the context...either that you are being a troll.

He's playing better than what a 5th QB taken in the draft should be...I'll bet you if you compare him to Elway, Manning, Favre, Brees and other QBs at this point in their careers you will see similarities.
