Kicking the 56 yard FG vs going for it on 4th and 3

Less than a minute, or what they had on the clock in the Super Bowl back in 2011 when Tom failed to make it to midfield in a dome… yeah, it was a given. #fanboys

You mean when we were down 21-17 and needed a touchdown (not field goal) to win? Yeah same circumstances lol

"Less than a minute" 59 seconds with 2 timeouts left for the GOAT. That's an easy one.

Too many blows to the head over the years for that guy. He’s a maniac.

Sure… easy. The rain only matters when Folk is kicking it, not when Tom is throwing it or Succop is kicking it.

Arians was asked if he was surprised to see Folk out there attempting the kick, he said he saw him drill a 60 yarder through the same goal in warmups pregame. Again, if he makes it the decision is smart, if not Bill sucks at his job. In the least surprising take of the day Bill always sucks at his job according to you… so yesterday was no different.

I saw Shaq hit a 3-pointer in warmups in 2006.

It wasn’t a horrendous decision, but it was a jarring one to anyone watching the game. When your QB has been playing in spread, with no threat of a running game the whole game, and still has a 78% completion rate against a team missing 3/4 of their starting secondary, the percentages seem good, especially with the built-in clock killing bonus.

The main point is. Your kicking off with 59 seconds left to the GOAT who still has 2 timeouts. The odds of him getting into field goal range are pretty friggin good

Yup. Also if Branch and Hernandez make catches instead of two bad drops on that drive - then who knows?

Kinda makes you wonder if he trusts his kicker from 56 in that downpour why Gost didnt get a chance in the 07 SB.

He seems a little woozy
Kontra thinks Bill and the Patriot coaches are using his suggestions from the X’s & O’s thread but I’m confused… lol

So this theoretical drive yesterday is dependent on more than just Tom’s magical powers? Good to know.

haha. listen, I just think Brady's chance of getting into field goal range with 1 min left and 2 timeouts is very very good

I said the same thing about Dallas in week 1 against Tampa. They had a fourth and 6 with about a minute left in the game. They opted for a 48 yard field goal and gave the ball back to Brady. I thought the chances of victory were better by going for it, as analytics tends to undervalue someone like Brady, Mahomes, Manning and their chances in the final minute. The Patriots situation last night was even more clear cut based on risk:reward.

Yeah. That’s what I think. You really nailed that take, John Wayne Gacy.

Yesterday wasn't about "trusting the kicker" but a choice between two lowish-probability ways to stay in the game.

Do we have anyone on offense than can take the football and run 60 yards to the house? Where is our elite YAC ability?

So many tough drives, dinking and dunking there is no margin for error

"Rain" which makes kicking a long field goal that much tougher
So rain only affects Pats kickers? Overall, the net effect of the rain on win-probabilities should mostly cancel.

What do you think Bill would have done if he had Brady and not Mac? Of course he would have gone for it. I mean he had no problem with going for it on 4th and 2 in his own end in that Colts game.

Didn't trust his rookie QB who was playing well up to that point against a depleted secondary - and it bit his team in the ass.
