OT: Did the Pats Consider Trading Brady Instead of Bledsoe After SB 36?

They aren't comparable really.

Foles was a journeyman QB who got hot at the right time. But there was a large sample size showing he wasn't very good. He was QB for my team. He stunk.

Brady had no sample size. He took over and won a SB his first real year starting. The signs were there he was going to be very good. Nothing seemed fluky. Obviously nobody could've imagined he would become the GOAT QB.
Foles at one time was the NFL record holder for best season TD/INT ratio for qualified passers.

To be fair, it works both ways. We are a Ford offside, and coin flip, away from likely winning the SB in 2018.

Yes I do think the Patriots will be SB contenders again in 2023 or 2024. Give Mac time to get adjusted.
Very true, and it really does work both ways in any situation. Patriots could easily be 9-0 in Super Bowls this century too.

I think our real competitive window begins to open in 2022. This year I'm just looking for a competitive team that's fun to watch and can give other teams fits. Last year wasn't quite in that category.

What I mean is his track record proved (Up to SB 52) that he was merely a good QB at best.

I had to go back and research this as I was very young at the time. I'm assuming Bledsoe was as good as gone once Brady was named the starter in the SB. But was there any discussion at all about trading Brady while his value was high? Thus, Bledsoe would remain the starter in 02 and beyond?

For the fan base, was there any animosity at the Pats for: A) Trading Bledsoe and B) Doing it in division? Or, was it pretty unanimous that Brady was the guy moving forward?

Looking back it seems like a silly discussion to even have. But at the time things might've been different.

Also, the fact they traded him in the division tells me they ultimately didn't fear playing Bledsoe twice a year. Crazy to think about.

Peace, bro.

Patriots could be 9-0 in SB's. But could be 0-9 too. It all evens out. Tyree helmet catch sucked. But then you get the Butler interception and Atlanta imploding.

I think 2022 is possible to be competitive. Is Belichick looking to coach at 70 and beyond?

The Butler INT was not a fluke though.

Butler saw the play in practice, diagnosed it on the field and executed. The play happened because he was well-prepared. That's part of football too.

If that INT does not happen, people would be talking about the fluke catch that happened 2 plays earlier.

How often do you see a team get picked off at the goal line with 20 seconds left? Honestly, if that scenario played out 100 times, it likely ends in a Seattle TD 99 times. But...the Tyree catch was one in a million too. A catch, btw, that could've been averted had a certain cornerback done his job.

Go back and re-watch the "Do Your Job" documentary.

You even see the sequence in practice.

I am not saying he is making the INT every time, but he certainly breaks up the play every time. He even beat the pick play. He knew what was coming and acted on it.

It is not anything like the Tyree catch.

Great job of triggering the natives.

Yes but Seattle also had to play their part too. Why did their coaching staff think passing with 20 seconds left made any sense? Carroll was/is a smart coach. You'd think he would override that call.

That's my point. Butler made the play. But he doesn't get the opportunity if Seattle just does what every other team would do. Run!!

The Tyree catch is so fluky that I bet you'll never see it again. But still...you had the best offense in the league only mustering 14 points. And a CB unable to come down with a pick.

And only 20 horrible scramble plays by Mahomes from actually beating Brady in the playoffs ...

And Brady is a moronic interception and head scratching safety away from beating Eli Manning in SB 46. So...

Passing was not a bad decision. The play they ran was. Passing in heavy traffic is very risky.

Play-action, corner pass to a TE or something like that would have been a better call.

Carroll was going to run on 3rd down if is passing play failed. He kept his TO for that very reason and that's why passing on 2nd (or 3rd) down made sense. He did it on 2nd down, because if he ran on 2nd down and failed, he would have had to stop the clock and running on 3rd down would have become VERY risky. So, in my mind, passing on 2nd down was smart.

Brady has 7. Your boy has 1 with 2 taken from him by the Goat.

Long story short, I shouldn't have made this thread. Brady was the consensus starter going forward. The fact the team traded Bledsoe to the Bills makes it clear they didn't think much of his football abilities anymore.
