Content Post Idle thoughts - the "we finally won one" edition

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.
To get to 2-2 we're going to need to beat the Saints. We're not beating Brady and the Bucs early in the season when he's on the warpath to show us just what we gave up when BB pushed him out the door.

Overall it was a good win.

Mac Jones is still a rookie. He took what the defense gave him and not much more than that but most importantly he didn't turn over the ball and give a short field for the Jets to work with.

Secondary of course looked very good, forcing those 4 picks. And yet idiots like Nick Wright still insist that 'letting it rip' even when it results in 4 turnovers is the correct way to coach a rookie QB. *SMH*

The whole offense is a work in progress. BB signed some talent in the offseason but due to practice rules, none of them have really had a lot of time to build chemistry together, particularly since half the snaps were given to Cam for the QB competition.

Gotta stay patient with the young kid. The pro game is still coming fast for him. Once things 'slow down' for Mac, he can really start to make progress. For now he's a rookie, keep your expectations in check and enjoy both the UPs and Downs. At least he appears to have legit talent and a good head on his shoulders.

I'll predict right now Mac Jones is gonna have top 2 numbers out of the 5 rookie QBs taken in the 1st round this year. About the only guy I think might do significantly better is Trevor Lawrence. Zach Wilson looks on the verge of meltdown territory if he continues to have bad games like this. And the Jets will have ruined another significant talent with their terrible team building. I mean just look how good Sam Darnold is looking with the Panthers. All it took was a uniform change and a change of scenery away from the armpit that is the NYJ.
Nick Wright can barely tie his shoes in the morning. Anything he says football related should be taken as the opposite of what the right way to do something is.

Secondary is good but would be even better with Gilmore.
Damien Harris is a beast.
Onwenu is a top10 RT.
We have 2 good (under-utilized) TEs and Jacobi Meyers has the talent to be a 1000 yard receiver
BB is still the goat.

Anything else before you keep ignoring the bad OLine, red zone play calling, and run defense ??
You see, you forgot you're not allowed to have ANY negative takes at all. BB can do no wrong, and every Patriot player is above criticism even if they give mediocre to poor performances. Did you forget that N'Keal Harry was above reproach from the fervent BB defenders even after showing nothing and finally being put on PUP after injuring himself in preseason on a meaningless play? Never mind that we could have drafted AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, Mecole Hardman, Deebo, etc. instead.

It's just so bad, I think last count was 18 receivers taken after Harry in his class or the year after who are all better than him. Wasting 1st round picks is just crushing for a franchise, and then multiple years of john carroll Dumb and Dumber bodies in the draft process are basically death for long term sustainability.

Ive only put one poster on ignore, it was because of his signature. Which while amusing became annoying after many months. In your case your just simply a clown.
I also put said poster on ignore. Reading the board is better now for me

I agree with all of this except insofar as it can read as supporting the Wiggy-level (deeply stupid) notion that now is the time in Mac's development where the team ought to push him to "stretch the field." Dumb ideas are easy to find in the sportschat universe, but this one is a real pip.
When I hear Wiggy, knowing that he's a former NYFL player, I know he's just talking crap to stir things up. That isn't my cup of tea.

I poster this last week in my thread and a poster took offense to it saying JT was biased and blaming Mac for the loss lol.

I actually understand why it would bother some. It's full of insight and knowledge and gods knows you don't get that here.
You seem to complain a lot about this site.

That would be great, but there is no way Brady wants Mac to be successful under Belichick.
I think you have that backwards. I'd say there's more of a chance that Bill doesn't want Tom to be successful. Bill's girlfriend gave us a glimpse into that window last year when she crapped on Tom during his SB run.

Relatives and loved ones jump to the defense of people they care about. It's why Tom's dad is as vehement as he is. You can't claim that Bill is being spiteful assuming Linda is speaking for him without also assuming Tom's dad is speaking for Tom as well.

I understand Tom's trainer is not a blood relative, but very close, so you can include him too.

Yea and I'm hardly the only one, that's for sure. It's a great place and probably wouldn't care if I didn't say anything. You'd have to be oblivious to not see a lot of posters complain about the trolling, spamming of threads, whining from Bill or Brady fans. You can't post analysis without fanboys crying. Like all of your post it's old and boring.

I'm not. If I gave that impression it was wrong. I think both are speaking for their own. Unfortunately for Bill, Tom's side has a lot more ammo.

I think both sides have access to media that will get out their message and once again Tom might have the upper hand because of his immediate success.

I also don't see that changing. Bob and Bill made a huge blunder with Tom.

You put down this site and it's posters quite often. Sorry if that bothers you but it's true. You seem to look down your nose at others here, just like you did this time.

I think he has plenty velocity when his footwork and mechanics are right. He is very much like Brady, and perhaps may have a little more velocity that Brady had coming into the league. But Brady mastered his footwork and mechanics and added velocity over the years. He is STILL working on those mechanics and his velocity seems just a good as ever.

Mac, I believe is very much like Brady in that respect. When he uses his legs and hips, his ball zips. Where he lacks the arm strength of a Mahomes or Lance or Wilson is the ability to make those 50 yd cross body throws off his back foot kind of arm strength. That flaw was why he slipped to us at 15. A lot of coaches are enamored by that kind of skill set. But I can certainly live with that if he continues to show he knows how to lead a team and gets better at what this offense needs him to be, and that is NOT throwing the ball across the field 50 yds off his back foot;
Hey Ken disagree with you on a couple of points cuz Mac doesn't remind me of Brady from a throwing perspective at all. In fact he reminds me of *Shudder* PayMeATon Manning. As a catcher Brady's throwing motion is all about getting from point A to point B with no arc. His best throws are posts, crossers, and seam shots where its about hitting a spot before the defender gets there. I agree that he has put in a tremendous amount of work into his footwork and now thru torque and using his legs he can zip it in there with the best of them but in 2001 that was not the case. He still, IMO, had more "zip" on his ball then Mac does currently because of his throwing style.

Manning used to drive me absolutely bat **** crazy throwing things at the tv and screaming pick it! Pick it! PICK IT!!!!!! So many of his passes were these high arcing no power rainbows that I was positive at the NFL level would be intercepted. Yet time and time again I would see a patriot defender in perfect position unable to stop the perfect dime drop just over thier heads that of course the colts receiver had his hands there. I see the same things from Mac that wheel route to White was as perfect a pass as I have seen thrown. So I dont expect to see the Brady offense from Mac and it has nothing to do with arm strength so much as arm style. Flag routes, wheel routes, and seam routes fit his arching anticipation and timing style throws better. That said he does need to hone his footwork and torque the way Brady did cuz there was at least one deep pass to Aghlor? That if it had gotten there .1 second earlier would have been a huge completion instead of a PD. He's still young and improving though so that will come in time

I've never had a bad thing to say about this site. I don't belong to any others but this forum is great. So that statement is false.

I definitely have gone off on a few posters. It happens. There are some terrible posters here, sorry if that bothers you but it's true.

I'm wrong all the time and don't think I'm a savant at all. Just scroll past my post or ignore me it's only football not that serious.

Yes as you astutely noted, the fake expert construction guy bgc puts his nose down on people and lately has become a sore loser whiner around here. It's hilarious seeing him pretend to like Mac but can't help himself with the wrong disses about Mac's arm strength.

He has not dissed Mac’s arm strength. What he wrote makes sense, and if posters would read it objectively, they’d understand what they’re seeing with Jones and why this isn’t some yes/no issue. He has pointed out that Mac can still be a great quarterback with his arm strength; however, it takes additional footwork and anticipation to gain leverage to make some big time throws.

You posted about Joe Montana’s arm strength, which is a similar point. You don’t need to be able to wrist flick the ball from any angle like Rodgers, Mahomes, etc. But if you don’t have that, you need to adapt with lower leg strength, footwork, and you need to be able to quickly find the spacing in the pocket and release, etc.

I don’t think that almost every scout is an idiot with an agenda or that Mac’s lack of big time attempts is just some coincidence or specific instructions from the coach. Nor is it only an o-line issue. There have been documented plays on here where he has protection and a shot downfield.

You can't post analysis without fanboys crying.

Irritating ad hom. Again, I was just pointing out as context that JT hasn't been a fan of Mac's since before the draft (sort of like you). You derided me when I said that JT blamed Mac for the loss, but at 21:21 in that video he said this re: the missed pass to Jacoby: "this one though, this is the play in my opinion that lost him the game"

A fair thing to say would be that Mac had an opportunity with the that failed red zone 3rd down play to win the game and failed to do so. And that's bad. But saying he lost the game with that miss betrays blame and bias. Obviously the Harris fumble was the closest thing to a game losing play.

I get that you liked the treatment that JT's analysis gave Mac vs (say) Lazar's. But don't pretend JT was objective just because you agree with him.

IMO, Mac played well enough in the first game for them to win.

IMO, in the Jets game Mac was ultraconservative and played to avoid losing the game.

IMO, Mac so far has been a below average NFL "game manager" QB and needs to improve a lot to become a franchise QB. But I also believe he has so far outplayed all the other rookie QB's in his class. I think that's indisputable.

I think the unknown is *still* about which rookie QB's -- if any -- will improve to "franchise QB" level. I have no idea how that will turn out, but of course I'm rooting for Mac.

Shut up and play ball.
