I am beyond ecstatic that we have another franchise quarterback in Mac Jones who has shown tonight that he is the real deal. I honestly never thought we wouldn't get that lucky again after Brady left, but it appears that we have.

It's not lightning or luck... it's being able to evaluate college talent, putting good players, coaching and leadership around them.

QB's aren't unicorns. He needs to stay healthy, continue to improve and the team around him does also.

Mac Jones was 14-of-18 for 124 yards against the blitz (sacked once) and 7-of-10 for 71 yards and a TD against pressure. This was the biggest takeaway for me. We know he's accurate from a clean pocket, but we hadn't really seen him perform under pressure and he looked fantastic.

Mac Jones was 14-of-18 for 124 yards against the blitz (sacked once) and 7-of-10 for 71 yards and a TD against pressure. This was the biggest takeaway for me. We know he's accurate from a clean pocket, but we hadn't really seen him perform under pressure and he looked fantastic.

Yeah my benchmark was just looking like an NFL football player. Anything over 58% I would have been happy with and Mac blew past that with room to spare.

Well, it depends what you mean by "better".

In terms of outcome, they were probably a LOT of better performance.,

In terms of "evaluation", it is probably close to the top. The poise, the decision-making, etc. Like, Mac did not dominate because he is a physical beast. He had a good performance because he did all the right things the right way. Made the right reads, adjusted the protection, responded well to adversity, etc. That's more repeatable than a great output based on athleticism or dumb luck.

Mac was great. But honestly I think some Patriots fans have forgotten just how good QBs can be after a year of Cam. Mac's start is way better then Brady's - but you have to adjust for the era. Tyrod Taylor was lighting it up yesterday - and he is not even know as a good thrower..

This is why Brady sticks around - its easier then ever. They protect QBs and receivers way more then the used to. The offense has almost all the advantages. So we should expect good games out of Mac.

The Cam Newton style game where you throw for 155 yards - that just does not happen in the modern era. Every Tom **** and Harry can throw for 300 yards now..

Back to Mac though - What I like most about Mac - is I think he has Brady like willingness to suck it up and take what is there. Rather then forcing the issue for the glory. Most other guys like to throw the yolo passes.. Not Mac - he has no problem throwing to a tight end or making a check down throw. His ego doesn't get in the way...

I don't know I thought it was a decent showing, apparently to some Lawrence throwing for 330 yards on 51 attempts while only completing 55% and also having 3 INTs against a subpar secondary was better

Taylor was also going against a much inferior defense, a defense that didn't have a head coach and DC that were with the Pats for years and have an idea what Pats do on offense.

I 100% agree. Which is why "raw production" and points was not was I was looking for yesterday.

I wanted to see if he could play at this level and he can. The production was fine and it will continue to improve has he matures.

Yup, he’s always had that ability to be accurate on the run. I’ve seen several great rollout throws while he was in Alabama.

Stats: 29-for-39 for 281 yards and one touchdown

Jones didn't win in his NFL debut, but he showed the poise and precision that had many believing he was the most pro-ready quarterback in the class.

Jones was blitzed on nearly half his snaps but acquitted himself well throwing under pressure. Jones went 14-for-18 for 112 yards against the blitz and 14-for-19 for 102 yards when under pressure. He also went 8-for-12 for 89 yards on third down and a conversion rate of 66 percent. Of his 10 incompletions, only four were labeled as inaccurate passes. His 74 percent completion rate is the best mark ever for a rookie quarterback with at least 30 passing attempts in a game.

In short, Jones passed every test Sunday, and fumbles by Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson kept him from leaving with a win.

Yes, Jones has room to improve. The Patriots can and will put more on his plate. They will also keep putting him in situations to succeed.
