I am beyond ecstatic that we have another franchise quarterback in Mac Jones who has shown tonight that he is the real deal. I honestly never thought we wouldn't get that lucky again after Brady left, but it appears that we have.

Well, he had a nice first game, but let's not anoint him Brady 2.0 just yet. I am very excited to watch him grow and develop like everyone else, but I think we need to be prepared for some real stinkers too.

EDIT: I am 100% on Team Mac, just trying to temper my enthusiasm

3rd down clutch and beat the blitz. Accurate.

But he was taking vicious hits all game. The idiot oc repeatedly went to being predictable with the shotgun spread. Even though we have 2 good tight ends. Even though Herron sucks and was subbing for Trent Brown. They should stay in 12 personnel and under-center almost all the time. Team needs a new OC.

Don't think anyone is saying he's going to be as good as Brady.

But in the NFL, if you don't have a good quarterback, you're just flat out ****ed.

I hope so. He looked awesome…so many times he navigated through tough situations. Hung in the pocket. Tremendous accuracy.

The only reservation I have is the plays that “weren’t made.” I’m talking about the gash plays and especially the red zone darts. Red zone is where you see the difference between Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers. One can get you from the 20 to the 20 but then struggles to laser the ball into a tight window to seal the deal.

Does this mean Jones is Alex Smith? Definitely not. Maybe the plays weren’t there. It’s such a small sample size, and why force anything? I’m sure the Patriots didn’t want to take risks in that type of game either.

So, I’m really excited about Mac…but just trying to also acknowledge what the draft critics pointed out about limitations too. I expect they’ll be prove very wrong and Jones will be an excellent pro quarterback. But I need to see some of the more risky, difficult passes first…the ones where it comes down to raw, elite execution and not decision making.

But hey, it’s game 1 of hopefully many.

He reminds me of Tony Romo. Hopefully more clutch.
I didn’t see any Tony Romo in him. I saw a ton of 2001 Tom Brady. That doesn’t mean that he’ll continue to look like him now that defenses have film on him. That doesn’t mean that he’ll wind up improving to 2006+ Tom Brady in the future. It just means that he looked like 2001 Tom Brady today, and if he is able to keep that up we’ll be in good shape.

Edit: @Ice_Ice_Brady’s post above is what I’m talking about with 2001 Brady vs. later. I think the specific comparison with Alex Smith is a little pessimistic, but we’ll see.

It’s one game in a league where passing has never been easier, calm down. Just be cautiously optimistic. 2001 Brady was playing in 2001. And in 2002 went on to lead the league in TD passes. It’s a different world now.

There are many traits and things that we saw tonight that for a QB, you either have or you just don't and you never will. Mac Jones checked off many things on the list for us. Processing speed, recognition, field vision, poise, and accuracy are some of the things that you either have or just don't. No amount of practice will make any difference.

Kid could still be the best QB of his class and also win rookie of the year. Have absolutely zero doubts. He has all the intangibles, poise, anticipation, works hard, super accurate, kills the blitz, brave in the face of hits, throws it to 9 different receivers.

The one, one concern I have is him getting injured. An absolutely horrific sign that despite Trent Brown being hurt and turnstile Herron playing, with 2 good tight ends, the oc still went on-brand with the spread-shotgun, totally abandoned 12 personnel in the second half so that Mac could repeatedly take bad hits.

Keep both tight ends at the line, stop getting fancy trying to look smart putting Hunter Henry out wide.

Not that he will have the same career, but Mac is really impressive and better than at least initial 2001 Brady. Brady averaged like 160 yards per game in 2001. Mac is closer to a 2002 Brady. Problem is they're running a stupid offense right now that reminds me of 2005 and 2006. This team needs a new OC. The Pats offense was rolling in the 1st quarter in 12 personnel then went away from it.

I'll say it. Mac reminds me of Brady. The way he plays. His attitude. The way he carries himself. He even looks like a young brady. I am all in on mac 100 percent. I'm pushing all my chips in. there is no pumping the brakes. I'm stomping on the gas pedal, full speed ahead.
