PostGame Thread Official Post Game Thread- Cowboys beat the Pats

Immediate Postgame Reactions
Yep. The Patriots were gaining about 5 ypc and the clock gave them an incentive to run. It would have been a great play for a screen or reverse as well.

I was screaming for play-action and sneak Henry or Jonnu up the seam. But regardless, I wouldn't have necessarily hated 3 runs and a punt (if they didn't get 1st-down yardage on those runs).

My issue isn't the specific play-calls (although that does deserve scrutiny), but rather the formational usage and the seeming complete lack of situational awareness leveraging the value of unpredictability in the form of running/PA (especially at that juncture of the game, in that specific situation).

Idk...if you looked at his coach play calling sheet it probably would have circles in crayon on it.

True but he's sniffing the air and using his tongue to get a feel for the flow. He's a young version of the DC from waterboy. A total animal DC. I personally love it.

Leaving Mills alone on Lamb on the backside was not good

Agreed. But was it a coaching issue or a player issue? Did the Safety not move over the way he should have? Or was it a bad call by S. Belichick? The All-22 might tell us.

Not having the depth at DB is definitely the one coaching issue I have. They only have 3 true CBs on the Roster in Jackson, Jones and Wade. And Wade is currently in the concussion protocol and they've not brought Ross up from the PS. They need to address this.

The Dolphins game really killed this team, if you're 3-3 right now you could even still be positive about the rest of the season but at 2-4 you're basically buried.

2-4 is worse than 3-3, but they're not buried. I do agree that 3-3 has a much brighter hue than 2-4, but ultimately the end-all-be-all for most fans (or so I would expect) is making the postseason, which is far from out of reach. Hell, the division isn't even done yet with two games against Buffalo still in front of them, but division aside, a wild-card berth is not only possible, it's quite likely if they can find a way to win close games.

Of course not. That’s how it goes around here. When times were good, it was “BB is putting the players in the position to succeed!” When they aren’t going as well, he gets off Scot free and it’s all the players on the field (whom he drafted and signed, mind you). Anything to avoid criticizing the Golden god.
I’d like to know when the Lord Bill obsession started. It’s bizarre he’s protected the way he is.

Smith has mostly been used as a blocker. I can't even remember seeing him running a route. I am sure he has, but I cannot remember seeing him.
Not true, Rob.. Smith was used mostly as a receiver because he's been underwhelming as a blocker. Not sure wtf is going on, but he's taken a big step back.

No one should be immune to criticism.

I don’t see this a s a playoff team. I’m ok with that IF it is building toward something great next year.
But it’s tough to see that right now with some of the contracts they hamstrung themselves with. Agholor? Smith? Mills?
Man…I’m hoping at least 2 of those has a decent out in the off-season because you can’t pay that money for the production they are getting.

Add to that the cupboard at LB is bare for next year and safety isn’t looking great either. Hard to see what the master plan is.

Begs the question…any assets which could be traded for picks before the deadline?
To me nothing is sacred outside of Barmore, Mack, and Bourne.

What are you talking about? Bill has been criticized all year...I can think of maybe one poster, DaBruinz, who constantly defends him but that's about it.

ROFLMAO. Mills was hardly the worse player out there. Try Van Noy. Only thing he did right in the game was grabbing the Fumble that Bentley forced.
Mills was personally responsible for two TD’s…so…yeah.

how do you get beat by 4 yards when the ball is at your 1?

Mills has been fine. Same with Judon and Bourne. Agholor and Smith have been complete wastes of money, to date.

Will Asiasi get a shot?

You should read the Cowboy forum and see their thoughts on McCarthy.

Idk if he’s still not 100% but this was not the player we saw a few weeks ago.

Going into the 4th quarter Mac had attempted 13 passes. There is some insane reason why this coaching staff does not trust him. I have no idea what it is. But we aren't winning any game with him attempting 13 passes going into the 4th quarter.
I dont think it has anything to do with trusting him. It has to do with protecting him and getting him up to speed. You may not like it, but they are playing to build Mac, not have him run into a brick wall every game.

I don't see the Pats winning the division. The Bills are too good. The Pats probably could only lose one or two more games the rest of the way to win the division. Don't see that happening.

My point is that football is such a game-to-game, matchup sport. Do I think it's likely they win the division? Not at all. But we've seen runs happen, teams get hot, wacky plays/bounces of the ball, etc, and I wouldn't be shocked if New England found some traction and ended up around 9-10 wins, while Buffalo loses their magic. Would I put money on it? Nope, not for a second. Will I hold out hope they turn things around? Yeah, for sure.

Division aside, I think they have a better than 50% chance of making the postseason as a wild-card. 2-4 looks bad ... 3-3, or 4-2 would feel much better, but ultimately 2-4 is only one or two games away from 3-3/4-2, and most of the league is sitting in the 2-4 to 4-2 bracket, with 11 games left to be played. Don't need to be a mathematician to realize their goal of making the postseason is still very much in front of them.

The most important thing is that this team recovers physically and emotionally in order to avoid a letdown against the Jets. If I was Belichick, I might give them an extra day off and let them recharge. After a tough, emotional loss like this, I think it's better to err on the side of less work, more time to mentally/physically reinvigorate, than run the guys into the ground and come out flat.

A big step back? From where? Reminder: he’s a guy whose best season ever was 450 yards receiving and was never a good blocker. He’s worse now because of expectations. This was a free agent signing with roughly a 1% chance of being a good one. They paid Travis Kelce money for a change of pace tight end who can only be used in a few special packages. If you listened to the criticism about this signing rather than screaming SIX RINGS, you’d know exactly wtf is going on.

Comments:

1.) I didn't like today's scheme in the secondary. Not sure why they were letting Lamb to repeatedly get free releases and to run through the secondary? Did they over commit to the run D? I saw Dugger and Phillips on the edge of the DL for one play at least.

2.) Harris is getting killed out there. He flew home separately last week and still brought it today.

3.) More passes to Jonnu please. Why not make him our 3rd down back? And is J.J. Taylor still hurt?

4.) Run D was finally good today, but no pass rush and poor coverage...just shoot
Me!

Lets see some Shaun Wade... Was miles Bryant out there

That was a bad....really bad answer.
Reminiscent of Kyle Shanahan fearful of what Jimmy might do in the Super Bowl.

Quite a bit of time left on the clock before halftime and SF chose to kneel.
