Boston Globe: "Patriots Need to Protect Mac Jones Before the Developmental Damage is Done"

It doesn't matter how good your WR is if you don't have an OL to give your QB enough time to throw the ball.
Matt Ryan had Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley on the field at the same, but really couldn't do anything with them because the OL was trash!

From what I am hearing here, I wasn't able to watch the game because I live in ATL, the same thing is going on with Jones.

18 QB pressures !! Mac is brave but so many QB hits every week are going to affect anyone. You cannot throw vertical at all if there is no pass protection. Mac had it right in week2. Ignore the idiot Boston media, our own idiot oc, and ignorant fans, his right read with this crappy OLine is always get it out FAST. It's the smart play. Do not hold the ball because idiots think short throws mean poor arm strength, no need to prove morons wrong. It's rather a sign of intellligence and awareness for how bad the OLine is. Mac needs to audible more at the line for WRs for quick slants and other blitz-beating routes, the middle of the field looks open because of how often the defense keeps blitzing him....

Also they are using the tight ends wrong, so classic for this fraud OC. Jonnu should be doing a ton of block and release or chip and release, next to an offensive tackle. Jonnu kills defenses in run after catch, he can make defenses pay for over aggressiveness by having Jonny block and release and take a ton of 5 yard Mac throws into 20 yard passes. Jonnu should be Mac's check-down valve with White hurt.

Why overpay 2 new TEs each making Kelce money if you suspect your oc is going to play spread shotgun no matter what...
Why bring Karras back if you're going to play scrubs Durant/Herron no matter what....
Why spend $150M in free agency but then cheap out on Gilmore over $, making your defense much worse ?
You mean Gilmore, the guy who is still too injured to play? That Gilmore? They guy whose on the wrong side of 30? That Gilmore? Who needs to come back from a major quad injury and prove he can still play? We should have given that guy a huge contract to help the defense in the first 6 games?

The real problem with the D so far has been soft run defense, to be "fair."

Did you know Brady was sacked on 9% of his dropbacks in 2001. It was good for 6th worst in the league that year.

Smaller sample size, but Mac is getting sacked on only 4.8% of his drop backs. I'm guessing that it's a combination of poor line play and Mac not recognizing the protections at the line.

I can't find the stats for QB hits in 2001, but I would be willing to get Brady got hit a lot his first games out there too. I think this will get better as the season goes on.

It's a crappy stat. Mac was hit 11 times but only sacked 3 times. How about track all the QB pressures (18 last game) and QB hits (11). This is how idiot teams messed up Andrew Luck and David Carr and every Jets QB.

9 QB hits week1 (11 hits if counting penalized plays). 11 QB hits week3 and he had to rush 6 times. Our 23 year old rookie QB is already wearing a leg brace. Either change up the OLine, or change up the sh-tty OC, or do both...

I like how you refuse to ask acknowledge football problems and just look at the world like a 5 year old does. I can guess your favorite news channel.

The line sucked yesterday, and honestly I feel a little validated when I thought we should keep and start Cam. You can’t let a rookie QB get beat up and I really don’t want losing to be a possibility for him. Jones should always have been viewed as a long term investment and he should have been developed and put out there once we could protect him and give him something to work with.

Yes. And people would have blamed Cam when it's a lot of factors including bad OLine and bad OC.

pardon my ignorance, but who is tara sullivan?

The offensive line didn't go from talented to not talented overnight.

They're not communicating well, they're playing poorly.

Maybe letting a line coach leave over a flu shot was a poor decision, but talent isn't the problem. They need to play better.

Mac is going to get Andrew Luck'd if they don't fix whatever the problem is with the OL. Not sustainable.

Popovich was clearly the coaching talent. The current OLine guy sucks. And the OLine worked last year with Onwenu at RT. Not with Durant at RT who joined Sept1 or 7th round pick Herron who is not a NFL player but a great guy off the field. Both SUCK as football players.

Lol well I am shocked at which side you're on with this issue.

I mentioned I couldn't find QB pressure stats for 2001. But if your QB is getting sacked 9% of the time, it probably means he's getting pressured A LOT.

You saw how lightning quick Mac was getting the ball out. Mac is still taking a lot of hits. Let's not try to minimize that. Also Weiss wasn't shotgun happy like mcidiot is. How many throws is Mac on pace for compared to a game adjusted Brady rookie season ? Not even close. Mac is getting killed by his oc, the same guy who wrecked Sam Bradford's 2nd season (and maybe wrecked Bradford's career)
