Patriots Player Departure Gilmore traded to Carolina

Why would you give up a 5th for a player you might lose at the end of this season? No guarantee he resigns with you once he hits FA at the end of this season.
What a ridiculous thing to say - if you’re KC, packers or TB they couldn’t care less about if he is there next year they just want to win this year - what’s the chances of landing a 5th pick anyway

I mean, it is SUPREMELY weird that they couldn't get something for him. But I haven't seen an argument yet for why Bill would turn a trade down for no reason, so I have to believe there were no real offers (or teams couldn't get him to agree to a contract extension). Alternatively, if the trade offer was significantly low (like a conditional 7th), Bill might have valued the reputation hit more of trading a player for peanuts rather than releasing him and letting him choose his destination. Otherwise I'm still stumped.

nobodies going to give something to pay big money to someone who isn't currently playing

I mean why wouldn’t Tampa? They are in win now mode and have stacks of CB injuries.
They're in play but Mahomes, Rogers and Prescott are just as attractive as Brady so the highest bidder of those four have the best chance of landing him I think.

Because he can!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

(or is that MWAH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA? I always get my evil mastermind doing things just for evil laugh wrong)

Breer is now saying it was actually NE asking him to take a further pay cut...

I caught myself, I almost screamed 'motherf*cker' in front of a class of 6th graders when I saw the news.
Don’t sweat it. They have heard it before and know what it means.

Tampa is probably going to have to release and/or trade one of their top players if they want to make room for Gilmore.

That seems to be the most likely answer. The question then becomes the timing: Why now? It would seem if you need the cap space right now, you're looking at an extension or bringing another relatively big name player in. Feels like there's another shoe to drop here.

I am hoping it's for more OL or WR help because that's where we need it the most...maybe Bill thinks our secondary is good enough after the Tampa game and feels the cap space can be used to get help elsewhere.

BB playing chess again where the average guy is playing checkers. He'll make them cut Tommy.

I didn't see this coming. Maybe I shouldn'T be surprised...

This team is going to have so many glaring holes to fill in the off season.

This one is on Belichick. I said all along that once Brady was gone, they should have traded Gilmore last year. They could have gotten possibly a second or even a first round pick for him. I didn’t get how they kept an older player who was taking up the most cap space of any player in a several year rebuild year. Coming off a DPOY season, the Pats would have gotten maximum value for him.

If he's willing to play on a one year deal alot of teams will be in play. Baltimore too maybe?
